Respond to the Prompt Above You!

Posted 7 years, 2 months ago (Edited 6 years, 10 months ago) by Gabriel

Nothing better to get those creative juices flowing than a little story prompt, right? Here's how this will go!

  1. Claim a post so you don't get ninja'd
  2. Edit your post and respond in character with 3+ sentences to the prompt
  3. Below your story, suggest a new prompt for the next person!

Your responses should be in the form of a short story or snippet of your character's life! For example:

Prompt: Your character steps in gum
Response: Blake was already having a rotten day, between the test she flunked and the disaster that was school lunch. Now, she thought, she was going to be late to practice because she had to stop and scrape somebody's disgusting chewed bubblegum off the bottom of her brand new track shoes. It wasn't really the worst day ever, but it was one of many that had come in a row, and Blake really needed a break. Etc...

Your response can be as long as you want it, but if you're writing a ton, make sure to leave a prompt for the next person before you embark on your novel!

So, here's your first prompt!

Your character just won a prize! What is it, and how do they react?
(if 24 hours goes by without a response, feel free to suggest a new prompt, or reuse this one!)

Pâmela 🚨 Lucie

Your OC stumbles upon a thing they weren't supposed to see and gets caught! What is their reaction?

"Pâmela?!" The familiar voice spoke a few feet behind the woman, startling her as she stepped away from the semi-closed door. Shit. "What are you doing here? If the Guard sees-"

Pamela shut his loud mouth before Eleak could speak any more. If the people in the room had heard them, the King would have their heads by the evening.

"You won't tell anyone that you saw me here," She squeezed her hand on the Secretary's face as she whispered "and I just might have a spot for you and your sweetheart in my club. Listen to them"

Eleak nodded and approached the door, the voices grew louder with laugher, and the Secretary recognized the King's among them.

"Who are these people with him?" Eleak whispered. There were at least 6 of them with King Adome, all of them with very different accents.

"Gringos, I don't have their names, but they were talking about the Aliance and the king wants in, they talk about of putting the people through Triage," She watched as the color vanished from Eleak's face. Both were still small children when the last Triage happened, but the country still carried its scars "Don't you doubt me now when I say he's wicked. He and all the kings."

"No! No, no, we can't have a Triage. Ross is with child" The secretary stepped away from the former Colonel and the door, the guests still oblious of their peeping "She won't make it with child. What do we do?"

"I should do it, but the Family won't trust me after the Queen pulled my eyeball off." Pâmela took one of her earings and taped in on the side of the door. "So what you will do is play the King. I'll explain later, Celia and I have everything planned, but with a Triage comming we'll have to rush."

The third General rose with fear in his eyes, but Pâmela hoped he would not back out on this, for his wife and child's sake.

Your OC has been accused of a crime a dear friend has committed. How do they plead?

Walter Harvey Caine

I am... the master of getting distracted from the main theme, but here we go

"With all due respect, Your Honour, I find this accusation towards me false and very much unfair," Walter started.

"Walter, this is not a court," the prefect replied. "I just want to know who stole the cookies from the windowsill."

"Well, it wasn't me," Walter responded. "As you know, I had no way of knowing the exact location of the cookies due to, well, not being able to see a damn thing."

Actually, the one who stole the cookies had been Leon, but of course Walter wouldn't just betray his friend. No, he was going to get them both out of trouble, somehow.

"You're the only one who was in the room though. Or did you hear someone else coming to the room or moving there?"

Walter shrugged. "Well, the window was open - I felt the wind -  and I did hear the sound of magpies."

"... that's right, there have been a lot of magpies around here lately," the brown-haired prefect nodded, although more to himself than to Walter - it's not like the other would even notice this gesture anyway.

"Don't you think a more likely culprit was the hungry birds? I didn't hear anyone - or see, for that matter - or feel a human presence in the room. The window was open and the cookies there, so the birds had an easy access to the plate," Walter explained with as convincing tone of voice as he just could muster up.

"So, instead of trying to point fingers at each other, maybe we should just learn from this and keep the windows closed from now on if there is something on the windowsill," he concluded with a shrug. It wasn't the best kind of explanation, but his serious tone of voice had apparently convince the others, as Walter could hear other boys saying things like "He does have a point..." and "A magpie once stole my food when I was eating outside"

Approving sounds started filling the room, and finally the prefect spoke:

"What you say makes sense. Maybe it's just better we drop the subject and try to collectiely learn from this unfortunate situation."

