One of the most important tools in a good businessman's toolbox is charisma. Jagari knows firsthand what playing to someone's personality will do for him--hell, he's made it an art to quickly pick apart what makes someone tick and use it to his advantage. Thankfully he only sometimes uses it for evil; it's as much fun to simply toy with someone or pull them along for a good time. Even those who find him obnoxious can usually still think of something to like. He puts a lot of care into the various facades he constructs, but what's consistent underneath it all is a strong love for the finer things in life and injecting some fun into the ol' work-life balance.

Like any good Modesa, he bears the heavy weight of responsibility with pride, having played the role of CEO for an in-family shipping company for the last 13 years. He's practically made for the role (even if he finds all the tables and numbers pretty dull) and has quickly made a name for himself in the industry. Despite the many hours he has to put in at the office, when Jagari does get some time off work, he spends it lavishly. He's a skilled sailor and his beloved boat is his baby; but solo endeavours aren't nearly as fun as finding some pretty new thing to make up for the rather unexciting world of ledgers and manifests he's found himself in.

Born to the Dula Dula branch of the Modesa family tree, Jagari is as eccentric as the rest of his family. He came up in a rather impersonal household where unabridged criticism was king; but rather than taking after his over-stressed parents, he figured out that maybe, just maybe, honey was more effective than vinegar, and has been learning the art of charming others ever since. His sometimes silly or exaggerated friendliness has worked well for him so far, even helping him find his footing as a lawer; he'd spend his early twenties spinning tales to the jury in his client's favour, never forgetting to take extensive notes after the fact to better his craft.

It was the expectation of everyone around him that Jagari become a high-end lawyer for any seedy entity that could afford him. So when he suddenly dropped out of his firm without a word and took off for Seajewel in a matter of days, rumours fast began to spread. There was talk of crime, unearthed lies, hidden accounts--but as he resurfaced down south along the coast, Jagari turned out to be settling into the Modesa Shipping Fleet's headquarters, looking awfully cozy in the executive suite. He'd somehow managed to score the role after his relatives grew tired of cousin Gevaun refusing to step up to his corporate birthright, although some whispers of a sacrifice made in the process would swirl about (interesting how a competing family dynasty suddenly fell off the map, isn't it?). Members of the company itself were hesitant at best to see such a young guy leap directly into chief executive officer. But Jagari was a natural, and dissent would settle (or be crushed) as the company entered a new era.

It's been thirteen years since then, and the whole ordeal was chalked up to another Modesa quirk. Jagari's become quite comfortable in his exorbitant wealth, living alone in a sizeable mansion he has no illusions about ever filling (living with rooms of dustcloth-draped furniture is worth it for that sick pool). He spends his endless money and precious free time socializing, always off on a new excursion with some pretty new thing to try and wring some fun out between the waves of ledgers and manifests he has to wade through at work. Perhaps the only thing money can't buy is sincerity in the company he keeps--but ever since he accepted that, life has been a breeze.

design
  • heterochromia--one off-white iris, one blue-black. white sclera.
  • perky ears that don't emote much.
  • long claws--he keeps them filed, but still manages to scratch up his water bottle, wallet, etc.
  • prominent fangs with the bottom two jutting out somewhat.
  • bead is translucent, with small glowing blue dots/lines.
  • has a dense, wavy mane that mostly stays braided along his back. otherwise, shirts are hardly comfortable.

character
  • loves to sail; keeps a small boat named the Tide Past, his baby.
  • finds theatre to be painfully dull. no situation is harder for him to pretend to like.
  • has a variety of pet names for those he's close to (or just more personal with).
  • enjoys a good fight.

  fascination Tegan
The latest in a long line of accompaniments; they're always more than arm candy, but Tegan seems special. Flowers from a J. often make their way to Tegan's dressing room.
  "niece" Shay
Technically they're first-cousins-once-removed, but it's easier to call him uncle. No other family member is particularly willing to look after the girl, given her reputation for an .... excessive aura.
  cousin Gevaun
You could say Jagari is grateful for Gevaun and his reluctance. Gevaun, for his part, has little patience nor love for his cousin's "charms", but circumstance keeps them in contact one way or another.
  cousin Jex
A favourite victim at family reunions, with buttons that are just so easy to push. Fistfights on the front lawn are a favourite pastime, at least on Jagari's end. What, glider got your tongue?
