✍️ Write based on the line prompt above

Posted 6 years, 9 months ago (Edited 5 years, 4 months ago) by Caine

This game is very similar to Respond to the prompt above you. In this game, however, the prompts are random lines, such as "What do you think you're doing?" and "Do you need help?" instead of questions or scenarios.
Your response should be in the form of short story / flash fiction!

How it works:

  1. Claim your post so you won't get ninja'd! It'd suck to lose all the writing you did just because someone wrote & posted faster than you!
  2. Edit your post and respond to the line given to you. You need to include the line in your story, but otherwise you have free hands to interpret it as you like. The response should be in the form of short story / flash fiction.
  3. At the end of your post, make sure to give the next person a line as well! Make sure the line is not too specific or restricting so the thread won't get stuck.

Rules:

  • Keep it PG13!
  • Use the spoiler function if your post is very long! It'll be easier for others to scroll down if they aren't met with a wall of text
  • Make sure to post IC so people will know which character you're using in the prompt & they can potentially check it out!
  • YOU CAN RESPOND AS MANY TIMES AS YOU LIKE like you don't need to wait for a certain amount of people to reply until you're allowed to.
  • Honestly this thread is so dead that anarchy reigns and if you don't fill your claim it's not the end of the world, as long as you provide a line for the next user

Example:

Line: "What do we have here?"

Reply: "What do we have here?" the man asked with a repulsive smile on his face. He had tied Xavier up while he was unconscious, and was now pointing at him with a supposedly loaded gun - Xavier had no intentions to take a risk and believe the gun was fake. "Not so smart anymore, huh? Looks like foxes aren't all that clever after all!"

"I'm not a fox!" Xavier hissed.

"That should be the least of your concerns right now, given your current situation," the man laughed, but his gun was still pointing at the detective.

Here is a line for the first:

"I'm never going to do that again, I swear!"

Firebolt PolygonZ

“I can’t believe you’ve done this!”

He looked back up in horror, absolutely horrified at what he's done. He didn't mean to... He didn't mean to!

"N-no, please... I can explain-"

"You can explain to him when you meet him again."

Next line: "What... what have you done?"

Lynn the Whisperer v13kai

Spoilers for the game Hollow Knight, also TW for death and wounds (not described in detail, but still).

Pain bloomed behind their mask, thrumming and pounding and sharp. The fog of unconsciousness fell quickly, awareness quickly pouring in. They sat up, hissing as more points of pain were made known to them. They tried to reach into their soul reserve to ease the aches, but they had used all of it already, had used it when...

Their head shot up as they realized what had happened, even when their wounds protested such a quick movement. They had to move, they had to intercept, before..before he was... they needed to protect him!

Footsteps echoed within the halls, and cold dread washed over them like a wave, like they had been standing for far too long in the City of Tears. They looked up to the source of the footsteps, meeting the expressionless mask of their kin. The one who had bested them, who had beaten them down to get to the one person they cared about most. If their kin was back...then..

"What... what have you done?" They demanded weakly, their voice raspy from their earlier shrieks, wavering in denial. But their sibling only looked on, silent and uncaring. The answer was all too clear and their thoughts broke into disarray. 'Please no he is the only one I have left the only one who has cared for me please no no no--!'

Void bubbled in their sockets, a reservoir of grief, before their dam broke and tears poured out. Their vocal chords still managed sound, a pathetic keen that ripped out of them without their permission. The most important person to them was gone now. Taken away for some stupid plan, all for some king who needed pawns, all for gods that didn't care for the ones below them. So stupid and useless and everyone around them was dying for it.

Sadness turned to anger in quick succession, with the murderer so close, who stood and watched them breaking. They forced words out of their strangled throat to yell and blame, to do anything other than focus on the hole in their chest. "No! How could you! This path you take is folly and you sacrificed him for it! My father...my father..."

They mourned.

Next: "You made your bed, now lie in it!"

