Hi!

Since the original Unpopular Opinion Thread is locked (it turned into a shit-show reeeaaal fast) , I've gotten permission to remake it.

I've decided to use the original rules for the thread since those were gucci

Edit: I didn't mean to post ic aaaaaaaa

Spoilers: Rules

- Don't be very rude or snarky to others. Remember, everyone has their own personal opinions.

- Disagreeing with someone's opinion is allowed, as long as it's not rude.

- Yo don't namedrop people, even if they're not on this site.

- To avoid causing a mess, refrain from starting an argument at all times!

- If there's something wrong going on in this thread, or if it's going out-of-hand, please PM me so that I can take care of it!

- Vaguing someone is prohibited, and it's connected to the third rule.

- Please do not post more than twice per page, so that it won't cause too much of a mess.

- It's okay if you vent, don't go too all-out on it. This is not the Vent Board.

- Also, please try not to turn this thread into a saltfest.

- Please, no opinions focused on racism, LGBT, politics, religion and the like. These will cause a massive flamewar. Controversial opinions are also not allowed unless taken lightly.

- Don't say stuff like "I don't like X" or "What? I love X!" in a way that's aggressive. This is meant to be a nice thread about sharing your unpopular opinions, not countering someone else's opinion.

-If it's something nsfw, use a spoiler box, or blackout the text  like this

- Don't call this thread out as a "bad idea." If you don't like this thread, please do not post here.

-Failure to comply with these rules will result in a warning, or ban depending on how severely you broke the rules.

Ey yo,  if you see someone breaking the rules, pm me. I love it when ppl do this because I'm a blind bih.

On the topic of AI, I somewhat agree with what Pulcella is saying. AI companies won’t stop because it’s immoral and stealing from artists, and I don’t think that’s what we should be focusing on. We should be focusing on how we can further protect our art because there ARE things we can do, like Pulcella said. We shouldn’t let these bums ruin our hobbies or passions. Also, I think that most people realize that art made by real people and real artists is far better than an image that is created from Frankensteining several other images. It upsets me that artists are actually giving in to these AI Bozos.

v because it’s fun, lol. What I don’t get is people who make it their entire personality.

half Agreeing with painterfight above i like  hollow knight a lot but I absolutely hate the fanbase. their the most inpatient people i have ever seen/meet. they only want to play as there nonexistent girlfriend. Like play something else god damn theres plenty of other indie games out there.

anyhoo. i do not get the appeal of football what so ever like why would I want to watch grown men throw balls at each other.

Trosper on using digital for inktober, part of it is because unfortunately traditional art supplies get can expensive and require some trial & error before finding the right supplies for you. Not everyone wants to drop the money on inking supplies they may or may not use outside of inktober. Restricting the challenge to only traditional ends up pricing out those who don't have access to things like decent fine liners, pen-and-ink, ink brushes etc. Plus intentionally or not, people (in general) asserting inktober should be a traditional-only challenge end up pushing the narrative that digital isn't real art, since writing it off as invalid for the challenge can come off as saying "digital inking is not real inking".

This is coming from someone who does pen-and-ink stuff + prefered to do inktober traditionally. But I think it's important to understand where people are coming from when they're defending doing it digitally

also half agreeing in that a certain group of silksong fans need to calm down and stop harassing people who don't tell them news, i saw people calling the iii half-mention of silksong 'immoral' and that's just absurd

however in some aspects i understand why they are so impatient, silksong is a sequel rather than a dlc that has had two trailers total and complete radio silence in between. most of what they are asking for is even a message saying 'the game is still in progress'

of course, this does not excuse their childish and obsessive behaviour at all. it's honestly getting to the point where i feel the experience of actually playing the game will be dampened when it comes out simply because of the community

Jade-Everstone Im kinda confused on this too because couldn't people just use ballpoint pens? You don't need expensive inking supplies to do the challenge. IDK how someone could afford digital art supplies that cost hundreds to thousands of dollars but couldn't afford spending $6 on a pen and sketchbook if they wanted to give traditional inking a shot. Couldn't someone say the same about needing colouring supplies to do huvember? As a digital and traditional artist I ofc think digital art is real art but traditional inking is completely different from digital inking so I guess I felt like, it removed the challenge aspect of inktober. Because traditional inking is a lot harder than digital inking. Again i don't really care if people did digital art for inktober but yknow if its a traditional art challenge when there's so many october art challenges out there idk why people didn't try stepping out of their comfort zone more to do it

Jade-Everstone

Trosper on one hand I do agree people could use ballpoint pen & paper, but on the other hand there is still a ton of elitisim in the traditional art community surrounding cheaper supplies regardless of context. A lot of beginners when they use cheaper supplies or are asking for help when they're fighting with it are simply told "get better supplies" w/o extra pointers. So it still runs into the same issue of people being gatekept from traditional art even if it's from a "cheap vs expensive" argument vs a "is digital real or not real art" argument. Though thankfully this isn't often brought up with inktober, but it's very often brought up in terms of people starting to learn traditional to the point it still causes people to feel priced out of traditional art as a whole

+I will have to disagree with traditional inking (& by extension other traditional methoods) being harder than digital, as this varies from person to person & having access to undo isn't automatically a factor in making things easier (digital inking for me is far harder than traditional due to the fact I get stuck in constant loops of undo/redos, vs traditional where that isn't a factor + paper resistance makes it easier for me to control my strokes. If inktober is a challenge to get out of my comfort zone it would actually be way more for me challenging to do it fully digital).

