✦Wishwing Biology

Wishwings are a unique species with a fascinating body structure.

Wishwings have a unique biology that allows them to function and thrive. The most notable feature would be their large paper wings, which under any normal circumstances would not allow them to fly. In fact their wings are made of ordinary paper. If a piece is removed there is no way of knowing it came from one. It's only through their special power that the wings can be allowed to lift them off the ground and regenerate if damaged. The stronger the wishwing, the more powerful their wings are. Despite the interesting properties, their wings are still weak to rain and will become somewhat soggy making flight difficult. Because of this many prefer to have a safe sheltered area in close contact in case of such an incident. Especially since many wishwings find flying(or rather floating) more comfortable than walking.

Continuing on this subject. Wishwing legs are a fascinating design. Despite the mostly humanoid appearance, their legs have a digitigrade design with their signature "fluff" at the bottom of the leg. Many often refer to wishwing legs as dainty due to their small size, but that is because that is only the very tip of their foot. In fact the fluff area is actually the entire foot with only the very end being visible. All wishwings walk on the small tip of the foot. This is due to the rest of the foot being unusually sensitive to any heavy weight or pressure. Which is why most opt to float just above the ground instead of walking despite having fairly developed leg muscles. A wishwing can run up to 40mph on their legs, but will almost never do so due to feeling a large amount of discomfort.

Wishwing ears come in many different shapes and sizes, however they all share the similar trait of two distinctive spikes that jut out from the base. The head ornament is always attached the the base spike located closest to the head. Despite being different materials, ones not naturally occurring in any known species, is grown directly from the ear. The most common and well researched variety is paper, there are a wide variety of other materials capable of being grown, some of which is highly sought after such as gold or silk.

Wishwing tails are long and silky in appearance. Their tails while often don't match their hair are made from the same material. The tails are most comparable with a horse, behaving almost identical. Every wishwing has at least one large bead they adorn. These beads are the secret to their power and are often thought of to be their lifeline. These beads are capable of storing the unique power of desire, fueling a wishwing and acting as their source of energy. This is also the power which allows them to fly and grant wishes. If the bead is removed the power drains from it and the wishwing is heavily weakened and incapable of flight. While a wishwing can live without their beads, instead supplementing their energy with food consumption, they often wither away and become depressed. Some wishwings have multiple beads in their tails, but only one actually functions and contains power. In the recent years some wishwings have taken to decorating their tails with accessories and even braiding them.

The most striking feature and what makes each wishwing really stand as an individual is their body markings. Each wishwing's body is heavily adorned with a myriad of colors, shapes, and patterns. So far no two wishwings have the same pattern, save for the incredibly rare occurrence of twins. A wishwing can have any amount of colors or patterns on their bodies, there has been no known restriction on designs. What exactly determines a wishwing's markings is unknown, but the culture and object they are born from seems to play a small role.

This is the limits of what we currently know about wishwings, but new information is always being researched and will be added to the records when it is fully understood.
