"Do you have any memories you hold dear to you of your... former friend? When did you first realize your feelings towards him? And... as painful as it must be for you, have you ever considered trying to move on? To forgive?"

Edit: Oh boy, this answer might take a while I think you're really making him think. (His black and white, good vs evil viewpoint is such a big thing for him, he lives by it, so this'll be fun.) Edit 2: There's going to be a lot more internal monologue than external dialogue so be prepared. Thanks for the fun question! (PS: He's still thinking about this even now, he's not even 100% sure on his answer.)

“That's... very specific.” Was this... something he'd personally experienced before? “I'll start with this: no matter the circumstance, killing should be avoided. That should be an absolute last resort... However...” There was a pause. Who was the worse one in that situation? Both resulted in suffering, both resulted in crime, and both possibly resulted in death. To him, evil was cruel, merciless, and someone who had only the worst of intentions, committing such gruesome crimes without the slightest hint of regret or any desire to repent. Kidnapping, human experiments, and torture? The thought of someone having to suffer through that, day in, day out, the very thought of it made him sick. No... whoever this tormentor was, how could he call him anything other than evil? Yet, to rid the world of such a villain, his life had to be taken. With arson... Kit knew it had to have been a slow death. Were there others who died in the process as well? Or was it just the tormentor? He wanted to say that killing someone was evil, wrong, no matter what, well, he did already say that it should be avoided no matter the circumstance... no taking that back. He still believed that, but, if they had no other choice, if the only option they had was to sit there and wait for help that would never come... “... However... if the act was done with the best of intentions, if there was nothing else that could be done, if the death of one man could save the lives of so many others... I can only say... it's understandable. I still don't condone such an action, but... sometimes, like in many stories, the villain must die. I would prefer if said tormentor could be tried under the law, but it sounds like circumstances would never allow for that. Of course, if not just the single man died in the fire, and innocent lives were lost... then... I honestly don't know what would have been worse... Innocent lives would be hurt either way, this... I suppose is what they'd call a gray zone?” Not that he could understand it in the first place... Both actions were evil in that case, neither should have been done.
“As for the victim...” There was another pause. Someone completely changed by the experiments, an empty shell of one who once held their own individual personality and felt emotions like any other... now nothing. They didn't even have any sort of thought anymore? No, could you call that a person anymore? Is this what this tormentor had done to someone? It seems he wasn't wrong in his assumption that this man was evil... “A... tough decision, depending on if you're close to the person or not... If all is lost for good, if there's no chance of them ever regaining these things... Maybe, it would be best to give them a merciful death... The thought is truly horrible, the idea of someone simply rotting away until there is not a single breath left... I can't say what is truly the better option, and I don't think I myself could bring myself to do even that for someone. But that's unfortunately the best solution I could come up with.”
