Clothing Style

Ursula tended to dress in a well put together and modest style, usually opting for layered outfits and having a mature yet still cute style. She preferred jewel tones for her outfits, particularly blues, purples, and pinks. She tended to wear more skirts and dresses while going out in public, usually layering it with leggings and a coat in cooler weather or light cardigans in warmer weather. She never really wore high heels or any uncomfortable footwear, and she most often wore flats, boots, or booties with low heels. She also enjoyed wearing scarves and hats in cool/cold weather. She usually didn't wear much in terms of jewelry aside from her engagement ring and wedding band and sometimes necklaces or bracelets gifted to her by her husband, but she didn't go out of her way to buy new ones for herself. At home, her casual style usually consisted of leggings with T-shirts or sweaters and depending on the season, and she usually wore fuzzy socks or slippers. Her sleepwear varied depending on the season, but she'd often also wear a silk robe when wandering about the house at night.

Personality

Ursula was a kind and optimistic woman who came off as demure around strangers and bubbly around those close to her. She took each day at a time at her own pace, never really rushing about or forgetting to enjoy the simple joys in life. On the surface she could come off as a little airheaded, since it wasn't too difficult to entertain or impress her, but she was always a very responsible, resourceful, and sensible woman who knew how to take care of herself and anyone around her. Ursula could easily get overexcited about things that interested her and would often go overboard in preparing for events she was looking forward to. She was also very slow to anger and always tried to be patient with whatever situation she was put in. This could sometimes lead her to being somewhat passive in situations that she was overly patient with, but she was assertive enough to not allow herself to be walked over. Those closest with her would describe her as a rather simple little lady who was a little silly and quirky with her enthusiasm, but she was always mellow and mature enough to rely on for advice and support.

Backstory

Ursula was born in Germany and grew up beloved by her parents and two older siblings, Hanna and Oskar. Although she was very clever and could often take care of herself well, she was rather sheltered by her family, who treated her as the innocent little baby of the family. Ursula never minded much, and she was known by her peers while growing up as a kind and shy girl who became more bubbly as she warmed up to others. She lived in Germany all her life, learning various domestic skills and crafts along with learning to play the alto saxophone and later becoming a musician who joined a local indie band. The band often played small gigs at a cafe that Ursula also worked at as a barista during the day shift. She was rather content with her simple and relatively quiet life, although she sometimes hoped the band would grow over time and allow her opportunities to travel to new places/venues.

As a young adult, she had the opportunity to visit the United States to visit Oskar and Hanna, who had moved there years prior. During this vacation she got to see the sights of Washington DC, and she encountered a man named Matthias whom she was immediately enamored by. To her surprise, she encountered him again in Germany after she had returned home, and they spent a few years falling for each other before marrying. The two lived together in Ursula's small home in a quiet neighborhood, and they settled into a pleasant normalcy before Ursula became pregnant.

Unfortunately complications during childbirth ended up costing Ursula her life, leaving Matthias alone with their newborn son, Volkmar. She would never know the truth about her husband and his true background.

Trivia:

  • Ursula's name was partially taken from a list of female German names from a German class and partially inspired by the character of the same name from the George of the Jungle movie. Her gentle and somewhat silly personality along with her general appearance/demeanor are also somewhat based off this character.
  • It took a while to come up with Ursula's finalized design, and for a long while her only design notes were "looks very much alike to Volkmar, enough so that he often is told he looks so much like her" and "Zy considers himself blessed to have her and her magnificent booty and bust in his life."
    • Her initial design concept had her a little more slim like Volkmar's build, but she later was developed to be a little thicker. She was always going to be short though.
  • Ursula knew how to pronounce Matthias's name correctly, but she always used the German pronunciation instead and called him "Mattias." She was the only one that Zy allowed to call him that.
  • Ursula never found out that Matthias was a Rytilian, and she died before he could tell her and before she could observe Volkmar developing any reptilian features.
  • Apparently when they were first dating, an inside joke involving how much Matthias "liked" snakes led to Ursula giving him the petname "meine süße Schlange," which translates to "my sweet snake." She meant this entirely literally, and Matthias never minded when she called him that, but he found it hard to explain to anyone else who heard the nickname that it wasn't a euphemism.
  • Apparently on one of their earlier dates, they went out to dinner and Matthias swallowed an entire cut of Schnitzel in one gulp. He has no idea why he did that and claims he “just forgot that utensils exist,” and he’s flabbergasted that Ursula didn’t take that as a red flag.
    • Ursula was just astonished he managed to do that without choking and dying. She later told her brother in amazement “how good Matthias is at swallowing.” Matthias is still mortified to this day, and Oskar has never let that one go.
  • I like to imagine that Ursula meets Riley somewhere in the Last Lands, and they become close friends while chatting about their lives and going out for drinks at Galaxia Soul. Just some lovely serendipity for their living children to meet and grow close without them knowing about it.
