Cloudseeker

Background

This absent-minded barn cat isn't particularly good at mousing. He has other things on his mind: namely, the otherworldly beings who he believes communicate with him from the stars.

After the sudden mass of cats in Patchpelt Thicket after the arrival of Charlie, Celeryseed, Gravel, Delilah, and her kits, Celeryseed led a patrol to the neighboring barn cats to ask permission to hunt on their land. The closest barn cat, Mouser Mack, declined, (politely) but he did point the warriors to his younger brother Tommy Head-in-the-Clouds, who cared little for his mousing duties. Tommy immediately agreed to give up his territory, but when he accompanied the patrol home, they found that they had recruited an abysmal warrior with a fascinating insight into omens and the supernatural.

"I knowwa cat who can help y'all. Not too interested in keepin' the mice away. He might have huntin' ground to spare. Lil' Tommy Head-in-the-Clouds. Ask around down the way and tell em that his big bro Mack sent ya. They'll fetch him down for ya."

"Fetch him down?" But sure enough, the spotted white cat was perched at the apex of the barn, gazing out into the distance.

What Happened on Moon Ridge

Tommy Head-in-the-Clouds was the first to discover the mysterious crop circles that wax and wane in a reversed image of the moon. One dark New Moon, Tommy led Celeryseed and Cherviltail to a ridge at the far reaches of the known territory, and together they were the first cats to visit StarClan's hunting grounds in many generations. After returning from this otherworldly experience, each of the three young cats would assume the mantle of leadership in StoneClan: Cherviltail and Cloudseeker as twin Medicine Cats, Herbalist and Oracle, and Celeryseed as one-life Leader. Nobody else would quite understand the things that they had seen that starless night.

Relationships

Mouser Mack is Tommy's oldest brother. Tommy doesn't particularly care about the family tradition of barn mousing that Mack upholds, but his brother doesn't begrudge him for having different interests, whatever they are.

Hutch is Tommy's middle brother. Hutch lives farther away than Mack, and Tommy rarely sees him.

The Star-Beings are out there, somewhere. Tommy can hear them calling.

Trivia

• Cloudseeker is not cis. Barn cats don't have the words for other genders, but Tommy leaned masculine while aligning closely with a feeling of alien otherness. He uses he/him pronouns, though, and terms like "boy" are fine. In his own words: "Not quite a tom, that's little Tommy. Not a molly neither. Something... Else." His eyes unfocus for a moment and he nods up to the stars.
• Cloudseeker had a visit to the vet for a minor injury on his hind leg, which is where he acquired his cone. He has long since healed, but he says the cone helps him hear the Star-Beings. It makes it more difficult to groom himself and hunt, but Cloudseeker never had much interest in things like that, anyway.
• Cloudseeker's Medicine Cat role as Oracle involves as much of his supernatural prescience as he is able to master. He leaves medicine and healing to Cherviltail, but his connection with the spirits is surpassed only by his disconnect with flesh-and-blood warrior affairs.
