Part 1 - The Beginning

Once upon a time, there lived the goddess of the world, Danu. She created everything as now seen in the world, the grass, the trees, the sky and the sea, and even the creatures within. She ruled benevolently over the world, making sure everything stayed in line and everything remained so for the time being. She, however, found that ruling over every part of the world grew cumbersome and too great a task for just herself, so she created two beings to reside in the world to watch it in her place from the chalice of primordial soup that poured itself into the Great Divide. These two beings would come to be known as the god of the primordial forest, Cernunnos, and the god of the primordial mountains, Cerridwen.

Cernunnos felt a great love for his mother rise up within him as he grew from a little babe to a young adult. He wanted nothing more than to follow her wish to reside over the world and watch over it as if it was his own. He was treated with great kindness and care by Danu, teaching him the ways of the world and about those who lived within. He learned a lot from his time with her, even being gifted his own chalice of primordial soup that was attached to his tail, but grew disheartened when he found himself alone in the forest he decided to reside in. It was about time that life be sprung from him, via his chalice of primordial soup, but how would it be done? Would Danu even approve of what he was doing, creating life from himself? Surely she wouldn't mind, as he wasn't doing it for violent and malevolent purposes, and so, he began the search on how to create life from practically nothing. His search didn't lead him much of anywhere, as all he saw were two creatures creating life, not one. How would it be done, if at all? Then, he remembered, his chalice attached to his tail, the source of life that he had also sprung from, the primordial soup. That's how he would do it, but with what...?

Cerridwen, however, didn't share the same sentiments as her brother did about his mother. She felt as if her brother were pampered and babied by their mother, and held a great disliking towards them both. Once she was able to break away from their both, even after being gifted a chalice of primordial soup herself, she resided deep in the mountains away from them all and others, closing herself off from the world. She wanted nothing more than to disappear, but she also wanted to not be so alone...And so, it was her turn to spring forth life from her primordial chalice. She knew immediately on that the souls that resided around her would be perfect vessels for the soup from her chalice, but would Danu approve? Screw her, Cerridwen thought rebelliously, this is for all those times that she was neglected attention compared to Cernunnos. She went out on the search around the mountain for the perfect soul that would be her first vessel to be sent to cause havoc on the world...

Souls, they were everywhere, boundlessly wandering in the space between life and death. Cernunnos found them to be melancholic, reminding him of when he was nothing more than a babe in his mother's arms. He wanted nothing more to recreate that feeling for those reborn, and so, he took one of the wandering souls, melding them with the soup from his chalice, and created a little furry creature with ears and a tail, like the ones he had seen reside in the forest. They gazed up at him from his grasp, tilting its head with bewildered curiosity. Cernunnos' eyes sparkled with joy, his first being created from himself and the Great Divide, and it only took one being! Immediately he grew fond of the little creature, taking great care of it and teaching it the way of the world and protecting it from harm. However, something was missing, something about the creature seemed to be a little..dull. It seemed to lack one important thing, a chalice of its own.
There it was, a soul perfect for her first vessel. It was a small thing, probably a little being's soul. Cerridwen gently caressed it, smiling mischeviously as she guided it into the primordial soup in the chalice. The cup shined brilliantly, and out came a small, furry creature similar to the ones she had seen on the mountain. It gazed at her with curiosity, and began to shake as she cackled. However, once she realized it had scared the creature, she stopped. Her heart beat like she had never felt it to before, she had immediately grown fond of the creature, going great lengths to protect it and teach it about her world, but she found it to be terribly, well, weak. Fragile. It was missing something to bring it power, and that's when she knew, it needed a chalice of it's own.

Once the creature grew old enough to hold off on it's own, Cernunnos took it to the edge of the forest, where the humans had begun to reside. It gazed up at him, curious about what he wanted it to do. Cernunnos gazed down at it sadly, was this how Danu felt when he had left home? Surely they would be alright, they could always come back to him if they wanted to. He leaned down and gently caressed the creature's head, "Go on now, find your own chalice to call your own, fill it with things that give you power, that make you happy. Help protect others and the world around you, just as I have done with you..." It blinked for a moment, then smiled and nodded, turning off to the garden before it, bounding around with curiousity and intrigue. Cernunnos watched them go, turning away and going back into the forest, trying to hold back his tears and himself from calling back to it. Surely they'd be okay...surely...

Once Cerridwen was satisfied on teaching the creature the methods to protect itself from harm, she took it down to the bottom of the mountain on the edge of the Primordial Forest. She smirked devilishly, but looked down at the creature with slight sadness. She felt a twinge of regret that she had to say goodbye, but she would get payback for all the neglect she had endured. Cerridwen gently pet the creature's head, "Go on, find your own chalice, fill it with things that make you powerful, that fuel the fight against that wench. Wreck havoc among others and the world." It stood there for a moment, then slowly turned away, walking off into the forest with fear, but slight curiosity. Cerridwen watched them go, then turned away and bounded off back up the mountain before the creature could see the tears forming on her face. They'd be alright, they taught them well, after all.
