elevator with protonoise's cass donovan

He wasn’t sure how this had happened, really—all the bustle of life had just collapsed in on itself moments before, and now he found himself...where he was now. He understood so little of this deity’s nature and he wanted desperately to talk, actually, to establish some semblance of normalcy, but something in the silence seemed insurmountable, so Cass retreated into himself, just...waiting. In all his years he hadn’t...people had died around him, but his own mortality had hardly occurred to him. He hadn’t let it. For all his talk about a modicum of deity’s blood running through his veins, to come face to face with one now: it hardly mattered to him that Thanatos didn’t personally escort souls to the other side. He felt like saying something about wanting nothing more than to sleep, but he didn’t feel he could comprehend something on that level and didn’t think it was prudent to parallel himself with something like this without thinking. He’d seen more grosteque forms while doing routine work, but this had nothing to do with form. This wasn’t something he could contend with, period.

He stilled, shivering, not making an effort to do anything and hoping the gesture would be echoed in this stranger. He was, honestly, rarely this emotionally vulnerable, and he figured that if the elevator didn’t start moving soon he might end up having other problems to deal with.

Worrying, however, only meant he’d suffer twice.
