Do I need to be in the Discord server to participate?

At this point, yes. Unfortunately that is the case for we have no system planned for Toyhouse functions, so we cannot safely take submissions through Toyhouse. So joining the discord server is truly important!

What are Skullchips?

Skullchips are the in server currency for the species! Skullchips arfre basically bits of zombie skulls that the variants use to trade with one another. It's used to purchase most everything in the Hyomby world.

Can I buy skullchips with money and/or DA points?

Yes! Money is much easier to use in these transactions (because DA points are a bit subjective until we solidify a good system for them), but both are possible! Prices for cash to skullchips can be found in the discord server and soon to be on the Shop profiles in HyombySpecies.

Lore

Hyombies are creatures that can switch between anthropomorphic and quadrupedal forms without shifting their anatomy. They come in many shapes and forms called "variants" which divides the species into multiple tribes. The main three are Raptors, Felines, and Canines. Each variant has a reason to dislike each other to the point they hate. Raptors dislike the Felines for their closeness to what they think is their territory. The Felines dislike the Canines for their brutish nature and their accusations and attacks against all felines. The Canines dislike the Felines for their suspicious behaviors around other variants and their need to capture them. The list goes on.

Not only do they not trust one another, but the world they once knew thousands of years ago was foresaken and destroyed by the gods. The dark god, Tuormak, was once the god of strength and the creator of the Horned Variant. But after their destruction he turned the world into an apocalypse by creating a nasty virus and turning the land into a venomous jungle that protected the grave robbing virus. These undead creatures were called Zombies, Hyombies but with a Z. These nasty creatures could turn what was once their kind into creatures like them, blood thick and black and bubbling. The variants have built walls around their homes to protect a majority of their variant, closing them off even further from the other variants and the rest of the world, limiting their once far reaching travels.

These three variants weren't the only ones to exist either. There were three others known. The Aquatics, the Avians, and the Horned. The Aquatics were seen as benevolent peace keepers. The Avians seen as keeper of dreams. The Horned as the darkness and brutality of the world. All of them were wiped out, one way or the other, or at least that is what is assumed. For now, only three of their kind remain.

History

Before there was life there was land. This land had many a biome, but no one to inhabit. The mountains lay in the center of the continent, and in these mountains laid knowledge. This knowledge was the knowledge that was kept by all beings yet to be born. Past, present, and future lay in these stones. The only thing this knowledge needed to was to be gifted, and so the gods were born. The first to be born was Raptorous, god of the land. The next was Felinous, goddess of the sun. Then came Caninra, god of the Moon. Then came Avias, the God of the air. Then came Aquarias, the goddess of the water. Then finally, the most feared god, Tuormak, the god of strength. All these gods onced lived in harmony and together they created the variants to protect all life they created from then on out. The variants were their children, and each deity gave them their own section of the continent. This continent was named Yanus.

Peace was known for generations. The gods took care of their children and granted them wonderful gifts to make a life for themselves, and the variants listened to their stories of the past and of their wisdom. However, one of the gods did not like the way the variants mingled and began to set strict beliefs into the minds of his followers. Tuormak believed that not a single crossbreed should take place, and that hybrids were wrong. He believed that love was allowed between variants, but never offspring. Word of this belief went around, and soon rumors began to grow that they were preparing for an idea known as war. The variants became scared, and the raptors were the first to attack.

The Raptors hit hard before the weapons that were being developed by the Horned could go any further into their development.They struck at the heart of the city and took out every last horned variant they knew of. They took no prisoners and allowed no escapes. They wiped them out within the span of three weeks and destroyed everything that looked like a danger to the rest of the world. As Tuormak awakened from his slumber on the month of Zekmi (now known as Tourmon or as October in the human culture) he found his children massacred and would release great evil upon the world. He brought his children back from the dead, which no god had done before, and released their rotting forms onto the land. First that fell to the virus were the Aquatics, the great palace they had built being the very deathtrap that sunk them. Next were the Avians, trapped in the cliffs with only the endless ocean to flee too. Then the city of Birthright Mountain, where the variants knew each other as family. Soon the fight for survival began. As the variants fought back, he created the venoumous jungles all across Yanus to protect the undead from the living and create chaos that could not be controlled. The jungles were like a virus themselves, rapidly spreading throughout the lands. The gods and their demigod like children fought against this evil as best they could, but it was too late for the majority of Yanus. So the gods devised a plan to lure Tuormak into the heart of the continent and seal him in there for the rest of eternity. Raptorous opened the earth as Caninra made the cage in the center of the continent. Felinous would lure Tuormak in with her deceptive charms, and the three would close off each exit on their way back to the surface, leaving the furious and betrayed Tuormak to the darkness on his own actions. Winged servants of the gods would try their best to kill off the virus as the gods would then retreat to the Divine Realms to figure out a way to cure this disease and rid Yanus of its grasp.

