The clans of the valley have lived in peace for generations, growing and thriving in their own territories and far removed from the wars that plagued their ancestors. But nothing can last forever, StarClan is growing restless and movement deep in the ancient mountains warns that something is about to break.

When the original clans left the forest a single clan cat refused to give up his home and stayed behind in the nearby twolegplace. There he shared the true story of the clans with the cats of twolegplace and, wanting to rebuild what was lost, traveled across that twolegplace looking for land cats could live on. By the time he finally found a place though he was growing old and so the task of rebuilding was passed on to others. These new torch bearers gathered cats from the twolegplace and helped them connect with StarClan so that the new clans could share in the history of the old and eventually four clans were formed in the valley each with a unique guardian spirit that would continue to guide them down the right path.

However the fifth clan had a very different beginning, when the fifth clan was not initially reformed alongside the others SkyClan's guardian spirit took matters into his own paws. Feeling neglected by the other cats of StarClan he abandoned them and was reborn as a young kit with only scattered memories of his past. What he did remember led him to Leap and together they attempted to recreate the fifth clan within twolegplace itself but StarClan continually refused to recognize them or grant Leap her nine lives. Leap's deputy at the time grew impatient with this rejection and decided that if StarClan would not recognize them where they were they should take the valley from the other clans. Leap disagreed with him and in a rage he attacked her and took leadership of the clan, but as she lay dying StarClan finally answered the fifth clan's cry. With eight lives left and a clear sense of the danger her clan was in Leapstar faced her power hungry deputy again and this time she drove both him and his loyal followers out of the twolegplace and deep into the mountains. Night, their guardian spirit, never forgave the rest of StarClan for that mess though and he and many of LeapClan's departed cats continue to walk apart from the main bulk of StarClan.

These rogues driven from LeapClan (and later more from the other clans) tormented the valley clans for much of their early years after that but in time they retreated deeper into the mountains and became little more than myth. With peace in the valley finally all five clans slowly adapted to their homes and over time these adaptations became mutations that came to separate and define each clan.
