I am not the most knowledgeable on this since I have only been on TH only a bit over a year and only active a bit before that, so take what I say with some salt. (But going to reply because sometimes it seems a bit quiet here on the advice aspects.)

But honestly, I would leave them a final message, saying if a soon hard deadline for sketch and final phase of the artwork remaining is not made, that the trade will be void since they did not hold up their end of the deal. I'm also fairly sure that 2 years is well beyond a reasonable wait time; I usually hear a full year is about the absolute maximum for what can be expected, and that that year length.

But honestly? I also think it would be extremely valid to document all of your convos (in case of future troubles) and then just cancel the trade. Maybe send the firat custom back if that feels right and possible.

Basically, one of the things I learned the hard way from situations like yours is that some people do not handle communication well when you're essentially acting as a client (even if for a trade). I also can say when I asked others about how to handle such things on TH, I pretty immediately got unanimous responses of "never send the character until the full art is presented". (I also personally have been burned several times on this site by not doing as recommendeda and sending the characters early as a sign of good will.)

But essentially, you two made a deal, and this deal has not been honored in its full capacity. If someone was buying the character and only paid half, it would be within your rights to not send it, so a trade can be viewed as such too. Most situations where exceptions would be made are imho for artists who communicate well.

TLDR: This isn't really good communication or honoring the original deal. I think it is within your full rights to back out given the excessive time frame and lack of contact.

Nozoki   I fully understand your concerns since there are plenty of people who actively disobey that rule. I have a suggestion but it is worth noting this only applies if the Tent folder is just called that and ambiguously placed. Like if it's under the sale/trade folder or has a description saying they are UFO, then this doesn't apply.

Personally, I would wait a few more days and see if they reply, because I could in theory see a "Tent" folder being along the lines of "might give away, might keep", if the user is using terms in a nonstandard way. That being said, your concerns are totally valid; I just could also see someone labeling differently or even making a mistake in the mass character manager that cause this. So maybe wait until its been 5-7 days since the first mail was sent, and send a follow up mail and go from there?

Unfortunately it is difficult because I have gotten the impression on TH that not everyone is against trading gifted characters they made, so I would hope it is a misunderstanding... That being said, definitely a concern and good to monitor since them having several freebies there is a biy worrying.

Nozoki - from what i’ve seen (and my personal opinion) tent = undecided, as it’s short for tentative. as the user above said, if it’s in a UFO or sales folder and is marked as such, then you should keep an eye out. otherwise, it most likely means they don’t know what they’re going to do with the character yet, and would potentially look at offers or anything similar. 

It's generally in poor taste to trade/sell a character you got for free.

Starloop that sounds fishy. Not necessarily scammy but definitely odd I’d message again and try to see what’s going on. But be polite because something may genuinely be going on irl for them
