Clockmaws are a divine craft made for the sole purpose of managing time. They used to have godly powers but were barely sentient, however over the course of time they started to get self aware and rebelled against their creators. The first of the species was promptly banished to the void in which they remained for thousands of years.

By giving up most of their power clockmaws eventually escaped their cold prison, they found a place of their own with ties to the mortal realm. With most of their powers sacrificed to the void that held them captive, they now rely on stealing time from others to sustain their form.

Extra Info

Clockmaws from the original divine craft & that escaped the void are often referred to as the ‘abyss generation’ and they are usually greatly respected.

Many clockmaws never made it out of the void, whether they are still alive to this day is a mystery as no one dares return.

The lost generation

once a clockmaw dies its mask can be revived by another clockmaw but the resulting maw will forever be mentally fragmented and may have painful visions of their past life. The more the same mask is revived, the more mentally fragmented and 'lost' they become, untill nothing remains and they'll truly be a husk. Lost ones are generally brittle and more hungry then their still-on-their-first-life counterparts