Psycho Pinkapop

In a heated battle of superiers, the winner gets to live the other day. The espurr huffed, the enemy in front was clearly stronger than her. Psy wielded her arm to the side, while staring at the opponent in her turn.

"Are you sure you want to use this move?" The voice on her head spoken "I mean, it's a status move. It doesn't give you any damage progress" the voice continued. Psy was clearly annoyed "Hush, I have a plan."

She then used Trick Room, the move that makes those who slower became the fast one. But then the pan didn't go as smoothly...as the opponent has a held item Room Service, making themself faster. She just wasted a turn on this one. The sound in her head rang again with a taunting manner "Well...you made your bed, now lie in it!" Psy gulped, now she had to face the harder-ship because of her decision.

Prompt: "Did you like it?"

Aiden salternate

Aiden smiled as he opened up the door and glanced down at the blonde in front of him.

"U-uh, hey, Zinnia," Aiden greeted, maintaining his previous expression.

"Hey! I got your gift!" Zinnia beamed as she held her hands together.

"Look, I-I know it-it really isn't that mmmuch, but..." Aiden paused and bit his lip.

"Did you like it?" He flinched in reaction as she pulled him in for a tight hug.

"I loved it so much. Thank you!" Zinnia squeaked as she squeezed him against her. "You got my favorite flowers! They're so pretty...I have them up in my room." Aiden's lips briefly twitched into a smile as he wrapped his arms around her.

"Glad you love them."

Grim ducclord

Also included Eliza and Sencha

”Alright, are we all set?”

The Fairy Squad is about to face off their rival team for the next part of the trial. It won’t be easy, as their opponents have levelled up quicker than they anticipated. Eliza puts away her wand, tucked under her very mysteriously placed pockets in her dress. “Yes, I’m all ready! What about you Sencha?” She asked. There was no reply.

”Sencha?“ Grim pressed the question, walking towards Sencha’s side of the bed and pulls back the curtain. The ghost pokemon was nowhere to be seen. “Damn it... Did that brat went on his own again?

”Oh don’t be too rough on him Grim! I’m sure he’s just waiting for us downstairs!” said Eliza, trying to assure Grim of her friend’s mischievous antics. She doesn’t even believe her own words, but at times like this, better to hope for something good when it comes to dealing with Sencha.

Grim sighs and shrugs off Eliza’s hand. “Ugh.. Fine,” she grunted.

Suddenly, sounds of things clashing and falling was heard downstairs. Eliza and Grim looked at each other. That did sound good.

They both rushed down to the main hall and finds a couple of the staff running around, seemingly running away from something. From the depths of the training room, comes out a small purple ghost boy wielding a giant sword twice his size. He was laughing maniacally. The ghost saw Eliza and Grim and waved happily to them.

”GUYS LOOK WHAT I GOT!!” Sencha said, waving around his giant sword too big in his hands. Eliza looks horrified and Grim simply looks to one of the staff members with absolute disappointment in her eyes.

"Alright, who gave him a weapon?"

"Well excuuuuse me for not knowing!”

 Gavriil Mikoyanov Ledokol

          Also feature Sidor and Kuzma.

Once again, the MiG-31 android under command of the Russian eastern fleet found himself in an unfamiliar surrounding. Murmansk, the headquarter of the Northern Fleet. In the recent years, military doctrine has shifted to focus in the Arctic area. Thus cooperation in various fields between the Northern and Pacific fleets calls for some units to temporarily relocate for an upcoming joint military exercise.

How should he behave? His superior and Pyotr Velikiy surely tangled into a complicated, yet strange situation. They are not rivals. Until the fourth Orlan ventures anywhere close to the subject of his second eldest brother, that is.

Oh, well. Although he didn't exactly come here as a presentative of his boss, he would keep his lips sealed regarding that topic then…

Besides, he believed he had a partner in crime in this fleet under that regard. Someone who understood perfectly why this information is classified. Kosek, despite coinciding for just two years in the same fleet, was his friend. And after over two decades from the point of transferring, it was heartwarming to see an old friend still in a good shape, considered what terrible tragedy stuck their navy during the 90s.

