Living In The Winter Wonderland

Pulling his boots on as he looked out into the small blizzard stirring outside, Adam hummed as he debated what he should take to go pick up the small family that was a bit of a distance away. He could take the car, and cram the 5 others and the dog into it, but as he thought about it that didn’t sound fun at all.

“It looks cold outside.” Rai said, laying on the side table in what looked like a very overly fluffy sock that he was not about to take off any time soon if going outside. Only the dragon’s wings and head stuck out of it for now, his legs tucked inside.

“Yeah it does, should have heated up the car first...” Both jumped as they heard another voice behind them though, forgetting there were others in the house.

“Be careful, son. You’ll probably want to go take the van if you’re going to go pick up Rayden and the kids.” Turning as he spotted his father, he nodded before he looked up to the mistletoe by the door.

He himself didn’t mind it too much, he loved kisses from his parents and any guests that may come in. Be that neighbors, mailmen, plumbers, electricians, etc. They did vary in forms of kisses but right now as Adam was debating what to do he wished there wasn’t a small hoard of mistletoe right at the entry way so no one could escape welcome in kisses. Leaning his head down, he let his father kiss the top of his head as he grabbed his jacket, supposing he better head out as the day was young.

“Alright, I’ll be back. Prepare yourself for the demon spawn hoard.” Pausing as his chocolate lab bounded over, (still with her red fake nose glowing, antlers perfectly on her head, and small booties still on,)  he could only laugh and gave her a long stroke as well. “I’ll be back Bloody Baby, keep mom and dad company.”

Picking up Rai who was stuffed into his coat before fully zipped up, all he could hear was the pleased purs of the dragon as he headed out into the blast of cold.

"Make sure you got your pants stuffed into your boots!" Came the call from the kitchen, Rayden just finishing up some snacks to send the kids off with. Winter break was upon them, snow covering everything in a thick layer of white and bullshit. He was just tying up little bags of cookies and dried fruits to pack in the backpacks. The small horde of half demons were currently chasing around the large black cat they had finally come to accept as a soft, pet-able creature that only sometimes made scary noises.

Wiggling his way down the hall, Darkness was enjoying the game of chase. If the kids ever grabbed hold of him too roughly, or he didn't wish to be pet, he could always go incorporeal. Disappearing into the shadows was also an option, but he was having a grand time. They were all just about to leap over the couch in their excited rampage when there was a knock at the door. Squeals surely being able to be heard along with the pitter patter of little feet, they all crowded around the door. The tallest among them reaching up to turn that knob and peak out juuuust in case. The door was soon flung open so the little hoard could poor out, glomping the red head's legs. "Adam!"

Already expecting the other to arrive soon, Rayden gathered up the pack of snacks, picking up a hot cup of cocoa as well to head to the door with. "'Sup," he greeted simply, waving Adam to come on in for a moment. "Just gotta grab Sammy's scarf real quick." Toss the bag by the door, he held out the mug, not about to step too close to the door frame as their house was littered with mistletoe traps of their own. The kids loved putting them over every archway plausible.

The upside of their winter wonderland that would make santa proud was the roads were clear. Or maybe it was christmas day was that one, either way the road was an empty sight and Adam could be left to more reckless ways if he so wanted. He didn’t though, this was not his vehicle and honestly he was pretty sure his parents went out and got a new one just to be able to pick up all the kids at once with no issues.

“It may make us go faster though!” Rai pointed out at one point as they waited at the red light of the empty street, curled up against the heater meant for the windshield.

“Or we can be patient, it’ll only take us a few minutes more to behave.”

“No fun!” The dragon huffed, but was fine with waiting as long as the van was warm.

As he came to the apartment, he was quite surprised to see the young manager sitting at the desk. A festive hat on his head as he waved at the red head that came in, offering candy canes that he declined. This was a stop he planned on making though, but now was the perfect chance to hand over the small gift as he passed.

“Merry Christmas, stay safe!” He called back, up the flights of stairs to that door he knew oh so well.

As they came up the last flight of stairs, Rai zoomed off to knock on the door, back to Adam by the time he made it and didn’t even wait long to see those small little faces that were mostly dressed for the outside tundra.

“Yes, are you small spawns ready? Santa brought you many gifts to my parent’s house last night.” Those excited jumps and squees were precious, pressing his way in to see his favorite of the bunch. The older blond was grabbing the last of the stuff, offering the hot chocolate that Adam sniffed before taking a sip as Rayden walked away.

“Hurry! Food! WARM!” Rai screeched as he climbed back into Adam’s jacket, earning a sigh as he cooed at Darkness and offered a spot inside the warm coat as well.

“Yes, do hurry, the kids may explode from excitement if you don’t.” Adam did purposely wait near the doorway, wanting that promised kiss of a mistletoe before they headed back out.

Going back for the scarf, Rayden shook his head at the impatient group. "It's their own fault if they do, I told them not to forget anything." Heck, he was surprised there wasn't more he needed to grab for them, but they all tried their best to be out that door lickety split. Getting an adorable thank you from his little sister as he expertly wrapped the scarf around her on his return, everyone was dressed up and ready for outs.

Glancing around, he didn't see Darkness, but that wasn't too unusual. The dragon had already made his way inside the warm coat though, shrinking down to a size similar to Rai and tucking in their limbs to fit in snugly. It was nice and warm, made even warmer next to the living heater of a fire dragon. Shrieking softly, the dark noodle did make a bit of noise so his rider could look over to be certain he was there for the head count without having to guess.

"Alright, everyone's ready, go on you flock of dorks, go say goodbye to the manager and only take ONE candy cane." Emphasizing the one, he was pretty sure that bowl might be emptied out, but hopefully they'd have a hidden stash prepared for such a thing. Not forgetting to give Adam his kisses as they hurried out, the five children made their way noisily down to the elevator. Rayden, on the other hand, picked up the backpack and stared at that red head. Maaaybe if he simply didn't mention that little hanging plant, he could hurry on out the door without trouble. "Common else we'll get left behind." Thinking it worth a try, he headed out without making a move to give that boy a kiss too.

“Now, now Rayden. Kids will be kids. Just sooooo excited they want to just go and forget about things.” In fairness, they just had to make it to the van in the winter weather. Anything after that could be found around the house if they wanted to head out and play for a few hours but came ill prepared.

Feeling Rai wiggle around to make room for the other dragon, there came some murrs before both settled in, Rai’s tail for a moment popping out to flick around before Adam shoved that back and and made sure no fleshy bit were near the zipper and they were zipped up inside. Rai was making himself at home in the warmth, knowing Rayden was going to be in the passenger seat so he should stay in the warm until their destination was reached.

“Don’t forget the puppy too, he was invited as well.” Adma told Rayden as he watched him pause, before heading back in to pick up the big furry dog who was maybe a bit too big to carry. WIth Rayden back to the door though, Adam leaned in for a small kiss now that Rayden was back under that mistletoe. It was now his turn to pick up the furry dog and carry him away after the sounds of kids. “And hurry up! Don’t want the van to get cold now!”

“Yeah!” His jacket wiggled and agreed, both off towards the elevator or stairs, whatever the kids had taken that would get them down faster before they zoomed off even more.