I don’t understand why the entire inking thing matters if it’s digital or not. It’s an art challenge, not that deep.

cw: mentions of S/A (in the context of hazbin hotel)

ended up watching hazbin hotel to give it a fair shot since i didnt wanna come off as those ppl who just hate it bc its fun to hate at the moment. i didnt really like it that much in the end but man the potential really is there! its frustrating how poorly managed the storytelling is. i am not some longtime fan who's followed vivziepop or hazbin hotel for years-- tbh i mostly only remember vivziepop from her old tumblr days where she was... kinda fucked up! idk if shes changed regarding that but i didnt really have the most positive opinion of her when i discovered hazbin hotels pilot dropped, but i ended up watching it and going "that was alright" and forgot abt it entirely until it was announced to be picked up by A24

this isnt my unpopular opinion tho, it regards the more general opinions people have abt each episode.

a lot of the ppl critical of HH portrayed episode 4 as like, horrifically tone deaf and offensive with its portrayal of sexual abuse and abuse within the porn industry. i kinda went in expecting everything to be treated like a joke or smth to be titillated by, but i was pleasantly surprised that it was portrayed as uncomfortable and scary to watch, the way its meant to be. it didnt feel like those rape scenes in game of thrones really only thrown in there to shock the audience. im not saying the whole of HH is very delicate with this topic— in a later episode its portrayed as a joke to watch a character be dragged into a sex room against their will. and it doesnt help that theres somebody storyboarding on this show that ships the SA victim with his pimp/abuser, thats gross. there is still PLENTY to criticize hazbin hotel for when it comes to its handling of certain heavy topics. it wants to be an edgy adult comedy show, but also wants to treat certain subjects with the gravity they deserve, and sometimes that gravity ends up being reversed for one-off jokes that make the way episode 4 was handled confusing in retrospect. i guess its still better than that one family guy episode depicting quagmires sister being sexually+physically abused by her boyfriend and him being upset and killing her boyfriend over it, while also being a serial rapist played for laughs.

but in a vacuum the episode was not nearly as bad as ppl made it out to be and it ended up being my least hated episodes of the season lol. and i come from a place of being an SA victim myself. i dont judge anyone else who felt disgusted or offended by the episode at all tho, we all have different ways of reacting and processing this kind of material depicted with the seriousness it deserves. i dont think the poison musical number was making light of the hell angel goes through, like some people say it did. i even felt like i liked the songs in this episode for once, while the rest in the show kind of felt out of nowhere and personally annoying to me. though if i have to be real, i think my enjoyment of the episode overall culminates in the fact it has the least amt of charlie i have to deal with lmao. i cant stand her! anyways im still not a fan of this show personally but i will probably end up tuning in for season 2 anyways just on the off chance the writing team+vivienne somehow gets their shit together and comes up with smth better than what was given to us in season 1

Is anyone else tired of seeing people redesigning the characters from the show? I think the designs are fine. It's hard to tell if people are redesigning for fun or to "fix" the designs. I don't care for Viv or the series, but since I see discourse on the show almost every day in my social media feeds, I wish people could actually criticize the series without being so snobby about it.

^re the hazbin comment

oh my god YES. i commented about being over these videos and saying i can see why ppl r getting sick of ppl doing this on a yt video talking abt one of the various dramas this redesign trend brought up and got some snarky responses about "oh so ur not allowed to critique???" and its like. no bro, its fine to critique, but these redesigns for the sake of showing off how much better urs would be... its like,,, rly arrogant and idc if yours are better, youre still a dick :/ idc if viv sucks, doesnt make u any less of an asshole if u do this just to "fix" her art.

dont have any unique unpop opinion to add, just wanted to +1 on the above comment cus MY GOD its true

C0WGIRL

idk i think redesigning has always been a thing in popular fandom and even outside of that, look to youtube and you’ll find plenty of rewrites and redesigns of media from fans and from people who dislike the media (ie. yandere simulator)

i feel like maybe im seeing different things than other commenters because a lot of what ive seen acknowledges that they do genuinely enjoy concepts of the designs (like charlie being a goat) but dislike the show/execution as a whole . i think its fine to redesign characters from a mega popular show and i think its fine to say you don’t like a design

lezbtron

enjoying a character who is flawed or makes bad actions doesn't automatically make you like them or say you are endorsing their actions, i dunno why but i've seen a spike in people who automatically jump to that conclusion . like bro it really doesn't matter if i like a characters whos a manipulator obviously i don't agree with his actions i just find his reasoning interesting and HIM interesting , use your head

PK_Skeletons

I do not understand the whole fav4fav culture. I would prefer if people favorited my stuff because they genuinely enjoy my content, not because they want to see the number on their very typical character go higher. I think the whole thing is weird and superficial. I am content having less amounts of favorites but the people who do favorite like what I put out instead of just seeing it as a number
