Witch Types

Divination

Divination Witches make use of other tools to help them predict the future, or manifest things into reality. Their talents especially lie in fortune telling or helping to find lost items. Their tools can range from a crystal ball to tarot cards. Each witch usually has one medium they’re most comfortable working with but will have experience in many.

Divination is widely regarded as the easiest for people without innately magical bloodlines to grasp, but still requires much dedication to master.

Characters: Blythe Fowler

Kitchen

Kitchen Witches excel with food and homemaking. Often, they are viewed as the most pleasant type of witch to be around and their magical is universally smiled upon. It isn’t uncommon for witches of this magic type to open cafes, restaurants, bakeries, or anything of that sort. They also tend to create the coziest atmospheres.

Kitchen witchery is well respected by many, but also viewed as a very accessible form of magic for many, especially those that have some inclination towards homemaking already.

Green

Green Witches have an inherent connection to plants and can command them, but also communicate with them in the same way animal witches can with animals. Some Green Witches are known to use their extensive knowledge in plants to create various potions and medicine to heal various ailments and nurse others back to health, making them the most prominent witch in the medical field as well.

This type of magic has become increasingly popular with younger witches and is quickly becoming one of the most common types of magic practiced.

Characters: Amelie Wolff

Animal

Animal Witches have a special connection with animals. This connection allows them to bond easily but also communicate. Witches in this type often go into some field of animal handling or care and have very strong (and vocal) opinions about the mistreatment of animals. Although they specialize in animals, animal witches often have a good basis of understanding of all species in Evralon, creature or not. They also tend to have good relationships with Green Witches because of their love for Evralon and its inhabitants.

Animal witches tend to come from families of the same magic type, often owning generational businesses. They treat any creatures in their lives with the same respect as family, feeling a strong kinship.

Characters: Halona Riev

Ice

Ice Witches are witches with a specialty regarding ice and snow, and a weaker but still prevalent connection to water. They often must live in their own towns up in the mountains because the magic rewires their physiology to work best in colder climates. One application for their magic is Icesmithing, which when done by a skilled witch can be stronger than most metals.

Ice Witches often show their ability at a young age, and often choose to hone that skill rather than branch into a different type of magic. Ice magic, as well as fire, come from an innate quality from the witch themselves, and can only appear in those with a Pure Ice Witch somewhere in their family lineage. A common human could not use this magic regardless of how hard they try. Because of this, it’s considered to be rare outside of established Ice Witch communities.

Ice Witches also have a connection to the Blacthorne Demons of the Buried Moon Kingdom, Neve in the Underworld. Research is currently being done to see if the source of Ice Magic is related to the Underworld.

Fire

Fire Witches have the ability to conjure fire at their will and find comfort in warmer areas. Very similar to the Ice Witch, but with a flipped focus. They are often stereo typed to be a more reckless type of witch because of how easily destructive their magic can be. Fire witches can live anywhere, but still tend to prefer warmer climates, or at the very least places that are sunnier. They can use their magic for a multitude of things, some going into Blacksmithing to mirror their ice counterparts, and others doing things on a smaller scale working in Kitchen and such.

Fire witches present signs of their powers at a young age and can be very dangerous if left untrained in the field. Only those with Fire witch blood already in their family are able to be Fire Witches, and it is unable to be learned by others. It is also considered rare, like Ice Witches, outside of Fire Witch communities.

Characters: Fia Castillo

Sea

Sea Witches draw their power from the sea and in turn have the ability to manipulate water, and in some cases, manifest it, though that's rare. Historically, they have good relationships with Mermaids and a mutual respect for the ocean. Most commonly, Sea Witches reside in beach towns or near the water to get the most out of their magic, as well from a general love of the sea.

Sea Witches are more likely to be Sirens and Mermaids (However not Faoi) than other sentients in Evralon, excluding Pure Witches and Human Witches.

Characters: Theia Lambros

Lunar

Lunar Witches get their power from the moon and often center their spells around it. It is often confused with Cosmic magic. In general, a rivalry exists between the two magic systems resulting in debates of which is better or who inspired who. Witches that choose the Lunar track over the Cosmic one usually feel a pull from the moon itself and regard it dearly.

Lunar witches are the go-to help resource for werewolves because of their knowledge of the moon and its related curses and creatures. They tend to prefer the nighttime and have more of an occult interest than their Cosmic counterparts.

Characters: Calypso Villeneuve

Cosmic

Cosmic Witches get their powers from the stars and often center their spells around it. It is often confused with Lunar magic. Due to their study of the sky and stars, they’ve become quite good navigators. Although the stars are only truly visible at night, Cosmic witches actually find the most solace at dusk and dawn, as well as a peak in their power.

With their magic and knowledge, they’re always considered a good edition to a ships crew (for adventurers, explorers, or even pirates). They’re also firm believers in fate, although not thinking it’s entirely unchangeable.

Characters: Astrid Villeneuve

Eclectic

Eclectic Witches choose to study every type of magic rather than specializing in just one. Mixing magic types is very hard and therefore eclectic witches are seen to be very skilled. The witch academies refuse to let students follow multiple tracks because of its difficulty, so the learning of different magics happens outside of their formal education.

Many Eclectic witches go into some sort of academic or research inclined field to deepen their own understanding of the various types of magic, or to offer their knowledge to others in need.

Necromancers

Necromancers' magic focuses on the dead, be that raising them, communicating with them, or commanding spirits. A necromancer also has the ability to take someone's body over, and if they desire, kill them. They’re connection to the dead grants them the ability to see wandering spirits. Because of the intense nature and what this type of magic allows, Necromancy is regarded as both the most powerful type but also the most dangerous. Necromancy is incredibly hard to master, and those who can are noticeably stronger than their peers.

Because of its dark nature and focus on death, Necromancers are looked down upon by society and ostracized. At the same time, Necromancers are often sought out by people desperate to speak to their lost loved ones again. Not every Necromancer is able to raise the dead, and those who can are considered cursed. Every time they use this power, they’re limbs are increasingly blackened. The dead can only be raised for a brief time before another life is taken at random to keep things in balance. This time can vary between Necromancers depending on their skill and ability to manipulate nature but can never exceed ten minutes (which is considered very lengthy).

Schools outright ban Necromancy as one of the tracks students may take when wanting to master a type. If one wants to learn Necromancy, they must do it on their own through texts, or if they’re lucky, with the help from a Mentor that has mastered the craft.
