You'd left home only a week prior, hastily throwing essentials into a backpack and evacuating. But the one thing you didn't think to pack, water, likely the most important thing, somehow, forgotten. "im going to fucking die out here, alone and helpless" Your thoughts spilling out of your mouth. Rolling your eyes and looking ahead. Nothing but the horizon, no animals, or other crilxoid, no plants, and most regrettably, no water Just sand and the occasional trashy shelter.

Chapter 12

Left and right, you're swarmed by the infected, to which Kip makes feeble attempts to reason with. But, the infected are the least of your worries, looking around, you see hundreds of thousands of weapons pointed at you, gun barrels, sharp, blunt, hollow, solid, you name it, it was in your face. Aeryn clears her throat, hoping that the realization of who exactly is being dealt with here, will ward off the new enemies. Unfortunately, this just increases their aggression. You're surrounded now, and while the infected have halted, and are now just staring at you with their dead eyes. The healthy citizens of the city are still pointing their weapons at you. No words being spoken, just the occasional growl or grunt coming from an individual or two in the crowd. It's almost like a unanimous hive-mind, likely a city of those supporting the former sovereign, whose name dare not be uttered. Then, a handful without weapons come barreling out of the crowd and towards you, lunging at the faces in your group. But before they reach you. Two others from the group leap in front of them and drag them to the ground. You hear a deep growl from a grounded man.
"Caelum, Glenn. What in the name of hell has gotten into you!" The crowd hastily backs up. And the two who protected you- or just want your meat for themselves gracefully stand up as if they've done this a million times before. The taller of the two, a long-haired man in a red button-down and a black apron, with a heavily scarred face holds a bloodied hand out to you and your group, speaking up.
"My apologies for the-" He pauses and gives a side-eye to those of the group he can still see, then continues in a harsh shout. "STREET-RAT CITIZENS OF ERTONPHIA." He continues to hold his hand out, adding a mangled smile. Side-stepping, you allow Aeryn to shake his hand instead, I mean, she is the sovereign after all. Right? Aeryn gives a grimace and hesitantly shakes the man's hand. He continues "Ah! Sovereign Aeryn Gaelan. What a joy to see you, my name is Caelum, and this is my sister, Glenn." He ushers to the shorter of the two, a young woman with a purple pixie cut, tattered clothes, and a snarling face. Caelum continues "Now what may you be traveling here for?" Aeryn's face twists in disgust and she growls, nothing you've ever seen out of the normally proper lady before.
"We're not here for you or your junk rats. Now if you will. Let us through, siiirrr..."  Caelum fidgets with his hands and steps out of the way. But it appears you're not quite done here yet. The woman- Glenn, shoves Caelum out of the way and snarls.
"Don't think you're gonna be comin' through here without an explanation!" At that Axon steps up and leans down to match the meek height of Glenn.
"We don't want to be sticking our noses- or claws, where they don't belong, now do we, lassie?" The rather intimidating man hisses. Glenn steps aside, now sweating nervously, she fumbles with her words,
"No! No- Of course not sir- I- I mean commander!" Her demeanor has changed entirely. From an angry beast to a fidgety mess in less than a minute.
The commander gives his signature sharp-toothed grin. "Now, that's more like it." He hisses again, then turns around to face Aeryn, you, and Kip, who has found her way back into the group. "Now! What are we waiting for folks! Let's get a move-on yeah?" Chuckling, he starts to make his way through the parted crowd. Though, out of the corner of your eye, you can see Caelum and Glenn pushing members of the crowd away, to be able to discreetly follow your group. It seems like this isn't the last of those two...
