How do your character panic?

Posted 2 years, 4 days ago by Feufeu

Okay, let's imagine your character get on a pretty oofy situation and they start to panicking. What do they look like? Are they just standing here, sweating intensely, while having a internal mental breakdown? Or they gonna yell at everyone without any sense, or, in another way, will just act perfectly normal?

It's kinda a weird question but I'm curious lol

Edwin "Bones" Specklehaunt scarymovie

I feel like he'd try to keep his panic internal (pretty much like the This is Fine meme) and after a couple of hours, or maybe minutes, he'd break under the pressure and get sick to his stomach. he might not do anything but freak out for a bit, maybe bring back some bad habits (chewing nails, tapping foot, etc), but the after effects hit him harder than anything.

honestly, he'd probably act like it was the end of the world even in a minor conflict lmfao.

Julian Rivera-Meskill zz0mbunny

As a doctor and a massive rule-breaker, Julian tends to panic inside his head. He tries to stay intact and keep himself together, and I project my same panic/fight or flight response onto him! When he’s panicking, his main goal is for no one to find out, because sharing panic with others makes it worse for him. He has the attitude that if it’s inside his head, it’s less impactful, if that makes sense?

Freyanistic

I feel like Natasha would start wringing her hands together while rambling and moving a lot, she can’t stay still for a second. She’ll even mumble to herself

Jasper Jester-not-Jasper

Panics largely inside of his head, probably gets a weird look on his face but tries to look confident.

Or just yelling at everyone, 0 inbetween

Robi Tribal CaptainRobi

Robi has quite a lack of impulse control, but he has a really hard time to show his feelings. When it comes to like UBER stressful situations; wether he feels like he'd kill too many people or even be in a stressful social situation, he'd like lock up or flee to his haven; wether it be his workshop or in the arms of his brothers, he'd literally hide and go through a mental meltdown for quite a while.

The best way is to either let it pass or, if you happen to be Saiph or Zidane, hug him, stroke his tail or hair until the emotions subside. Autism is NOT tolerant with stress.

 Arkro ultradespairboyz

Arkro is an expert at masking negative emotions that make him seem vulnerable. An important skill to have, when you're both an assassin and a man on the run. So, when one notices the signs of him panicking, it's much worse than they think.

He will simply carry on as usual, hiding his discomfort as to not signal a moment of weakness. He becomes more deliberate in his words and actions as to not draw attention to himself. Maybe he'll even start cracking a couple of jokes as a distraction. If he's at a bar, he'll offer to make drinks for anyone in the vicinity, especially those he fears could be a threat.

But should a situation worsen, he will become slightly more snappy. He may play it off as a joke, but there's no denying he does become more hostile when he fears he's under threat. He would try to find away to leave the situation without being caught or questioned, even if anyone would simply ask him questions for benign reasons like concern. For all he could know, they have some ulterior motive and are planning to kill him. If he is in a position he has to take drastic methods, he won't even hesitate to kill threats if necessary. If he strikes or leaves first, he lives another day.

But if he is unable to do those things, well... If he has access to alcohol, he will start heavy drinking. He'll drink to drown out fear and become "funnier". He's got a lot of stories to tell, unrelated to why he's on the run, namely unhinged ex-boyfriends, so he entertains to distract others and himself. With how much he seems to overshare, he knows people will think of him as an open book and not question too much on what secrets he has. But he can become noticeably shaky, maybe even stutter and hesitate with his words when he is unable to do those two things or is pushed. He becomes increasingly paranoid of the people around him and may even request to become left alone. Perhaps his hostility becomes far more apparent and, even though he loathes being alone with his own thoughts, he may even isolate himself.

Only in the company of only himself, and maybe a bottle or two, does he truly begin to break down. Unless he trusts someone completely, he doesn't want to be seen in such a weakened state. He'll begin sobbing, perhaps even relive the horrific memories of what led him to his current path, especially on a rainy night. It's a genuine trigger of his, and he feels ashamed of it even though it was far outside of his control. Considering how he is, however, he will pretend to be perfectly fine once he's back in the presence of others. It's one of the only ways he feels his safety is guaranteed, after all.

Gray Allard graystreet003

Since he's very in touch with his emotions he wouldn't save anything to himself, and even if he tried to, one could still tell by checking his body language. Inevitably expressive

He's never been agressive and has always stayed as the "nice guy" type, so his responses rarely (not to say never) included anger or an impulse to attack or be agressive in a panic situation.

He would start showing it from the very beginning he feels it, his face quickly molding to the current feeling he's experiencing. It would all be gradual (in the sense of showing and expressing every emotion at every grade of panic he's escalating to) but filled of emotion. Stuff like his breathing quickening or strugling to breathe, shaking, wide open eyes, backing away and even crying would be included as he keeps on being further in the state of panic. Even if he has a positive mindset, his emotions are still too present to calm himself any quicker. His fear can get to be very strong if feeded or encouraged.

But overall, he would express it all on a panic. He would react quickly to the situation, and get altered quickly if there is no time to addapt a solution to avoid the danger

Gray Allard (Post-Mortem Gray) graystreet003

But when it comes to Post-mortem Gray it's a little different.

He is still the man he was deep down, so he will feel things exactly the same as in Pre-Gray (on the previous description), and since he has a traumatic experience now it could even arguably be worse.

He would still have the impulse to act as he used to (and does, depending on the situation), But in Post-Gray, he's abble to mask it more over a grumpy-er or serious looking facade. He would be able to keep on or handle more the situation as long as he feels everything is under control. But once it isn't, Pre-mortem panic behaviour would start showing again.
