Do you think staff should post an update?

Closed! Thank you so much to everyone who helped boost this and get the mods back <3 I don't feel like this thread is needed anymore, so I'm going to lock it. <3

Original thread content:

Hello! I know there's been a lot of concern (especially in this forum) about where all the mods are. A lot of us have tickets that have gone unanswered for months - some over a year - and there hasn't been much of an update from anyone on the toyhouse staff about what's up with that. The last post in the "announcements" forum was 1 year and 2 months ago. I recently decided to email support, and the following is my email and their response. I just wanted to share it with you guys to hopefully answer some questions. I'm tagging admin, lulu, cy, minsu and jaywalk in hopes that they see this thread, so if you have any questions for them regarding this topic, or want to request an actual announcement/update from them, comment below!

My Email:

Hello! It has come to the attention of many toyhou.se users that the mods and creators of the site appear to be almost entirely absent. There is a lot of fear that the site will experience a fatal bug and go down with nobody to fix it. Will we lose all of our characters and art? What about those of use that are paying for subscriptions?

So firstly, I was hoping to find out more about volunteering to be a mod for the site. Personally I have a ton of free time (thanks covid) and plenty of experience as a manager, as well as moderating online groups and forums. If I could donate my time, I would do so gladly.

Secondly, I know toyhouse is a side project for the creators, but is there any way the community could get an update just to know that someone's still alive out there?

Thank you for your time- toyhou.se is my favorite website and I truly want to see it succeed in every way. Hoping to hear back soon. <3

Response:

Hi lohkiit,

Thanks for reaching out, and for offering your time and work! The team's
currently not looking to expand, but will put out a public notice when
we decide to take on mods.

We're still actively fielding tickets and keeping an eye on server
health, and are definitely around to handle any site-breaking bugs or
outages.

With regards to a lack of updates, most of my attention right now is on
improving current code rather than introducing new features. The
codebase hit the size where it's troublesome to make changes without
breaking things, which has made it difficult to respond quickly to
feedback and bugs; I'm currently working on a partial rewrite which will
take awhile but should make it easier to make updates without breaking
the site moving forward.

My secondary priority is expanding the suite of mod tools so that it
takes less time to field tickets, which will hopefully help with the
clogged up ticket desk -- we won't be looking to recruit until after
these tools have been updated.

Unfortunately since neither of these jobs are front-facing it might look
like like radio silence for awhile, but I'm still present and available
for questions, feedback and concerns!

Hope that eases any worries; just let me know if you have any other queries.

*All that being said, please remember to be kind! The staff of this site are wonderful people, and under no circumstances should anyone be rude to them. As they've said many times, this site is a side project.

glad to know the mods are still around! i've been so concerned over the lack of updates.
would be nice to just have a quick public TLDR announcement though, if not to announce anything then just to let people know whats going on

Just for the sake of updates, I sent another email on June 6th as a reply to the one above.

Here's the email I sent. If I get a response, I'll add it to the stuff in the main post.

Thank you so much for your response!

I'm glad to hear you're all still working behind the scenes. That being said, there are several people with tickets that are up to a year old with no responses... and a lot of people are still worried. Your last site announcement was a year and two months ago!

I made a thread here: https://toyhou.se/~forums/14421.help-questions/149069.-mods-dead-an-update- to update people about the situation, and according to the poll, people really want to hear from you guys! I hope you'll consider posting something for the sake of the community, even if it's just a little "hey, hi, this is what's taking us a while!"

Thank you again, and hope to hear from you soon!

I feel a little petty and a bit dumb for not bringing this up earlier but I've had tickets from about a year ago that went untouched. I never thought to bump them. I didn't think to do so. Most of these don't even matter, in my eyes. But god, just a "thanks for letting us know!" or "we will concider this, thank you!"/"We don't think this would be a good thing to add. But thanks for suggesting them!" would have been nice.

I'm not sure if these count but these are off. I did have stuff like bug fixes, asking them to change threads to the right forums (both mine and others), and rule breakers. (Used to report kinsonas/Deku-Dog-types but now they don't feel worth my time to report anymore) Last ticket I got a reply was four months ago for a suggestion to move a thread I made. Then the next one past that was seven (which feels like a bit of a jump to me).

"I...I messed up the poll." was a mistake I made in a poll.

Anything with "Suggestion:" at the start plus "Stuff about the stats feature"  and "Can you put all changes in the changelog?" were suggestions.  Usually, me trying to alert staff about popular suggestions. I used to do that since I really cared and loved the site. I still care, but I'm scared for the site.

"Is this okay to do or no-" was for a thing where someone had a profile to show off stuff like commissions, art trades, gifts, etc they did,  usually not having the character belonged to them. I had no clue if this was allowed and it was odd. So I wanted to ask. A yes or no would have been nice.

Sent in three "deletion request" tickets for old threads. Admin responded and deleted them for me in 4 days.

Not sure if they have different people assigned to different ticket topics but... I still have three tickets that are over a year old??? But those new ones got attention immediately

Update: They finally checked my ticket about unflagged NSFW, so here is a copy-paste of what they said: "Thanks for the update; I'll be marking this case as resolved, but please don't hesiittae to get in touch if you run into any other concerns or issues I can help with ^^"

Fehn

End0scrypt thanks for the update! Glad they got back to you <3
