Explicit Violence

You'd left home only a week prior, hastily throwing essentials into a backpack and evacuating. But the one thing you didn't think to pack, water, likely the most important thing, somehow, forgotten. "im going to fucking die out here, alone and helpless" Your thoughts spilling out of your mouth. Rolling your eyes and looking ahead. Nothing but the horizon, no animals, or other crilxoid, no plants, and most regrettably, no water Just sand and the occasional trashy shelter.

Chapter 10

You nod.
"I see, I see. So...Kip. What do you say about...giving us some insight from the..perspective of one of the infected, or..former infected? What's it like? And do you have any idea how to stop it?" Kip sighs.
"You'll wanna sit down for this one love." She says in a hushed tone. Despite knowing it's just a metaphor, you do exactly that because you're probably going to be here for a while. Kip clears her throat, "You should know, it's not the parasite that drives us mad. It's the pain. The sheer agony. The parasite has nothing to do with our behavior. The aggression and... empty-headedness is us trying to either distract ourselves or ignore the pain. Those killing the infected are honestly doing them a favor. The poor folks... Anyway. What's it like you ask? Well, I'll tell ya. It's the constant feeling of things crawling under your skin, metaphorically, and literally-" She pulls a handful of those thin black worms out of her jacket sleeve and crushes them, she's clearly missing an arm underneath. She then continues "-As well as knowing the next person to see you could very well blow your head off of your shoulders and claim self-defense. Most of us don't want to harm anyone. We're just as terrified as you are. If anything, we're scared that you are going to attack us. As for how to stop it? That's... a difficult question to answer. The parasite itself will always be around unless it can be killed off. But stopping the infection? Removing the parasite. Maybe through physical removal, or medication. I dunno. I'm sure there are others like me. The parasite is picky... It wants the healthiest and most reliable host, which most of us aren't anymore. So honestly, since there aren't many healthy folks around anymore, the parasite may just kill itself off through over infection. That's about all I know."
You ponder this and then turn to Aeryn.
"Do you think we could get a few samples of those worms to some of the biologists behind the scenes? If...That's alright with Kip of course."
Kip nods in approval.
"Well...It's a bit of a distance to walk to headquarters in Legate...But I'm sure we could make it by nightfall? In the best conditions." Aeryn says, a thin layer of unease lacing her voice. At that, you promptly stand up.
"Well, I think that's the signal folks. Out of this dusty building and grimy city we go to Legate. One of the last uninfected cities...But to get there... We have to go through... Ertonphia..." You announce, feeling confident at first, but soon falling into fear as you realize that you have to travel through Ertonphia to get to Legate. Everyone knows of or at least has heard of Ertonphia. It's one of the most dangerous cities still standing. The infected lurk around every corner and in every alley. And it's not just the infected that you need to worry about either. There are healthy Crilxoid everywhere either. But they aren't the friendly welcoming type... Guns, knives, axes, crossbows, HELL, POISON LACED NEEDLES! As soon as you step into the hellhole every weapon under the sky is shoved in your face! You've only been there once before. Years ago. And no doubt, it's gotten millions of times worse since then... Since...everything else has gotten worse. And the purge was announced just yesterday... But, going through Ertronphia is your only option, that is, if you truly want to stop this.
