"Cash, be honest with me... Are you really having trouble with your memory?"
"History"
James and Ray, paternal half brothers, were both born to mothers of no particular renown and names lost to time, but an infamous father—Alexander Margaret (although whether that was his true name or a stage name is information also since lost to time). A popular magic showman accused of many thefts, but no one was ever able to truly prove he was the culprit. It was said Alexander would often catch glimpses of both the future and past, aiding in his heists and ability to escape conviction.
His only two children would inherit one ability each. James’ mother died shortly after his birth under mysterious circumstances, leaving James to Alexander. Ray’s mother was quick to pass Ray off as well—although she would live a few years longer. The three of them never grew particularly close. Eventually, Alexander’s luck would run short, and he was found murdered.
Roland, the detective tasked with investigating the murder, would later adopt James and Ray with his wife, Lena. Over time, the brothers would become closer, but their relationship would later become stifled as their inherited abilities manifested more clearly. Eventually, Roland would convince both of them to use these abilities to aid in detective work.
James received “Hindsight,” which grants him the ability to witness the final moments of the deceased upon coming in contact with their blood. For the most part, it is something James has control over.
"Personality"
Witty, and admired and adored by many for his smooth talking nature, James is generally kind and compassionate to a fault. He is best described as very mild in temperament---if not a bit of a stiff. A people pleaser by nature, he can socialize easily, but is just as easily pressured and prone to stress, although he does his best to cover up this fact by confidently playing everything off as minimal.
Beneath this, it is incredibly clear to anyone close to him that James has a tendency to be a more high-strung, easily embarrassed, worrywart---and his desire to be perceived as conventional comes at his own expense. People think he's smooth and cool, but he's really a hot mess. Polite and a little fragile, but would absolutely never say that. He's cool, after all. Easy to exasperate, he has a tendency to be more blunt, over dramatic, and snappy, but even this could be considered very mild in nature, and almost laughable, by some. In general, although he tries to hide this, he is often overwhelmed by his own emotions---both the negative and positive.
In private with Kelga, he feels the most comfortable being honest and direct with his feelings.
"Notes"
- He always refers to Kelga by his first name, Cash. He is generally the only person to do so.
- James swears, but typically does so more mildly and rarely uses anything "extreme."
- He almost always wears a pair of gloves. Primarily due to paranoia regarding his Hindsight, since it is activated by touch.
- He experiences hemophobia, and is incredibly distressed by blood and injury and prone to dizziness and fainting. He is incredibly embarrassed by this, but with Kelga and the special treatment he receives when being bitten, he describes it as somewhat thrilling and euphoric, which he finds even more embarrassing.... But at least Kelga thinks it's charming.
- How he wound up dating a vampire in the first place with his fear of blood is something people often question. He simply insists Kelga was just that charming.

"The Great and Depressing"
“Oh, for goodness sake!” James took several steps backwards and threw his hands over his eyes as if to keep himself from going blind from looking up at the light fixture. “They said it might be bad, they didn't say it would be a complete catastrophe.”
“It’s not so bad.” Kelga shrugged. “It’ll come back to me, I figure. And if it doesn’t, I can just figure everything out later, right?”
James whirled back forward to lean into Kelga again faster than either one of them could blink. “I suppose it’s very like you to feel that way, but yes. It’s bad, Cash.”
“Is this like me?” Kelga wondered aloud. “If it makes you feel any better, I did come back in here to try and figure things out.”
“Cash, do you have any idea how serious this is?”
“Nope. Sorry.”
At a complete loss for words, James stared back at Kelga, dumbfounded. Kelga smiled back at him in an attempt to ease the tension, but James’ frustration and anxiety were too busy working overtime to compensate for Kelga’s complete lack thereof. Maybe, Kelga wondered, he was possibly underreacting to the whole situation just a bit.
After being promptly ejected from the casino after a misunderstanding, Kelga later encounters Ray and James, the sons of the casino owners who appear to know Kelga. After a bout of conversation and confusion, James and Ray realize that Kelga isn’t joking around and genuinely can’t remember them.
James, alarmed and exasperated, pulls Kelga aside to inform him that his memory loss may have been intentionally “scrambled,” and that something supernatural is at play.