However, as said, it had been more than two decades. The Kamov had made dozens of friends in his new fleet with ease. Among them was a particular pain in the rear.

          Sidor Sukhoi, aka Su-33.

Their verbal interaction came to a blow almost as soon as the aircraft unit made his appearance in Severomorsk main base. Kosek was also there and soon got caught in the heated exchange even if he came prepared to tackle this trouble, which always arises every time these two unique members of both Sukhoi and Mikoyan i Gurevich clans face one's another. While it was true Gavriil himself was rarely the one contributing aggression to the altercation, he never backed down either.

“Bold of you to show your face here,” the MiG's blue eyes rolled at such childish taunting. For one, the brown-haired fighter jet wasn't the commander of the entire base. Second, without the order from the human commander, he had no business flying across Siberia all the way to near the border with Norway, just to 'show his face and irritate the Sukhoi' as he was being accused here.

What a shame. He always got on well with the Sukhoi clan. Even the younger brother of this unnecessarily territorial Su-33.

“Chilo. NO.” A firm voice from the least aggressive of trio intervened. The shortest figure of blond-haired Kamov wiggled to get out of a protective arm slung over his shoulders. By their responsibility, Sidor would guard the slower helicopter unit in combat. That shouldn't include 'his own war' with the MiG clan, though!

Well, well. He might not want to fight with the 'local' jet to death, but adding some spice would still be fun.

“Huh. Look at you.” Gavriil gestured toward the two. “Looks almost like a married couple. If it wasn't so clear androids like us couldn't comprehend romance… tsk, tsk.”

That did the trick. And super quick. As Sidor almost launched himself for the older MiG's throat, a struggle ensued. With the poor Kamov trying to act as a feeble wall between them.

“FOR THE LOVE OF- GAVRIK!!!” Oh yeah. Admitted, he felt terrible for his former fleetmate. The frame with uniform dominated by a neutral hue stepped back to distant himself from the livid 'bright blue monster'.

“Sorry, Kosek” his facial expression displayed anything but remorse, still.

“If the 'married couple' clause alone can disturb you this much. Then, that means you're admitting you're not happy being viewed that way with Kosek.”

Still fuming, Sidor bit the bait. Probably too eagerly.

“So what? I prefer to know where my buddy is! And it's none of your business to have Kosek to yourself!” Shouted the agitated Sukhoi.

“We're in the tight security inside a base now. Kosek doesn't need you to watch over him.” Gavriil's tone was stiff. “Unless you're telling me there's a security loophole here?”

Gritting his artificial teeth, the allegation was rejected immediately. “Of course NOT!”

“Then tell me why you feel the need to cling to Kosek all the time.” When it did materialize, the verbal punch from MiG unit was nothing short of brutal, “Being buddies during the middle of carrier task force is one thing, it still doesn't mean you own him.”

Sidor's inorganic brain told him to formulate a comeback, to counter the question likely fueled by envy from his nemesis. None came to him.

“Kosek?” Finally he searched for assistance from the buddy he trusted with his entire existence. Yet, the calmer Kamov didn't offer what the Sukhoi hoped for. Instead, in a whisper, “If possible, I'd like some alone time with Gavrik, please.”

“What? WHY!!!” It was a full-blown shout at the longest-serving unit presented. No, the helicopter unit wasn't ready to allow his deep buried secret to resurface yet. Not in the presence of his old friend with Sidor still believed the relationship between them in the Northern Fleet is the strongest. To realize the MiG-31 he always regarded as rival knew something he didn't all along would shatter the Sukhoi when he grasped the truth.

“Let's say… I got to know Kosek prior 1998. And there are stuffs we want to discuss as old friends.” Gavriil's words were harsh, but Kosek was grateful he kept the fleet name in secret.

Prior to 1998… so that meant they knew each other even before he began his deployment in the navy. That revelation changed the Su-33's body language right away, with no way to escape the sharp observation of his buddy's hazel lenses, though no word uttered in response yet which seemingly a result from over-processing state inside the carrier-based fighter jet's system.

