I'm currently reviewing a change in our fandom character ruleset in light of feedback regarding fandom characters. To clarify, our current rules do not disallow upload of fan-characters as long as the canon permits derivative content, the characters are correctly credited, and all fanart is being used with permission. The reason being that up until now I haven't minded this platform being used for fandom RP.
I'm up for changing the site rules if fandom characters are a nuisance, but just wanted to verify since there seems to be some confusion: do people want both canon characters and derivative characters banned, or just canon characters? Where these are defined as the following:
- Canon characters:
- EG: Re-uploading Naruto with no changes made to his design or history (usually includes GIFs and screenshots from the anime or copy pasted paragraphs from the character's wiki page)
- Derivative characters:
- Any characters derivative from canon content - this includes:
- Explicit redesigns (eg. Naruto as a dog or furry)
- Characters that're described as an OC or sona but resemble the canon character in both personality and appearance or cosplay them 24/7
- Personalised playable MCs (eg. customised Kamui/Robin, Frisk, Gudako/Gudao)
- Personalised pet site/game characters (eg. FlightRising dragons, Neopet/Subeta/ChickenSmoothie pets)
- Characters belonging to a canon species (eg. pokemon OCs, LOZ OCs)
- Characters belonging to a canon setting (eg. BNHA/Hogwarts OCs that use the school uniform taken from canon designs)
- This is quite a wide range, so if you have specific thoughts on what you find unacceptable or acceptable for a derivative character that'd also help with gauging the community's opinion for the new ruleset.
- Any characters derivative from canon content - this includes:
I won't be making this a poll; please do post if you have feedback even if you just want to add a +1 to banning one or both of the options.

let people have fun. This is just going to make you lose users and it isn't hurting any of yall. this site has bigger issues to deal with and some people have put MONEY into these ocs. to ban them just bc they are kin designs or other shit makes no sense.
also if you are gonna ban kinnie designs nd shit like that you might as well ban pokemon ocs and mlpverses and anything like that

this whole argument is needless and losing you users. if you really hate kinnies and fan characters just make it that they MUST be private. yeesh
banning characters based off canon characters doesnt hurt anyone. its your own design, it doesnt get anyone in trouble. as long as you credit the creator who the fuck is it hurting?
big -1 to banning most derivative characters
some of what youve described derivative characters as shouldn't even be put in the same category as the others - having an oc set in say, the harry potter universe is very different to having naruto as a dog? even customised mcs can't really be compared to that as they are putting an original and personal spin on the base mc
and banning characters belonging to a fictional race/species as well as characters that are visibly part of a canon setting would wipe a lot of characters off the site as well as fuck with interest in the site as a whole (speaking as someone who does have characters like this(tm), it would turn me off of the site a lot and id consider straight up leaving if it weren't as good as it is in p much every aspect except this ruleset)
for characters made in creators/pet sites i think thats perfectly fine too as again they can come under personalised mcs and characters from pet sites as long as either the game or site/artist/whatever is credited bc these designs can have incredibly original stories and again arent just Naruto But Dog
i dont have as strong opinions on canon charas being uploaded and as i would say -1 bc it does rustle some jimmies a bit im gonna leave it at a no vote bc unless a way to add characters that arent fully uploaded characters to links, etc, is added (maybe an edit to the links system? id love a way to have backstory characters like undefined parents as well as canon charas that link to my fandom ocs in the links) it's rlly the only way we have. as long as the user has permission to upload images then its... Not as bad

Just delete the canon characters but leave the based on characters alone . A lot of people put so much effort into their characters and if you take this away from them this site is going to die. People are fearing this change, don't do that wrong thing
ok banning derivative characters who have thousands of artworks and a lot of effort put into them is fucking stupid like legit the last few people in this thread just speaks what 60% of this userbase is thinking. dont do this admins youre gonna lose a lot of people. just let people Have Fun! dont do a bad oopsie