"That's right, exactly," Walter nodded with a smile. "May I go now?"

"Yeah. I see no reason to drag this further. Sorry for doubting you."

Walter exited the room with a smile, and on the hallway he heard Leon calling out his name.

"So, how did it go?" the older boy asked, not a hint of regret or shame in his voice.

"The blame was shifted on magpies," Walter shrugged, and then smirked at Leon: "You probably have to watch your head when you go outside from now on and see magpies around. They might want to take revenge on you."

Your OC is trying to read, but their thoughts start wandering, making reading impossible. What are they thinking of?

lux evangelista teddiebearie

Lux was simply sitting in a chair in her house, reading. Or, well, trying to read. Her thoughts kept wandering to different topics.

What would Lina absolutely hate? Maybe I should set her teddy bear on fire? Wait, that wouldn't work... Poison her cookies? It won't kill her, of course, but at least I might be able to see her pained expression! Oh, that sounds like a wonderful plan!

Actually, what kind of cookies will I give her? What kind of cookies does she normally eat? Who could I ask about that? Oh dear...

Apart from that, what kind of poison should I use? Rat poison is way too obvious, and poisonous mushrooms simply wouldn't do... But that'd still be great to see! Hee, adding that to the list of things I should do to Lina...

And so the book was set aside as Lux continued to plot her devious plans, the book long forgotten.

oops! Dx thanks for pointing that out, ergh

Your OC finds out that a good friend of theirs betrays them and someone they hate offers to help since they have a common goal! If this is too specific and too much time passes, a good friend betraying them is fine.

Leonhard (Leon) Millan Caine

// Stretching definitons and rules is my second name I'm so sorry this probably isn't what you expected //

"After all this time," Leon whimpered, "we have been together, and this is how things turn out?"

He leaned against the wall dramatically, sighing and wailing.

"Is this how it ends? Is this how our brotherly bond is going to be broken? Never in my drems had I expected you would do this to me, Jet!"

Leon assumed the most dramatic expression he could just muster up as he spoke.

"This is betrayal! A crime most foul, you fiend!"

"Leon," Jet started, eyes narrowed but a small hint of a smile on his thin lips. "I just told you I'm going to be in the other football team becase they need one more player. "

"But it's not the same if you aren't in the same team as me."

"Leon."

"Jet."

The two looked at each other in the eyes in complete silence, until both bursted out into a laughter.

"I'm going to beat your team up."

"We'll see about that."

Prompt for the next:

Your OC is walking along an empty road when they see something odd. What is it, and what happens next?

Semeki

Your OC goes to the beach for their very first time. What do they do? How do they spend their time and react in a place theyd never been? Etc.

Caine

Semeki just making sure: did you claim teddy-bear's post? So I know whether to respond to your prompt or wait until someone fills teddy-bear's prompt or something aa....

Semeki

Mark SakuMulti

well since this has been left for so long illt ake the last prompts :'D

"Your OC goes to the beach for their very first time. What do they do? How do they spend their time and react in a place theyd never been"

Mark is, for lack of a better term, exploding with excitement as he comes across the beach. Though common they were, he'd never actually been to one and he had to say, stories and paintings did the sight no justice. At first siting, he'd turned to tell Leif about what he'd found before remembering he was on his own now, and simply shrugging, excited at the fact he'd have something to brag about the next time he saw him.

First thing's first was to hide his bag and clothes before he jumped into the water, happy to be surrounded by so much water. He'd spend hours in the shallows if not for the sun setting shortly after he'd hopped in; even he knew not to stay in the water once the sun set.

While drying and watching the waves roll over the sand, he'd just run his hand over the sand for a while, the strange texture soothing in a way.

Suddenly, an idea hit him as he quickly moved to his bag, digging around until he found an empty container he'd been meaning to throw away somewhere, before pulling it out. Excitedly filling the container with sand, he was over the moon as the weight settled in his hands, the fact he had something to show Leif the wonders of the beach in person making him almost bounce away to find some lodgings as he pulled on his clothes again.

'Someday,' he thought to himself, 'I'd like to bring someone I love here.'

So new prompt!

You have to choose between sacrificing yourself for someone dear to you or killing whoever/whatever was threatening them and dealing with the repercussions of the action (such as those close to the person/thing coming after you/your dear one).

Renne Araa HeroofEnelios

Ooh good one. Claim~!