“What Gavrik said is right. I met him before you came here.” As gentle as Kosek attempted, the reality he discovered was still too much for the Sukhoi android.

“Well, excuuuse me for not knowing!”

It was then that Sidor's passive-aggressive nature came to surface. Neither Kosek nor Gavriil were surprised, as they watched those legs stomped the ground, carrying the assuming 'losing' side away. From behind, two ex-colleagues from 1989 to January 1992 would have let out a noisy sigh if they were able to do it like humans.

The hand under black glove from the slightly taller body placed on that shoulder vacated by the arm in white and blue telnyachka shirt minutes ago.

“If finding out we met before his deployment pisses him off this bad, I sure won't look forward to the day he hears you originally served in the Pacific Fleet. It's going to be the hardest slap in his face. That he, born in the Far East, is never even a part of PF himself.”

Next:: "What a surprise. That's perhaps the best outcome from a mistake."

Philomena salternate

Philomena gazed around, awkwardly tapping her fingers on the table. Understandably, she felt nervous about this Q&A; she rarely talked to her fanbase as a whole. However, she thought, this could be a great opportunity to learn about her peers! All she needs to do was sit, smile, and answer questions.

Her breathing got heavier as the barrage of questions bombarded her. All of the cameras pointed to her, all of the beady eyes focused in on her. She fumbled on her words more frequently as she continued to panic. She may be getting fueled by the questions, but her jumbled sentences began to get more confusing.

"Okay, last—last question! You, in the back in the red shirt!" Philomena called out, pointing in the crowd.

"What do you think about your fanbase, Mrs. Cruz?" She watched everyone turn to her. She realized that she forgot what she was planning to say. Philomena immediately rushed to think up of a new line to say. The only thing she could muster to say was a,

"I...I love you all! I would love to continue supporting you all, and I appreciate all the support you have given me!"

The last moments that happened was a blur. Philomena walked up to the mirror and let out a deep exhale.

"What a surprise. That's perhaps the best outcome from a mistake," Philomena told herself with a nervous chuckle. She glanced at the clock.

"It was only an hour! Ooh, boy, that was exhilarating! I need to prepare more next time..."

Paschal 12halos

"Implying something?!" Paschal scoffs, keeping his bravado up despite being corned by some very strong--and very angry, men who didn't take so kindly to being made the fool in his last performance. He keeps backing up, putting his hands up in surrender as his back hits the wall of the alley behind him. "I assure you, kind gentlemen, I would never imply--" He's sent to the ground with a single punch to the jaw before he can finish his defense. They seem to be satisfied with him shutting up, at least, and don't take the beating any further, instead grumbling off somewhere together, satisfied in seeing him hit the ground so hard. Paschal slowly sits up, bringing a hand to his cheek. God, that hurts. The world is still spinning, his hat fell off somewhere, and the other side of his face is covered in mud from the ground...fantastic.

Oh well, could've been worse, he supposes. At least he can get on with his night now!

SpookeriSpook

'God...I'm starving.' Evan mumbled to himself. The island he had been left on had only a bit of food that was accessible and he had no clue of how to properly catch and cook fish of which there was plenty. He was however very glad he had left his snakes and other pets at home, with them they would've all been hungry and that was something Evan would hate to see. 'Stupid teachers always forgetting im around' He said searching through his bag. There was only a notebook, a survival guide with drawings of snakes covering the pages,A pencil with many bite marks, and a small half eaten granola bar. ' Well..I guess this can work until I find something else' it only took him one bite to finish it however it gave him the energy (and some how the courage) to see what else he could find on the island. He stuffed all his things back into his bag and began to walk further on into the islands small rainforest. 'Thinking about it..This is actually a good thing! I mean I might die alone on an island...But at least I get to see some frogs! Yeah There's sure to be frogs here! ' Evan chucked for a while and stopped ' 45 minutes alone and im already talking to myself...great..'
