King Balthazar

The third generation of the frog king fairy tale and current king.
A kind, old king whose life revolves around his True Love.

When the heir to the throne comes of age, they are turned into a frog and sent into the world to find their True Love. Only a kiss from them will break the spell, and the heir can rightfully return home to claim the throne with someone worthy of staying by their side.
That was the tradition followed by the kingdom for centuries without question. That is, until Balthazar was born. He had always had his suspicions about tradition from the very start, but he couldn't argue that his parents had been truly loving and meant for each other. Perhaps it was just his fear of having to be exiled and not even be human...
Turned into a frog, Balthazar tried very hard to get noticed and get a kiss from his potential lover. But people passed by, and those that did look to him only wanted to take pictures and videos on their strange devices. Days turned into months, and months to years, years to decades. Before he knew it, he was in his fifties, and was heavily convinced he would never become human again. That is, until a wandering man tripped, his lips touching the frog on his way down. By Fate's own divine hand did the curse break, and Balthazar could return to his kingdom.
Even when he was a frog had he made sure to keep track of the current affairs of his land. His parents had passed, both suspiciously by a heart attack. The only person left to rule was Earle, the first Frog King. That suspicious feeling Balthazar had as a child returned, and now that he was human again could he pursue the issue.
His suspicions were right. His grandfather had killed his parents so he could remain on the throne, and the "tradition" was a curse he used to his advantage. Balthazar confronted him, exposing his scandals to the kingdom and exiled him. Now he has taken the throne and rules happily with his true love, spending nearly every waking moment of his life adoring and cherishing him.

Notes: I had wanted to do a little spin on the True Love factor in fairytales, and I liked the Frog Prince's story. My original thought was: what if someone kissed the frog but wasn't the true love? Bal was originally going to be an old man stuck in a teen's body because the curse wasn't properly broken, but then I decided to give him a proper revamp, and he's just an old man now. He's perhaps the sweetest, most loving character I have, too. He's an utter romantic and gushes about how much he loves who he's with, so you can imagine the popularity he had when I first made him! But he's such a sweetheart teddy bear, I love him!

Personality: Devoted and fatherly, Balthazar wants what's best for his kingdom and wants them to know that he cares deeply. That said, he's not afraid of being strict and firm. He carries an air of confidence and elegance with every step in his stride.
However, around his lover he's completely and utterly whipped. A romantic, Balthazar will do anything in his power to make his lover happy and will absolutely do whatever he wants. He wouldn't even think twice about surrendering in the middle of a war if his lover asked him to.
On the same note, he is clingy and incredibly jealous. He won't scold his lover, but he will try to intimidate anyone who flirts with him. You can find him staring them down almost all day.

Non-Human Abilities:
Animals - He can talk to animals.
Magic - For the most part, Bal can turn people into frogs or turn frogs into people. These can either be fixed by a kiss from their true love or by Bal reversing the magic. He can also manipulate objects into moving around.

Drawing Details: Dresses usually in formal wear with a green color scheme. Doesn't display too much of an emotion; either has a small smile or a thin frown. Sometimes carries a cane around.

Fun/Extra Facts:

- His kingdom has invisible borders, meaning it's not shown on a map and doesn't appear to exist to humans, but non-humans know well about it. His kingdom lies in Germany, and the royalty there serves as magical representatives for that country. Its name is Anthea.

- Usually when Bal conjures up frogs, it's to throw them at people he doesn't like.

- He's incredibly bad with technology. You can see him struggling daily with figuring out touch screens (half the time he's poking devices that aren't touch screens).

- Can speak Dutch, German, French, and English.

- Because magic runs through his veins, Bal ages slower than the average human. His family's lifespan is typically 150 years.

- Is vaguely aware his grandfather is still around, but is unaware of his newfound powers.

- Doesn't like seeing people mess with frogs or toads for amusement.

- If a frog makes a human-like sound, like a screech or a whimper, then it's quite possible that is a human that's been turned into a frog.

- It's very rare to see, but sometimes Bal can turn other animals into frogs too.

- You will get the fastest, hardest smack to the face if you eat frogs legs around him.

- Green hair is a family trait! The only reason Earle doesn't have it is because it changed when he sold his soul.
