Semi-Open Species is a definition that varies a bit from species to species but, in this case, means that you can make two characters for totally free (provided you claim the free slots), and then (save for Legendary MYOs and one of the Crossbreed MYOs) all other MYOs and Upgrades can be purchased using the in-species currency (which can be earned by doing species art)
