BUKIMI LORE FAQ

  • How are Bukimi made in the first place?

It’s not the simplest process, but it’s effective! They do reproduce by themselves, just like any other animal! However, they use one of the gifts they were given, the gift of creation. By gathering precious materials, such as gems, plant matter, metals, and more, as well as sacrificing a bit of flesh from each Bukimi parent.

(NOTE: A single Bukimi parent is possible, but they need to sacrifice much more.)

(NOTE: This process includes crossbreeds. The other non Bukimi parent would still need to sacrifice flesh.)

The Bukimi “combines” all of the materials by putting them in their mouth. When swallowed, all the materials combine is a special stomach specifically for a child. After a few days, a child will pop out of the Bukimi’s endless pouch! Bukimi can resume their normal schedule as normal. Bukimi may be made in human form with the same process, however the Bukimi will transform their face to allow the child to expel through the mouth. It’s a… pretty gross site, which is why most Bukimi prefer having children in anthro form!

This “pseudo-birth” is painless, and quick. An hour before the “birth”, Bukimi gets the instinct to nest. The partner of the Bukimi, if any, should be present. The baby Bukimi, also known as Buki, imprints on the first few things they see as parents, somewhat like ducks! As they age, they of course know the difference.

  • Does the material used to make a Bukimi matter?

Yes! The rarity and qualities of the material used directly correlate to the rarity of the Bukimi! For example, a Bukimi which is created using rocks, and cheap metals such as copper tends to be common. If a Bukimi was created with, let's say, gold and diamond, it’s almost guaranteed the Bukimi will be mutated.

  • Do Bukimi have any sort of holidays/rituals? Religion?

Religion is simply up to the Bukimi! They typically do not follow human traditions, but some Bukimi who like humanity will adapt and attend religious meetings! As for holidays and rituals, Bukimi have plenty! Here are some down below!

  1. Bukimi have both fall and spring rituals, as Bukimi help the seasons change. They are intertwined with nature and animals, so they consider this a sort of “job.” These rituals can range from helping things grow or wilt for the spring or winter, helping certain animals hibernate, gathering food, and generally anything they can do to help the progression of weather!
  2. Bukimi are generally very interested in the human “pride-month.” Bukimi don’t really have gender, or sexuality. They all tend to Fall in love with who they fall in love with! They love the idea of having a month to express who they really are, a month where they can be with themselves. Many Bukimi go to pride parades, expressing support and empathy for LGBTQ+ people who have to hide who they are. Bukimi are very active in pride events, both for Kimi and Humankind! This is one of the few rare events where Bukimi and Humans get along! Even BKM loves this holiday!
  3. Bukimi have an important ritual in which they stay in anthro form for 2 weeks before the new years. They physically cannot transform during this time period, which generally means they are restricting to BKM or Bukimi-only spaces. Whilst some Bukimi get depressed because of not being able to see humans, a lot of them enjoy the idea of spending time with the rest of the Kimi! There are festivals held, and Bukimi dress up in wonderful metals and gems. Buki born during this time period are considered Star-Dust Children, which is good luck in Kimi heritage!

  • What is the typical Bukimi lifespan?

Trick question! Bukimi cannot die, unless killed. This means Bukimi typically do not age and will live forever unless hunted. Our mascot, Beau, has lived a little over 600 years! He has seen many humans in his time, has studied their behaviors, and more. The more a Bukimi studies humanity, the more they understand their form. Bukimi typically have to hide themselves every few years to appear not immortal.

  • What do Bukimi eat?

Bukimi can eat anything and everything! Ranging from other animals, rocks, plants, stardust, and more. Bukimi have multiple stomachs which help it process “food” from anywhere. Even if the food has no nutritional value, as long as it is a sort of matter it will “fuel” a Bukimi.

There have been recorded incidents of Bukimi being more dangerous in hunting. Some Bukimi, once they have tasted something so enchanting, tend to not go back to eating other things. This can result in some very odd Bukimi, especially malicious ones towards humankind. These Bukimi, however, are restrained by BKM, so please don’t worry about being eaten for breakfast! We assure you; nothing will go wrong.

  • Can Bukimi stay human forever?

The answer to this is somewhat complicated. Bukimi CAN stay human for as long as they wish, but it is not advised. The longer a Bukimi stays in human form, the higher the chance of loss of sanity. A month or two without changing is fine. 3 is pushing it. 5 or more, and the Bukimi in question will start to display signs of agitation, aggression, aggravation, and so on. The longer they go without changing back, the worse these symptoms get. Only a few hours in Anthro form per month will fix this condition right up!

Some Bukimi dread these few hours, but they also tend to spend it with the people of which they love most.

  • So… What does BKM do?

I’m so glad you asked! BKM helps stray Kimi turn into Bukimi; and helps them be functional members of society. Typically, the agency will assign a Bukimi a human guide, someone who has either volunteered to do so, or paid. This person will lead and teach the Bukimi about society, and things such as the economy, jobs, hobbies, communication, and more. Once the human guide feels the Bukimi has learned enough, they are released into the world by themselves!

BKM supplies these Bukimi with jobs, housing, and more, so they may be functioning members of society. Bukimi who are trickier to teach, let alone persuade, tend to end up back in rehab more than they would like.

BKM has many connections to the government, as well as schools. Bukimi who present younger, (under 18) will have an underaged guide within the school systems! There are also Bukimi only schools, though these tend to be for troublemakers.

  • Is the existence of Bukimi common knowledge?

Yes, and no! To the normal blue-collar worker, Bukimi are simply fictional, or myths. People who go into fields of sciences, and animal studies, typically know what Bukimi are, and how they function. Basically, anyone who has a reason to know what Bukimi are, knows!

  • Why are Bukimi expressions so limited? Why can’t they do more?

Transformation is a very tiring process. Bukimi don’t do it as much as you would think. When making an expression, it causes the Bukimi great pain to change so often. It’s easier for most Bukimi to keep a simple range of expressions. The more powerful the Bukimi, the more expressions they may hold. This could be because of tolerance, or more. The greatest number of expressions a Bukimi may hold is 5. No Bukimi has ever been recorded to have more than this.
