Cheondungchida 1

It was a cool evening in the jungle, the scent of fresh rain still hanging in the air. The last tired birds were squawking and singing their songs, as the light waned and the sunset dipped the land in orange and purple colors, before it gave way to the deep blue shades of the night.

A young jill with bright green pelt and contrasty black and white patches in her fur was gracefully and silently sneaking along the branches of the dense jungle. The bright spots in her fur were glowing even in the dark like eyes and she scanned her surroundings for food, but not like any other regular Mayur. She wasn't interested in spotting a living creature scurring between the leaves or on the ground, but fruits hanging from the trees. She had no interest in killing innocent animals and rather wanted to find a juicy mango to dig her teeth into.

On Noeus shoulder, Sun-Hee, the sun conure, was sitting quietly, sleepily closing her eyes then and again. The bird enjoyed the luxury of having someone to protect her whenever she was sleepy, so she didn't have to worry about any danger and was also able to travel comfortably by riding the Salikos back. She shortly nuzzled The Mayurs neckfur before going back to dozing off.

Finally Cheondungchida got lucky and found a tree with overripe bananas, which she cut off with her claw and bit into, spitting the peel out again after seperating it inside her mouth. The leftovers would nourish other small animals and that thought made her happy. She even picked up a little piece of the fruit and held it towards Sun-Hee, who happily nibbled on it and cooed. After the jill was done, she continued along her way through the jungle. She had been traveling for a long time, but hardly seen any strangers around, let alone foreign tribes. It was very nice to have such a calm journey and she enjoyed the peaceful quiet a lot, despite being alone all the time. At least she had Sun-Hee to talk to, even though the bird could not answer her, at least not in a language the jill would understand.

Noeu climbed back up a tree, where she felt safer and had an easier time navigating, then crawled along the branches.

At a slow river, a jewel stag doe was lowering her head to drink, the oval shaped eyes fixated on the darkness within the bushes around her. Her ears twitched slightly, attentive and keen on picking up any sound that might arise. Though she didn't notice the predator coming closer to her, she wouldn't have understood that there was nothing to fear from it anyway.

The green Mayur stopped when she spotted the doe, careful not to scare it away by getting discovered. She wanted to just watch and admire the creature for a second before it would disappear into the woods again.  Cheondunchida lay down on the thick branch, her eyes resting on the jewel stag, that was still looking around in fear, but kept drinking anyway. It was so beautifully calm and nice here, Cheon could've stayed for ages.

But then a loud crash echoed through the jungle and the doe immediately leaped across the river and hid itself. Cheon looked around but couldn't see anything at first, then she heard voices in the distance. They seemed quiet at first, but one of them got louder and louder, screaming through what seemed like half of Ibea. The jill put her head down, not intending to meet anyone that day and was hoping they'd shut up soon, but the unknown Salikos had no intent in doing so. Suddenly, the sun conure cried out and flew away, towards the noise. The birdcatcher jill immediately jumped to her feet and looked towards where the colorful bird had flown off to.

«Sun-Hee, where are you going? Come back!»

But she didn't listen.

«So typical.»

Cheondunchida rolled her eyes, it had not been easy to take care of a stubborn parrot, but she couldn't risk her companion getting lost or even injured, so the jill jumped from the tree and walked in the direction of the strangers.

She found them quickly, directed by the yelling, but remained hidden in the undergrowth for a while, watching them. Sun-Hee kept flying around them, screeching loudly at a green Mayur that was pressing a shoulder maned Tatra into the dirt.

«Get away you stupid thing or I'll bite you in half! I'm busy here!»

«Hey! Don't you dare hurt my conure!»

Cheondunchida had now jumped out of hiding, stepped right in front of the Mayur hob and floofed up her chest fur to seem bigger, but her size was still uncomparable to the foreigner in front of her.

«Or what? What are you gonna do, you little twerp?»

If there was one thing the jill hated more than unnecessary violence, it was others making fun of her. She pounced on the Mayur and ripped him to the ground, but he quickly got back up again.

«Is that all?»

«What's going on here, huh?! I was trying to get some peaceful rest and you two can't shut the hell up!»

Sun-Hee now flew back to her protector and sat back down, her tiny claws gripping the pelt firmly, while she kept screeching and flapping her wings angrily.

The Mayur slowly shook its head and pointed one of his claws towards the Tatra on the ground.

«I'm just doing what's right! Look at this monster, it's got bright red eyes!»

Cheondungchida curiously wanted to take a look at the shoulder maned Saliko to check if what the angry one said was right, but the Tatra was scared and kept its eyes shut tightly. Only then she noticed the brown hob was shivering and had its Tail tucked between its legs, afraid of the Mayur with the white snout, who was now intently staring into Noeus bright yellow eyes.

«I tell you, it's true. And I'm sure he's got something to do with those crazy birds that have been harassing us for more than four full seasons now! I'm done with this, it's time to make it stop! And HE has to be held accountable for it!»

Cheondunchida didn't quite know what to think about it. As she stared back at the other Mayur, she held his gaze but had to notice that he had red eyes as well. What was that suspicious hob even on about? If there was one thing she hated more than others making fun of her, it was hypocrites.

«Just shut up for a minute and let me think.»

She carefully patted the Tatra on the back and it flinched under her touch, but opened its eyes and stared at her. Or rather through her. The brown ones Mask was extended over his head with gestirn, running across his neck until it reached the shoulders. His face was split by two bright spots that enclosed his eyes which indeed were strangely orange-reddish, but that was not the weirdest thing about the fearful hob. His pupils were bright, almost white and let his eyes seem like they were glowing eerily.

«Please, I did nothing wrong, you have to help me!»

But the jill was surprised about the obviously blind hob on front of her, as she had never seen anything like this before and for a split second, she really thought he was dangerous. The birdcatcher stepped back, the fur on her back ruffling up and her teeth bared, while her ears were folded back.

The Mayur hob with the greyish green pelt and darker stripes gracing his back was completely calm now. He didn't laugh or even grin at her reaction towards the Tatra, but he felt approved nonetheless.

«You see now? I told you the truth.»

The jill didn't want to agree with the mean Mayur, but she had to admit that she was scared of the Tatra, so she kept her distance to it and the hob, despite its blindness, easily interpreted her silence. She wouldn't help him. She had to protect herself and her pet, and Cheon wasn't the best fighter, so she knew she wouldn't be able to chase the Mayur hob away or keep the Tatra safe as well, she just stayed as a silent watcher, ready to diffuse the situations with words if necessary.