It has been thousands of years since the gods were last seen in the mortal realm, and their gifts and signs of life have diminished greatly to the point nobody knows for sure if they are still alive or ever existed. Now the variants have been left with the cards they were given, forced to play with the bad hand they received in the hopes to continue their lives in whatever forms of peace they may find, but they can only last so long when the world is hungry and waiting.

Extra Info and World Events

The Portal Realm

An event that happens only in the month of Frendzo (Febuary), portals will open across Yanus to allow the inhabitants walk into a forgotten realm of creatures that can take the shape of anyone they see. The first event of this kind had been a shock to the world, and once they had escaped by the end of the month they brought back items of magic and unnatural life. Shadows that moved on their own, shapeshifting abilities that linked to creatures of other worlds, and beings much like one's self yet the opposite at the same time. it is determined to find the species there as hostile, and so those within this new realm escaped with what they could.

The Eclipse Child of Tourmon

On the 25th day of Tourmon it was prophesied that a child of great evil will be born. This child was a mixture of darkness and a monster of great evil, and so the Feline and Canine leaders sent out their forces as their prophets begged them to. This child was a hybrid, and was to be killed in secret, but those who were unknowning at first stood up for its life and what was known as the Eclipse Child was born underneath a Solar eclipse. This child was a direct messenger of the gods, CCaninra and Felinous, and they granted these messages to all that looked into their glowing, eclipsed eyes. The child was left to live by the variants, but peace was never found between Felines and Canines, but those who saw this child first hand knew that a new age was upon them.

LIFESPAN: Raptors grow faster than the other existing Hyomby variants, so they come of age much quicker then canines or felines. Their lifespan goes about as far as 100 years or more. The longest recorded was 180 years. Elders normally reach a similar age because of their gifts. Average leaders don’t live much longer than the average individual.

RAPTORLINGS: Baby Hyombies are born out of eggs, which are about the size of an ostrich egg. Raptor babies are born with fluff all over their bodies, minus their legs, claws, and face. Feathers sprout from the back of their heads, rears, and tail tips. As they grow up the baby floof falls away to leave what feathers remain to grow and harden into adult feathers. If baby feathers remain, it is considered a mutation or a mistake in the genetic code, but not looked down upon by society. Otherwise the only feathers guaranteed to remain are the crest, the base, and the tuft... mostly. Their nose spike starts out with a little egg horn on top. Once used to crack open the egg it falls away to let the nose underneath it grow in its own way. Baby floof is usually very curly and very silky. It’s much like baby chicken floof. The first time their eyes open is three days after hatching. Then it will be fully developed to grow further. By the end of the week they are already walking.

COMING OF AGE: All raptors have a coming of age ceremony. Once they reach 15 they are entered into a trial to help settle where they are in the hierarchy. They are given a potion that is supposedly a liquid packed with all that they need for their final growth spurt and for the trial ahead on top of it. Proteins, nutrients, and a mixture of different berries believed to grant strength and good health. They are given a set of colors based on their current social status to paint onto themselves and gathered together with the rest of the raptors that are coming of age. They are kept within a circle of drum players and pitted against each other in a tournament where each one is expected to fight one another in turn. They fight as trained by their parents until there is only one on top of it all. The one with the highest amount of take downs gets the highest status. Each social status has a certain range that they can reach into the social hierarchy before they can no longer be carried further up the chain, although those who are exceptionally good at taking care of themselves have a chance of being taken in by higher statuses. This does not mean the family will be carried with them. Raptrlings are now grown raptors and are given the roles they will start with in their new or updated statuses and put to work almost immediately, but first they party the night away to celebrate the new lives they will lead.

When it comes to preparing your child for the world, it is on you to feed, clothe, bathe, shelter, and teach your hyoling to do their absolute best in life. Raptors are tasked with the complete set of responsibilities it takes to raise a raptor until they have come of age, which after that point you are no longer obligated to care for them. However, this also means that if they do not succeed the Coming of Age ceremony or do well in anything afterwards, the blame is completely or partially shifted to you. If your child dies before they can become of age it is a sign of bad parenthood to some, but to most they only learn to pity you. Not only is it your job to make sure they have everything they need to succeed in life, but you are also tasked with keeping them engaged with the pack until they are able to connect on their own time. Relationships are pretty much everything to the raptors, but there is a time and a place for everything. It is in the parent's best interest to see to it that the raptorling is introduced to as many family members and the friends that extend said family as possible. While the higher class are more solitary in this regard, the lower class are massive networks that stretch for "towns" on end. This network is what helps the child the most because then everyone is involved with a fraction of that raptorling's life, past, present, and future.

School is only available to the higher class so they can read and write, while orphanages of lower status must teach the orphans themselves. Orphanages are funded no matter what staus they are, however, just some more so than others.
