info/plans:

• orphan ursuki kid
  • still figuring out the story for how this happened
    • both parents are definitely dead though
      • perhaps one parent perished from illness that developed sometime after Knife was planted, but before she was born
        • the other parent died after Knife sprouted 
          • they died protecting Knife from /something/ during Skyfall
  • she was found by a pouflon knight who took her back to Chrysanthos City with them and was placed into a nursery to be cared for
    • she was around the ursuki age equivalent of a 3 year old human
    • at the time, there was a lot of chaos going on and the nursery was understaffed, so Knife kinda got neglected a bit after ending up at the nursery and not much effort was made into looking for relatives or figuring out who exactly she was.
    • she wasn't sent to an ursuki village due to her already being really stressed from all the Trauma and also having settled into where she was
      • they also literally just asked if she'd like to go to an ursuki village and she didn't want to
      • as for her home prior to the Events, it actually ended up being destroyed enough to be deemed uninhabitable 
        • Knife also didn't know where her home even was when asked (tbh it probs was hidden via illusion placed by her parent)
    • was considered under custody of the kingdom, unless she got adopted
      • (spoilers: this never happens)
• she named herself
  • they asked her what her name was and what came out of her toddler vocal cords sounded a lot like Knife Shotgun
    • they asked her repeatedly and she kept saying that and so it was deemed to actually be her name and they just wrote that down
• very much a traumatized kid lol
  • fortunately got a lot of good support and was able to heal. mostly.
• she's a pretty well behaved kid
  • the caretaker who tended the most to her was a very well mannered noble who was excellent with kids
    • the caretaker had an ursuki parent, which was why Knife was assigned to them
  • she's that chill Good Kid that every adult likes
• very curious and questions everything to the point of it almost being annoying lol
• shy and scares easily
  • she's usually initially Scared of most adults especially, with the exception of most caretakers around the nursery
  • good with other kids though! she plays well with everyone
• a pretty precocious kid
  • learns things faster than most of her peers
  • uses a lot of Big Words for a kid
  • the caretakers think she'd excel in whatever she decides to pursue when she grows up
• possible grown up plans???
  • maybe knight??? her motivation being that she looked up to the pouflon knight who saved her and her parent was also a fighter
    • she wants to help and protect others too
  • flower knight aesthetic
    • flowers would be based on radish blossoms
    • maybe also another type of flower that was associated with her parent?
      • maybe her parent was an ursuki with a flower tail and/or wings. their flowers is one of the few things Knife remembers about their appearance.
  • wears a cape (or maybe cloak?) that had belonged to their parent before their death
    • Knife was found covered in this
    • due to how big it is, Knife used it as a blanket for a long time after she was moved to the nursery
      • for the longest time it went unwashed. it only got washed once it just really stopped smelling like their parent and it got /too/ dirty
    • Knife wears it in memory of her parent
  • maybe gets natural communion?
    • perhaps at some point she ends up back to where she had originally sprouted, and talks to the trees around her
      • and the trees told her stories of her parents
        •  from how they watched them pick a spot to plant, the illness that slowly took the life of one away, the mourning, (the trees cried too, that day), the promise and determination of the other to watch over the sprout and give it all the love they can, until their own death.
        • (whatever illness took their parent's life caused them to not leave behind wings and reborn into a plant, and so Knife was unable to speak with them)
    • maybe she also returns to the area where her other parent was killed
      • and the trees there tell her of what exactly happened that day, and that they're relieved to see that she ended up safe and grew up well
        • (and this parent died a premature death and body tbh probably got like, messed up to point where it was not able to be reborn into plants. and so Knife was unable to speak with them too)
• relationships:
  • Caretaker: Knife's primary caretaker at the nursery. Has a strong relationship with them, as they essentially become like a parent to Knife.
  • Cardy: Cardy is friends with Knife's caretaker and got to meet Knife through them. Knife likes her and Cardy treats her as like a niece of sorts. 
    • The nursery kiddos would occasionally encounter her around the area while out and playing and, unless she was too busy, Cardy would make the effort to play with them for a bit
      • Knife and other kids would get taken to Cardy's racing competitions for support and as a fun field trip
    • Once Knife grows up to be a knight they would get closer as Knife ends up doing some work being a bodyguard for royal messengers, Cardy included
      • while royal messengers are capable of protecting themselves, on particularly important deliveries a knight escort may be assigned for increased security in case the messenger is in danger of being targeted
  • Solo: As Solo is Cardy's friend, Knife would eventually get to meet her. Solo likes to hang with the nursery kiddos and often takes them on educational field trips where she teaches them about flora and fauna.
    • Solo also uses the kiddos for free labor and gets them to pick potion ingredients for her lol
    • During her knight training Knife also got some magic advice from Solo
    • Once Knife is grown she would end up being a frequent customer of Solo, often buying her energy potions
      • Knife would also take the various knight jobs Solo would occasionally post
        • these jobs span from simple ingredient gathering, hunting monsters for parts, to being a guinea pig for experimental potions (willing ursukis are hard to come by!)
  • LaCroix: Knife is aware of who he is since he's a pretty popular idol. Neither a fan or hater of his music.
    • she was surprised as hell to learn Cardy and Solo both know the dude personally lol
    • has probably met him a few times but no real relationship

design notes:

• she got some big ol' eyes, so when drawing her keep in mind the proportion of eye to head!
  • white with black pupils
  • think owl eyes!
• anatomy is more like a raccoon than bear
  • a raccoon but with cat paws, basically
• hair is stylized as just one big tuft!
  • specifically, I based the single hair tuft design on the sad baby warning logo (or sad onion, for any Ashens fans out there)
  • also this tuft, along with the cheek/ear tufts, and the whiskers are meant to be reminiscent of the ends of a korean radish!
• she is small! idk how big ursukis are but she's considered smaller than the average ursuki
