It was strange, indeed, what had been reported to him by the others in his group. A strange-looking Lugia, presumably some kind of robot, or a fusion of some sort. It worried Cadmus; he didn’t want this thing to be what wiped out his family and his people, so he took himself, his daughter, Denks, his partner and the one who raised the alarm bells, Marshmallow, and a young upstart guard-in-training that could use the experience, Kalen. The four of them traveled to the spot Marshmallow thought they had seen the large Pokemon, just through a glitch barrier.

Worrisome indeed, if it was trying to break through some form of cyberspace wall to get to their world.

“Stay close to me, everyone. I will be the one to figure this out as your leader.” Cadmus gently, yet sternly, said to everyone in attendance.

“How are we going to take care of this, Cad?” Marshmallow whispered softly to him. “How could we expect to beat something like that?” They looked up towards their partner, and the godlike fusion pressed his nose to their head.

“I promise you, I have just the idea. We’re going to try to talk to it, see if there’s any way we could convince it to either stop trying to break through, or stop trying to enter our world entirely.” The sharp, rough voice of his daughter cut through his thoughts.

“Are you mad?!” she shrieked, her fur puffed out and her wings ruffled. “That thing’s ginormous! And I dunno if it looks like it’s here to talk! I think it wants to destroy the world!” The Zorua-Murkrow’s eyes were wide with terror, but Cadmus wrapped a paw around her, sighing. He knew that sometimes her worries could get out of hand, but…

He looked up to see where the Lugia-like creature was going. The glitches seemed to be pushing and pulling everytime it got closer to them, and it made Cadmus’s whiskers twitch.

“Well, whether it’s here to talk or not, I don’t want to fight something we don’t have to if we can help it. If we need to do it, then we do it, but if we don’t have to, we don’t. Remember, Denks?” The Zorua sighed and folded her wings, pressing against her father-figure. Of course she knew that, that’s why they had a guard, not an army. They weren’t a hostile group, just defensive. Everything was self-defense, everything was in the name of keeping peace. Denks knew that better than anyone.

She finally nodded at Cadmus, who gave her a bright smile and pressed his nose to the top of her head. “There is nothing we need to worry about, anyway, remember? I am a god among you, you were taken in by a god that wants to protect his family and people. And as a god, I can heal if there is any need for it. Okay?”

Denks looked up at him, and saw the look on his face. He was so happy, so gentle, and she couldn’t help but melt in his embrace, calm down finally.

“Okay,” she breathed. “Okay. Protection only, and only as a last resort. I understand.”

“So,” Marshmallow said, cutting through a moment of silence between the god and his kid. “How are we going to go about this?”

Cadmus looked at them and took a moment to think. The idea was that they wanted to talk to the creature trying to break through, without hurting it so it didn’t become hostile before they could really, truly determine it was actually hostile. But they needed to get into position, of course. Which could prove dangerous if the creature felt surrounded.

“Okay, here’s the plan.” Cadmus released Denks, and started to use a claw to draw in the dirt just below them. “We are going to split up. Marshmallow, you and I will go up to the Lugia directly. We are going to try to talk to it, since we are the ones who would prove to be the calmest.” Denks and Kalen nearly protested to that statement, but Cadmus shot knowing glances to them, and they shrank. They knew they wouldn’t be good for that part of the plan, so they listened to the rest of the plan, the part that would involve them.

“Denks, you and Kalen will be at either end, waiting on the sidelines should things go wrong. You will be the first to pounce on the Lugia, as it will be distracted with me and Mallow. But only if things go wrong, do you understand?”

Denks gave her father and leader a nod, and Kalen saluted to Cadmus with his tail, slapping the liquid against the glass-like part of his body holding him in.

With a nod between Denks, Cadmus, and Marshmallow, the four of them split off as they approached the Lugia-like creature. Cadmus watched as one of the glitches near them, to get to the Lugia, got bigger, and he prepared to jump in.

Hold…

Hold….

Hold…

“NOW!” Cadmus shouted, and the whole group jumped into the glitch. It made their bodies buzz and fizz, but they got through the glitch without getting lost, and here they saw just how large the Lugia creature truly was. It was… equal parts breathtaking and terrifying for everyone there, but Cadmus took a deep breath and looked at his group. His family.

“Get to your places, everyone. This may get rough, and it may be hard, but we will be strong together, okay?” He put a paw on the Potten and made the motion to ruffle fur despite him not having any, and he leaned over to Denks and rasped his tongue over her forehead once.

“I love you all, you understand? You stand here with your god to find out a mystery and hopefully put a stop to it. You are doing a service to the Tides and to me, and I will make sure your dues are paid the moment we get home. Now go!”

Cadmus watched his two younger members run off, before nodding and exhaling deeply to Marshmallow. The two of them made their way to their positions in the path of the Lugia creature, and Cadmus looked up, shouting as loud as he could.

“MY NAME IS CADMUS! I IMPLORE YOU LISTEN TO ME, PLEASE!”
