For young and curious ianthina, Night Markets are the only avenue--that's socially approved--for them to see the mainland and interact with members of other species. Some come for the wanderlust; some come only to defend the main merchants from bad actors; and some attend to sate their tastes for particular mainland specialties.
For those local to the Markets, similarly, it is often their only chance to see and speak with ianthina. Some are entranced by the things ianthina have for trade; others come to broker a deal for safety for their ships at sea; and some simply wish enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Everyone has their reason to attend the Market.
