There were many things -- at least in Maribelle's paranoia-addled mind -- that validated her for being the victim of such violence. Even as young as she was, she was no stranger to peril, to death, to cruelty. No matter how she tried to reassure herself that it was all over, she found herself in a funk, and then in a panic. The difference between then and now was that now her thoughts were justified.
So, there they were. Hermit and hermit.
The cabin was warm, the fire in the hearth lit. She rose from her seat when the unlocked door opened, and when it was revealed what was apparently going to happen, the young woman felt that anxiety flare up. This was a dream, just another nightmare, and in a second, she would wake up fine in the same chair she previously sat in. Instinctively, nevertheless, she grasped the dagger she always kept strapped to her. She eyed Baufore, wary of each movement, of the lash of his tail, the glint of his claws and horns.
"..Just go." she said after a while, "I'm dead already, the world won't care to know of your mercy... Is-- Is this from Fuchs? From Laojin, somehow? I don't want to go back." Alas, she was so unaware that Laojin fallen apart not long after her disappearance. The soldiers probably all thought she was dead, too, anyhow. A pit in her stomach formed just thinking about them, though. She couldn't go back. What would happen if she went back?
"You-- You can take all of my money." Not that she had much to offer. "Or take my books. I don't have anything else to give. Please just don't kill me, or take me back. I can't go back."
Maribelle stopped, second-guessing. "My books are expensive." she then added reluctantly, anxiously, "I need them for school. I know I'm not a proper student, but sir, I need school." As far as she was concerned, taking them would be close enough to murder. She would have to save up to repurchase them. Alas, she flip-flopped, feeling sick to her stomach. "You can... You can just leave with my money, or with my books if you'd prefer. I--"
Then, there was rage. It cut her off, a fire rising in her chest, her hands shaking. Then, she threw the dagger at -- or in the direction of, rather -- the Rian.
"I've tried so fucking hard to get here!" she shouted, "All of you are the same! Why can't all of you just leave me alone? I can't give you anything anymore!"
