Tired Questions Earn You Tired Answers

Despite his reluctance at dozing off, Adam was surprisingly convincing while clinging to him. The drowsy halfling nodding off eventually, but not for nearly long enough before the sounds of small alarms started going off in the other rooms. Even Rayden's own would be joining in the symphony just to make sure he was up in time to get the kids out the door with breakfast.

That five more minutes syndrome kicked in just once before Adam had them both up and out of bed like nothing transpired prior.

An obvious ruse that Rayden easily saw through just by glancing down at those faint markings around his wrists. They weren't bad, but he still rifled around in his closet once he was up to dawn a pair of sweat bands to keep the kids from asking questions he wasn't sure how to answer.

Once the smalls were fed and out the door, the pair of teens were next on the list to finish off breakfast before they had to head out for school as well.

Darkness was keeping unusually close to Rayden, even reaching out to stroke Adam randomly now and again like he had the other night. While it confused his rider, he was simply a confused bean himself, only knowing Rayden had to let go of the ring before everyone calmed down. From what he had gathered, Adam liked and wanted to be touched. They had all been so very pleased until they weren't. Wishing to figure out why, he drifted away from his rider to inch closer to the other. If he did have eyes on his face, they surely would have been hugely looking up at the red head. The best he could do however was reveal the eye on his tail, making slow blinks at Adam while Darkness shrieked softly.

Awaking with the first alarm that went off, Adam could only sigh as he unwrapped himself from the warm comfort of Rayden. Eventually both of them had drifted off to a vague sleep, but not enough for Adam who barely slept, and he was sure not enough for Rayden either. He could only sigh as he got up, Rai up with him as they were off to grab his shirt from the dryer. He’d have to stop by his house real quick to change clothes, but for wandering around the house and getting the kids ready it would do.

“Can we grab cornflakes as we’re there?” His small dragon asked, getting a grunt from Adam as he pulled on his shirt. “That’s not a answer...”

“Yeah, sure. You’ll have to grab them as I’m changing. We don’t have time for me to do everything for you today.” Pleased with this answer, the morning went on.

The morning went normal, that vague feeling of everything was normal but a little bit off lingered but adam ignored the abnormal previous night in favor of no kids asking questions. None the wiser, they were shooed off to the bus, leaving the pair of riders and pair of dragons to get ready for school themself.

Finding a spot at the kitchen table, Adam had his cup of coffee as Rayden finished up cooking their breakfast. Rai laid close by, eating scraps of bacon and toast left behind on the table as the fluffy blond dog was under the table getting floor scraps. With the kids eating their fill there wasn’t much left, but Adam minded not as he’d probably be able to charm some breakfast food off his peers before class started. Looking at his phone at all the missed texts, he started replying back to them as the darkness approached.

At first easy to ignore, Adam eventually looked up to stare at the blob of leaking smoke. Staring at him with it’s eyeless face and his eye tail as if asking a question Adam didn’t know so couldn't give the answer to. Blinking, he reached out a hand to stroke the dark dragon nicely.

“What is it Darkness?” He cooed, Rai screeching softly before he set his phone down to hold out his hand for his own dragon to get some touches, only shaking his head at the needy one.

Slogging through the morning, Rayden wasn't in the best of moods, but he still gave squeezes, head pats, and chased around a couple little demon spawn to get their shirts on. By the time he was in front of that stove he was already nodding off slightly. This was gonna be one of those days he'd be huffed at in the first period for drooling on his desk for sure.

Setting the plate of food in front of Adam, he picked a sausage off, but had his own apple he was munching on while laying his head down on table. Fiiiiive more minutes. That didn't come yet, as Darkness swished his tail over his legs. Yawning, he tilted his head up to look at the dragon that had turned his face towards him while being stroked. Relaying what he wanted through his rider, Rayden went ahead and passed the question along. "He wants to know why you were upset last night." Though the blond wouldn't typically ask himself, that didn't mean he wasn't curious as well. Both of them looking back quizzically at Adam. If he had to wear the itchy bands all day, he might as well stay awake long enough to hear why.

Glad that at least someone in this house could relay what the strange shadowy dragon wanted to say, with Rai satisfied and over to snuggle into the tired Rayden who surely needed some cuddles, Adam started digging into his breakfast made by one of his favorite people. He didn’t always like the things he made, being quite the picky eater, but he usually ate things without complaint as it was food that was made with some sort of love and care.

“Because Rayden touched something he wasn’t supposed to, is fine now though.” It was a vague explanation, one that maybe should have more tacked on, but if now one was going to ask then he wasn’t about to answer. “Your wrist is alright, right?” He asked Rayden, knowing he grabbed him pretty roughly but hadn’t a chance to examine him like he’d please. They kind of hurried through the mornings a lot, and he didn’t get that chance to watch him dress up or undress and just enjoy that feeling of knowing he could.

Blinking, Rayden supposed he should have asked before trying to examine something the other didn't show off, but he hadn't thought there would be such a strong reaction. Darkness whined again at Adam as if wanting more information from him. His rider was already pushing himself back up from the table though, not looking like he was about to ask any more as he stroked Rai before shooing the little one back over towards their own rider. Gently stroking the red headed rider, the dark dragon accepted when he couldn't get anything more between the two.

Rayden merely hefted his backpack up on his shoulder and gave Adam a tired look. He was holding back a second yawn while gathering himself up for the trip out. "I already told you I'm fine, check it out," Heading off towards the door, he turned back to bring both arms up, middle fingers raised nice and high for the red head to see. In truth, turning those hands up for that gesture might have sent an echo of its soreness through the bond, but Rayden had dealt with far worse, this was child's play. Literally, his siblings put him through more pains when he smacked knees, toes, and elbows into corners and doors. "Stop underestimating me and hurry up or I'm leaving without you."

Rolling around in the locks of golden hair that were just a little more fun to place with compared to Adam’s shorter hair, Rai was having a great time as he dashed off, only to run back and roll around some more before darting off again to repeat. Rai had the best of sleep, thankfully not affected by his rider’s lack of it and often was just an energetic ball of fire breathing that wanted nothing more than to play and have fun even if no one else wanted to.

“Mmmmm, I don't know if i believe you.” Adam mused, but getting up he was stuffing the last piece of toast in his mouth, dropping the dishes in the sink and pushing in his chair to grab Rai, his bag, and slip on his shoes. Able to eat the last triangle by the time he got to the door, he was stuffing the wiggling orange dragon into his pocket as he leaned over to give Rayden just a peck on his cheek. “I need to grab some clothes before i head to school, I’ll see you there!”

Thankfully a speed demon, Adam had no doubts he wouldn't be late to the first class, even if he wanted to be. And maybe with luck he’d roll up right as Rayden got there, so he could rub on him some more as if trying to get forgiveness for doing wrong even if Rayden said it was fine. He was sure he was, but those scared eyes remained with him, and for once he didn’t want to see that on the blond’s face. That look of terror that many people in his young years would give him that now weighed heavily on his shoulders.
