TERRAWINGS EXISTS OUTSIDE OF THE CANON WINGS OF FIRE SERIES

None of the events in the book have happened in this setting. Darkstalker never rose, the War of Sandwing Succession never occurred, and Pyrrhia and Pantala have not made contact with each other. Significant wars have happened (which Terrawings have not participated in), but at present the Pyrrhian tribes are at peace.

A lot of this information is not specific to Terrawings and are just my own personal Wings of Fire headcanons. Feel free to use these headcanons for your own stories!

DRAGON AGING + SIZE

canon? throw it out the window.

All dragons age at the same rate. For the first 50 or so years of their lives, dragons age the exact same as humans. This means that a 10-year-old dragon is at the same development stage physically, mentally, and emotionally as a 10-year-old human.

0 - 6 : Hatchlings. Able to move and perform limited communication, but are entirely dependent on their caretakers for survival.

7 - 19 : Dragonets. Adolescents that are learning to become independent from their caretakers. Able to keep up with adult dragons, but inexperienced. Dragonets start learning to fly at ~7 years old and enter puberty from 15-18 years old, after which they are sexually mature.

20 - 29 : Young adults. At this age, dragons are expected to become independent from their caretakers and live on their own.

30 - 120 : Adults. Physically and mentally mature.

120 - 200 : Seniors. A dragon stops growing and begins to slow down. Organ deterioration eventually leads to death.

A dragon's size is influenced by genetics and diet. Dragons that eat nutritious food often are going to become larger than dragons with a scarce or low-nutrition diet. All dragons grow continuously throughout their lives. Among Pyrrhian dragons, the difference in size between a young adult and a senior can be quite significant, with individuals doubling or even tripling in size. For Terrawings, this difference is not nearly as noticeable.

CURRENCY

Metal coins of varying sizes and values, called scales, are the standard form of currency for Pyrrhia. They are typically made of copper or nickel, but certain mints can make more elaborate scales. Scales are primarily used for large purchases, trading between Kingdoms, and by the royal families. For everyday life, dragons are more likely to barter using treasures and their own goods or services.

Coins will come stamped with the visage of the current ruling dragon. It is a longstanding practice with many uses. The coin is able to be tracked back to its home Kingdom and its age can be determined by the face of the ruler on it. New coins also support new rulers and create value in older coins for collectors, as old coins are often repurposed for the new ruler. The other side will often have the name and date for easier tracking, but it is a thrill for the public to discover how the new ruler will display themselves on their coins.
