This man is my original angst sponge although he's kind of an outlier since most of my OCs tend to have pretty chill backstories. (That's changing as I add more lore though oh god-) He kind of deserves having a bitchy life to some degree since he's not necessarily a good person to be around; he's done a lot pf problematic stuff in his life, like being a jerk to his dying dad and having an extremely toxic friendship with one of his employees. Although to be fair, some of the other shit that's happened to him was out of his control - such as his wife dying in a car accident. Doesn't stop him from being an edgy existential asshole though, in spite of the fact that he's actually getting?? Sort of better when it comes to his emotions?? Still he's not exactly the best to hang around with, even on a good day.
Lets see some characters that just aren't having a good time.
Characters that got screwed over, or they are just nervous wrecks, or something.
Tobi's definitely the most miserable. He got a crappy start in life and only made things worse for himself by picking up a bad attitude toward life and starting to care less about being good to others. He could still turn around but definitely not without help since he's not the kind to try to improve himself. He's much more likely to just try to numb himself and wallow in self-pity without taking action to fix it, even though he probably could seek help if he trusted it would work.
Savini's pretty miserable in certain storylines too since he puts so much pressure on himself and struggles with so much anxiety toward other people from not being accepted by others for his oddities. He relies really heavily on escapism but is just super pessimistic overall and deals with it by making jokes at his own expense. Even his own ventriloquist dummy picks on him fff.
And Manny's miserable because of a monster he's linked with but he deserves it. A selfish and greedy graverobber, really isn't anybody more fitting to get forced into servitude to a beast in a coffin. He'd throw anybody under the bus to get rid of this thing but until then he's stuck with it and dealing with the constant fear that the monster will eventually just get sick of him and eat him.
Elwood is an extremely anxious person. He has extreme social anxiety and is ridiculously paranoid. He spends most of his time pacing, tapping his foot, or surveying the treeline for anything scary. As an elf, he has excellent hearing and vision, but he has trouble controlling his abilities. As a result, he is very easily distracted or startled. He doesn't like to be alone, but is too nervous to be around most people. He doesn't need to sleep often, but when he does try, he is often awakened by nightmares. He carries a secret with him that no one in his team knows about. So yeah, he's just a ball of stress lol
Poor boy has some severe and undiagnosed depression and he seriously needs a hug (and maybe a drink).

Mackie got the short end of the stick in life. One innocent mistake, not him, but by someone else, and his life is pretty much torture, and believe me, if he was able to die he would have killed himself long ago. He'll have to end someone's life just to escape from his own suffering, too. Basically, Mackie's story is one big edgefest. I know this is vague. Just read his bio or something.
Yua was cursed to be miserable thanks to her inherintance; being a host for a being who's ultimate goal is too get her to be the most miserable possible to feed on that. Now, she is in a better place, kinda, sure, but all the pain and trauma and abuse she had to go through since she was just a little child doesn't make it worth it for her. She has to many scars to bare in her mind, but that's something that all my spirit users all share. So, at least she isn't alone in that.
She also belongs to the story The Trial, an edge fest about a group of spirit host who are struggling to live, aim at their goals(like the destruction of the world) and not face their trial, the one that will decide if they rest in peace or if they become a spirit like the being who torture tm.