(Oh boy. With this prompt we're getting into spoiler territory. owo)

The sounds of metal clanging sounded throughout the pitch black forest, even despite the torrential downpour of rain. It was at the very center, in a small open grove where two individuals continued to fight, both having lost track of time at this point. A young woman with hair as blue as the sky, and a masked man whose face was covered in scars. His collosal broadsword completely dwarfed the blade of the young woman, the princess of Fenrir. If anyone watched this from the outside, it would look unfair, but that wasn't quite the case.

"Are you going to surrender?" The man said with unnatural calmness as he blocked a strike from the noble who did her best to press him backwards. She gritted her teeth despite the pain it caused her, and kept going.

"Surrender would mean giving up on my people." She responded with a strong tone, ignoring the pain from the wound in her abdomen as she kept striking. "I cannot, and will not give up my life here. Sorry." Her opponent grunted as her last strike escaped his sword and managed to knick his shoulder, but he refused to back up either. There were many downed trees around the grove and it was too likely he would fall over one.

"Such a strong will. It's a shame you have to die for my people." He replied with a snort while holding his blade up to protect his chest from the thrust that followed his statement. Renne glowered at the man and strode backwards while lowering her weapon to her side.

"You are just a mercenary, yet you speak like a noble." She said in a perplexed voice, earning another snort from the man who was aiming for her life. He momentarily rested his sword against his shoulder and huffed.

"I take my job seriously." The man spoke grimly while bringing his blade back down to protect his chest when he noticed Renne slide her foot sideways. A low sigh escaped her lips and a momentary look of sadness crossed her face before she darted forwards.

"Then I'm sorry to do this." Her opponent held his ground, expecting her to strike again but she unexpectedly thrusted once more, and this time she carried with her movement a stream of ice along the ground that collided with his blade. In an instant, his sword shattered and he was flung backwards. Renne watched as his body settled on the forest floor, and waited for him to move again. When he remained still, the noble sighed sadly and sheathed her sword. She momentarily staggered, feeling weak from blood loss but refused to collapse.

I know this is practically asking for retaliation from that empire, but- Renne turned on her heel and carefully walked out of the grove into the collection of trees and grimaced. I cannot rest. My people are waiting for me to return. I must.

And so she would.

This got unexpectedly long winded. Oops. Oh well. :'D

Prompt: Your character is told that a loved one (or loved ones) is being held hostage.

 Ichis helmsless

here i am to revive this thread

------

"Him? Of all people?"

Mezzo's muzzle scrunched up, a tooth sticking out from under his lip. "Yeah. I know."

Roswen had averted disaster after disaster for as long as Ichis had been around him. He faced down infuriated dragons, ghouls, all manner of creatures over one of the most potent issues of all: money. Being at the head of the Royal Bank meant that he had to be ready for every single instance, he had to keep his cool and his calm and here he was. Held hostage.

Ichis stood, his face cool as he swept through the room toward the chest-of-drawers. Mezzo, waiting in the doorway, watched him uncertainly, his ears flicked toward him. The guard was drumming his fingers anxiously against his arm and that alone was enough to convince Ichis this was serious. It deserved his full attention. For as long as he had been around Roswen, he had been around Mezzo. His drinking buddy, his coworker, a guard who kept it together. He was even calmer in the face of danger than Roswen was, though distinctly less cordial and all about customer service.

"Whoa there," Mezzo said with an astonished laugh as he watched Ichis pull the forearm-long daggers out, spinning them around to test that he was still familiar with their weight. "I didn't tell you so you could go off and dive into danger."

"That's exactly why you told me," Ichis replied frostily. "If you wanted me out of it, you wouldn't have come this far."

Mezzo lifted his shoulder with a wry smile, a you caught me gesture. "We're already on the move to take down the people who think they can do this."

"But?"

"I don't know," Mezzo replied. "I might've been... curious to see if you'd be interested in helping. You're quick, you're small, you can do more than us big bulky guards can." Ichis would bet that what Mezzo was curious about was whether or not he'd want to help. The dog might've had a distaste for liars, but he sure liked skirting around a topic if he could. Hmph.

"Oh, I'm interested," Ichis muttered, hand flexing on the daggers as he stomped toward the door. "Interested to see what kind of idiots I'll be taking out. Come on, dog."

Said dog haphazardly saluted. With an air decidedly lacking in urgency, he followed after Ichis's quick, decisive footsteps.
