Plant Fauna

TREES

Alder
One of the most common species of tree in the mire. Though, compared to vegetation as a whole, they are incredibly rare. They are usually found close to the eastern border. Cats use the bark for relief from tooth pain.
Spruce
Only slightly more common than spruce, the area they are found in overlaps with alder trees in the eastern area and expands to the northern border. Cats have no use for this tree, the oils from the needles are irritating and ingestion can damage the digestive system. It is easliy identifiable and avoided, though inexperienced apprentices could end up in trouble after playing with the needles.

FLOWERING PLANTS

Comfrey
A fairly rare herb. It's easiest to find in the slightly drier areas of the territory, growing close to bushes or tree lines. This plant is highly desired because of the medicinal value of it's roots. Medicine cats are reluctant to use it due to it's rarity. It's good for stiffness since it can reduce inflammation. Comfrey also soothes wounds, burns and itching. Most importantly, it can be used to make a comfortable sling for cats with broken bones.
Daffodil
A very common plant that is found almost everywhere in the mire, though is more largely found in rocky northern terrain. The sap is used to treat bee stings. Medicine cats will try to use daffodils before anything rarer such as comfrey roots, since the leaves can be chewed by an injured cat to be used as a painkiller; in the hopes that the cat will recover by themselves first.
Watermint
A plant somewhere between common and uncommon, usually found growing near stagnant bodies of water such as ponds or flooded ditches. It can be chewed into a pulp before being eaten and reduces bellyache.
Water Hemlock
Uncommon but to be avoided becasue this plant is toxic. Ingestion causes spasms, pain, and foaming at the mouth.

FLOWERLESS PLANTS

Horsetail
Somewhat common, horsetail is found growing in the wetter areas, especially around the lakes and streams. It's an important plant, used to treat infection and reduce bleeding when the poultice is applied to open wounds.
Ferns
These are rather common. Usually used to wrap multiple supplies for easy carrying across long distances, replacing large leaves which often decompose in the mud too quickly to be effectively collected. It's also a popular choice for lining nests with.
Moss
Slightly rare, found only on trees and rocks in areas that are at least somewhat damp, most commonly by streams. The cats use it to filter and store clean water for sick cats. Just before seasons of heavy rainfall, the clan will gather large amounts of moss and store them in a dry area; they are later used to filter water since most sources are dirty as floods cause muddy water.
