King Balthazar's Links
[Related] Bal is Earle's grandson, though he hardly considers him family. He doesn't trust him, never has, and once he found proof of the wizard killing his parents, he did everything in his power to remove him not only from the throne but the entire kingdom. He knows Earle will return someday, and can only hope he'll be ready for it.
[Related] Earle is Bal's grandfather. Earle never planned for his son to come back to the kingdom, let alone have a child, so he did everything he could to keep them away from the throne. He waited for Bal to be old enough before turning him into a frog and sending him out into the world, and as he was gone, Earle got rid of Bal's parents. Things were fine for many years until Balthazar returned and exposed his crimes.
What he doesn't know is that Earle is much stronger now, and he's eager to come back and take the throne. By force.
Dudley's worked for the royal family for quite some time now. Balthazar keeps him around but doesn't make him do much. He doesn't have the heart to fire someone so optimistic, but dear God can Dudley be foolhardy sometimes.
Dudley loves working for the royal family! They helped teach him human basics when he first got his powers, after all! Balthazar is definitely much different from Earle, but they're the same at the same time! Like... they both tell him not to work so much! Aren't they the nicest?
Of course, Dudley's loyal to Earle, and the only reason he still works under Balthazar is so that he can monitor him and report to Earle.
[True Love] "He's perfection embodied. Every breath I take is so I can sigh over how beautiful he is. I am only a jester compared to this god of a man and everyday I am blessed to have an angel beside me."
"I believe this is the term, "soy gay"."
After falling face flat and unfortunately kissing a frog, he never expected his life to turn around completely. After the frog's transformation, Revere simply wanted to take advantage of this "King" just for a night or two but after those days, the man never left his side. He finds him annoying and utterly clingy - as well as trying to attempt in trying to run away from him... but he practically could NOT. However he admires Balthazar's... obsession and his infatuation over him, reminiscing the days of his first love.
He cannot admit his love to this King, neither deny the fact that he DOESN'T love him - Revere continues to stay with him just for both of their happiness. Revere never believed that he wouldn't fall in love with another man, but one day the duelist will realize that he'd find his love towards the gallant King at some point in his life.
"This so-called KING has a horrible fashion statement; just look at all that Green? It's almost disgusting- Why would I even fall in love with a man like-
I DIDN'T SAY YOU CAN TOUCH HIM. DON'T TOUCH HIM OR ELSE I'LL CUT YOU IN HALF."
Bal always knew Litari had an heir to the throne. After all, you don't rule a kingdom and not attempt to have an heir for years. He was surprised, though, when the king and queen's life ended quickly, and that their missing son returned shortly after. He finds it suspiciously well-timed, but he has to admit that Roy seems to be good-hearted, if not a little naive. He knows the boy is trustworthy and looks forward to building an alliance with his kingdom.
Litari being Italy and Anthea Germany, the two kingdoms are relatively close to each other. The two kings are kind and understanding of each other. Although Roy isn't entirely sure what it's like to be a frog, he definitely sympathizes with not being able to be on the throne for years. He judges Bal to be a strong leader with good intentions, and looks forward to building a strong alliance with him.
"I'm already in love with someone, thank you."
"This is my frog king husband."
Bal was pleased when his magic had worked, but he wasn't entirely satisfied. Surely there would be a side effect, so he kept Morpho close. He's not quite sure if the man is capable of being a retainer, but he admits Morpho is dedicated.
Morpho owes his life to the king! If it weren't for Balthazar he wouldn't exist, after all. He works under the king, serving as a retainer for his future heirs.
Mr. Shrimp was the first animal Balthazar had experimented on. He wasn't sure how to feel about the results, but at least Mr. Shrimp was taking it well. The king has to admit, that decapod can COOK.
Mr. Shrimp owes Balthazar everything! He gladly works as his chef, grateful for an opportunity to pursue his dreams. However, sometimes he wishes the king would try to make him human again. What he'd give for a chance to eat these dishes.
Having seen a poor, weakened manatee washed up on the shore, Balthazar decided to give him a second chance by turning him human and thus making it easier to get him help. Once Hugh was well enough, the king offered him a chance to stay a human and work as a retainer. He sees much honor and loyalty in Hugh and thinks he fits the role of protector perfectly.
Hugh owes his life to King Balthazar. If it wasn't for his intervention, Hugh wouldn't even be here, let alone living the life that he has now. And there's no amount of thanks that Hugh can give for that kindness. Above all else, his priority now is to protect him and return what he gave to him on that day.
Balthazar doesn't talk to Heinrich very often, but there is definitely a strong bond between the two. He values the butler's opinions and treats him as a close friend. He finds his explosions at the staff more amusing than anything.
Heinrich took care of the king even when he was a mere baby. He's developed a strong bond with him and wants to make sure he's okay with anything. However, the only thing Heinrich will ever protest about the king is his True Love. He'd much rather Balthazar walk down Earle's path than allow someone so conceited as Revere take the throne.
[Related] The whole family tree is a mess, honestly.
[Related] Roy always loved frogs, so she guesses it makes sense to be related to the Frog King. Again, this was just something she thought as a fairytale, not a real thing.
[Related] Balthazar adores his son and believes he'll become a great leader. He finds his fear to be just a phase, and that it's good to be that worried and dedicated to the job.
[Related] His father is a very strong and smart man! Balthazar is always calm and able to take in the situations around him, he's not scared of anything! Hopper hopes someday to be as brave as him!
It's very rare for Balthazar to find someone so caring towards animals, especially frogs. He likes Marco and thinks he's a good person. Anyone with such a kind heart is welcomed in his home, and just maybe he'll try to get Marco to be his son-in-law.
Meeting Balthazar was probably the biggest blessing Marco had ever received in his life. Did you expect him to meet an actual frog king, in his frog kingdom, in his castle sheltering stray frogs and NOT absolutely lose his mind?
Of course, Balthazar being a frog isn't the only thing that makes Marco very fond of him-- No, who am I kidding? The fact that the king is so fatherly helps a lot, but he'd simp for him even if he was an asshole.
