Update (July 14): CLOSED | If you'd like to receive writing from me, you can check out my Low Effort Trades thread.
I want to get back into writing, so I'm opening up freebies to see if any characters/prompts might tickle my muse. These freebies will be around 100 to 300 words only. If you'd like me to write more, I do consider trade offers, but they are currently closed. I also do writing commissions with a rate of $1CAD/100 words; however, they are currently closed as well.
If you'd like to give me a tip, you may do so with my ko-fi. I also accept tips in the form of content for any of my OCs.
- Not FCFS. I will not write for everyone.
- I will work with up to two character(s) maximum.
- I'm open to writing characters/relationships of any sexuality.
- Fan characters / Canon x OC is okay.
- No RPF (Real People Fiction). I'd also prefer not to work with sonas, sorry.
- No NSFW; they're reserved for trades/commissions only.
- Please have the personality of your character(s) listed somewhere, whether on their profiles or in your request form.
- Please actually link to the character(s) you'd like written. I will not go through your account to look for them.
- My strong suit is fluff/romance; however, I am open to writing other genres with the exception of horror, suspense, and/or thriller.
- These freebies are short stories, meaning I will only work with characters that already have some form of development. I do not offer biographies.
- Freebies will be posted as a reply to this thread and inside a spoiler tab.
- You may upload the ficlet to your character(s)' Literatures and/or off-site so long as proper credit to me is given.
- You're more than welcome to request again if you wish.
Samples of my writing for other people of their OCs can be found here. For convenience, excerpts of those stories can be found in the following spoiler tabs. For more samples of my writing, feel free to look through my writing tag (though be aware that they're primarily reader-inserts).
Green, wide eyes stare at the small, flickering flame on the table in front of her. A simple candle. The power had gone out due to the heavy storm raging outside, and Nuria couldn’t remember why they decided to use candlelight when there should have been other alternatives. Not that it particularly matters since it’s such a tiny little flame and there’s nothing to worry about. Or so Nuria tries to tell herself.
A flame. A spark.
In the quiet room, the young woman’s thoughts wander back to a memory that seems so distant in a sense, but one still very haunting. It lingers in the corners of her mind, and guilt settles deep in the pit of her stomach. Her memories always start out bittersweet. Yes, there were difficulties she faced as a child, but she had a family who loved and cared for her.
…Had.
Nuria’s heart lurches in her chest, and she feels sick. She ignores the beating rain against the window, something she usually enjoys, and instead merely focuses on the flame that mockingly dances in front of her. In her mind’s eye, she can see the hot colours of red, orange, and yellow, spread and grow. They fill her entire vision and consumes everything.
Tentatively, the knight-in-training guides her free hand to the top of Alrick’s head. Her hand lingers there for a moment as her gaze moves back towards the prince’s face to see if he disapproves. Alrick remains still, waiting for her to continue. Exhaling slowly, Lilly lets her fingers thread through the soft locks of her liege. She admires how his hair feels as she runs her fingers through them in a slow and rhythmic fashion while taking in the small changes in the man’s expression. His muscles relax the longer she continues, and his breathing even starts to match her pace.
“Lilly…” Alrick breathes out the woman’s name with a certain fondness, his eyelids fluttering open to look at her.
Lilly’s breath catches in her throat when piercing red eyes stare into hers, the man’s gaze warm and full of gratitude. She stops with her ministrations for a second, stunned at the look Alrick gives her as he squeezes the hand of hers that he’s still holding. Holding her breath, she waits for Alrick to continue talking.
It looks like he’s struggling to get the words out, his gaze moving away from her eyes and towards the side instead like he’s embarrassed. The prince takes their interlocked hands and brings it up to his lips. “Thank you,” he murmurs, his breaths tickling Lilly’s skin before he presses his lips on her fingers and allowing them to rest there for a few seconds in a soft kiss.
“You’re late,” Xiǎomíng notes bluntly, heaving a sigh as he props his elbow atop the table surface and rest his chin upon his palm.
“Sorry,” Peter replies, but before he can explain himself, his friend beats him to the punch.
“Let me guess, you got sidetracked because you helped a lost kid find their parents or helped some old lady cross the street.” Although the young man’s words sound accusing, they’re anything but that, judging by the light and almost fond exasperated tone of his voice.
Peter smiles. “Actually, I was getting back the notes I lent to someone from school.”
Xiǎomíng hums thoughtfully. “You’re too nice,” he comments idly. …Unlike me, he adds quietly to himself, his expression falling with the self-deprecating thought.
Peter doesn’t respond to the comment and instead changes the subject around. “You look tired,” he notes with a concerned tone as he notices the dark circles around his friend’s eyes.
“Do I now?” Xiǎomíng asks, and as if right on cue, a long yawn tumbles from his mouth which he hides behind his hand.
“…Are the nightmares keeping you up again?” The question is asked in a low voice, barely above that of a worried whisper as he slightly leans forward across the table. It pains him to know that his friend is suffering and that there isn’t much he can do.
“Something like that,” the blond responds vaguely, waving his hand in a dismissive manner in the air. He tries to smile to reassure the other young man, but Peter doesn’t look convinced.
The younger male puffs his cheeks into a small pout. After a beat’s pause, he finally stands up from his seat. “I’m gonna go buy something sweet. What do you want?”
Xiǎomíng scrunches his face. “You don’t have to—”
Red eyes fall shut, book in lap forgotten as the Keeper of Light instead chooses to revel in the pleasant company of his partner. Though the silence is pleasing and comfortable, Aurel starts to talk about mundane things to pass the time. Even if Esther offers little in responses, they both understand each other well enough.
The white-haired male allows his hand to brush along Aurel’s in the softest and most gentle of ways which in turn makes the brunette blush, a shy laugh slipping past his lips. Delicate fingers find his own, and Esther interlaces them together, palms pressing flat against each other as he breathes out a content sigh of bliss.
Aurel’s words become lodged in his throat from his partner’s cute behaviour, and the conversation abruptly stops. Instead, the younger Ethel directs his gaze towards the quieter man still comfortably settled against his shoulder, and he smiles with an incredibly fond and adoring glint in his eyes. Wordlessly, Aurel dips his head to plant his lips on the top of Ethel’s head and breathes in his scent. He lingers for a moment before pulling back, turning his head to look away in embarrassment but otherwise unable to wipe away the grin on his face.
