General Thread for PSAs

Posted 8 years, 5 days ago (Edited 5 years, 6 months ago) by Vespisia

Hello!

8/9: New PSA added.

5/14: 2 new PSAs added.

4/8: New PSA posted and additional information on Squidribs added to relevant PSA.

It was suggested that there should perhaps be a general thread for PSAs which is a fine idea. A place that links to other PSAs and keep things organized.
You can link your threads/PSAs/etc, and I'll add them to the posts. :D
Please Note: I can only accept public PSAs. Anon PSAs are too much of a risk to accept, as they can be open to slander.

Things That Count for PSAs!
-Scams
-Illegally chargebacked (you did a commission, but person claims you never did, for instance)
-Being shifty on doing owed things (taking months on an icon for example, lack of contact or updates, etc)
-Tracing and profiting off of it...
-Etc...

Things That Don't Count!
-Someone has better art than you
-Rude behavior
-Subjective issues
-Dog ate your homework

Obviously, this is just the basic frame work. Each case is different. For instance, someone could go around harassing artists for art and customs, or for people to give up their adopts and whatnot, and that could almost certainly be considered for a PSA...

Of course, it would be great if no more PSAs occur, but in the case they do, I support people posting them because they keep the community safe and will link to them in this general thread. owo/

There'll be two posts, one for PSAs and one for resolved cases! ^^

January

If an artist I commissioned almost a year ago has stopped being active on all social media that I'm aware of and has not responded to notes for over two months and still owes me 270 USD's worth of a custom design commission, how long should I give them before writing up a PSA. It's been about four months since they last contacted me and they have not been responding to any recent notes for the past four months approx. Edit: (I'll need to hit up the history to really nail down how long, but their last response was in January and I THINK I saw them read a note in March, but now it's been marked unread so...)

I have a question, I have had issues w/ one of my characters being stolen on google plus and amino. They keep using different user names so i cant nail it down to one person, but would it be appropriate to make a post here so at least people know if they see the char being sold it is a scam? I've had a few ppl approach me about someone trying to sell the char and I've been accused of stealing the char by one of the people who was scammed so it's definitely something I'd like awareness of. They are stealing it directly from the original artist's da so I'm sure some of thier other adopts have been stolen as well.

There's an artist that took a bunch of custom point commissions and pretty much ran. Now see, their art style was gorgeous, they delivered on some of their customs and even refunded a few peeps who've been made to wait for way too long. Birb was pretty much asking for a refund when they suddenly deactivated on DA.

A month ago, birb discovered their alternate account. Apparently, they were active on that one. The art style was the same, was definitely them. So, birb took some screen to at least prove that they were the person, and then as a birb-brain, confronted them without taking screenshots of everything. Birb got busy offline, and without their notice, now that original account's stuff is gone...

To be honestly, birb just doesn't know how to go about these things. What should the next step be?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice as to the steps I should take regarding a custom that’s been overdue for three years.

I placed an order during December of 2015 and since then the artist in question has near abandoned their DA, but posted a sketch in January of 2018 withthe caption that they intended to work on the customs they had due. Since then, I haven’t seen anything, and my note asking them for a refund or about the status of the custom has gone unread. I know about some of their other accounts, but I’m wondering if it would be okay to ask a friend of the artist the best way to contact them? The custom was only for 10USD so I’m hesitant to make such a big deal about it but at the same time I really don’t think this is acceptable. Let me know/ping me with any advice. Thanks!

Seeking advice here. I normally don't like making PSAs, naming names, or asking for opinions on stuff like this but this is a major emergency for me.

Once I did an art trade with someone...anddddd it's been almost two years and they never did their part. And they never notice my notes so...uh. What should I do? (I might gather up info to see if they scammed other people and stuff and make a psa for DA (the site where it happened))

PaperTsubaki | if you haven't responded to the artist yet, I'd say when you do so, provide screenshots of what your original order was. Say that this isn't exactly what you asked, and PAID, for. Ask if they can clean it up, or redo it, because unless they said in their ToS that they won't send WIPs or refuse to fix completed orders ( the latter of which is kind of unethical if they won't offer WIPs ), they should be willing to compromise. If not, I'd say it's worth trying to reach out to other people who have commissioned them for any other negative experiences, or put up a beware that this person isn't really willing to take responsibility for things they've agreed to. No matter how much you decide to raise your prices, you made a deal on the initial price, and the customer should get what they paid for at that time.

edit to your edit -- if they haven't responded to you asking for changes, message again and say if you don't hear back within a reasonable time, you'll be taking further action.

PaperTsubaki that's absolutely unacceptable. I would 100% send refs of the conversation over to them and if they are unwilling to alter to an acceptable quality I would ask for a refund with the paypal fees paid for on their end. That is NOT okay in any way whatsoever - it is in no way your responsibility or problem if they upped their prices afterwards and they should be putting priority not in who paid higher after the fact but in what order they took. If they aren't doing that they need to be communicating.
Whether or not there were TOS they should have been communicating. While there isn't an obligation to send a wip if this isn't a sketch and was supposed to be a rendered piece and their reason that it wasn't was 'well I raised my price' that is in no way acceptable nor should they be doing business that way. Because they took so long they were able to raise their prices. That is great but it isn't your problem. If your commission is so low priority because it cost so little then they need to refund you rather than give you low effort work because if they think that the work they are doing is worth more now that doesn't necessarily mean you paid for less quality work or would have paid that much more for the work.
These situations can get rough when you see others having good experiences but the thing is it needs to be called out if they don't decide to fix the situation because it is a red flag. Ontop of that, you may not be the only person who has had bad experiences. The fact that they were telling you it was done for months is really not okay and the fact that the quality is clearly so quickly done - you can tell how rushed the work is just looking at it. Make sure you do have all the screenshots of every part of this - including payment and if you can earlier prices and conversations.

Continued from the last thing birb posted about. More evidence of their identity has just recently been collected. Still, they took down that original gacha and their old account in inactive. X number of points is whatever, and they don't even have any art requests or some such up anymore...is this still worth pursuing? Should birb drop this matter, or put up a small PSA just in case they open up commissions later? The day of confronting them first (and the day before their subsequent denial) one of their friends followed birb on DA and added requested friendship on Discord, would this be a good time to actually see what's up with that?

Birb's been wondering about this, but feels like just dropping the matter is just as likely an option to follow up on.

If you haven't, send a ticket in to the mods on DA about their scam.  I would post the psa, but I would do it in first person as it's difficult to take you seriously when you're posting like this.  Keep things concise and in chronological order along with your evidence and you should be alright.

Don't try to use this new person as an informant as that is in bad taste and they have nothing to do with the matter.
