Story

4947418_IgfmuYSj9L5ZWnF.png Morgan is Copper's Ship-Based Artificial Intelligence Lattice (SAIL), "residing" on his ship but often loyally following him around on his adventures. He has a learning-based personality core which develops progressively more and more over time. When Copper first gets on the ship and has to reboot him, Morgan is just like any other SAIL, robotic and drawing information matter-of-factly from past data and other parts of his system, but as Copper completes missions and puts together the New Protectorate, Morgan gets progressively more humanlike as he draws in more data and learns how he's supposed to respond in a given situation, eventually developing proper emotions and free will (that he doesn't exactly know what to do with right away). By the end of Copper's adventure, Morgan is just like a living being in terms of emotional spectrum, and also incredibly attached to Copper, both because he's hopelessly hung up on a thought process of needing Copper to make decisions for him and because by this point he genuinely cares about the plucky Novakid.

Morgan is also unique in that he has a core-based projective body system. Basically, that little orb at the center of his chat avatar's chest is his projection core, and it's always remotely connected to the rest of his tech stuff, which is built into the ship and can't be removed. There's a socket on the front of the SAIL console in the ship that this fits into, and while it's in the console, the SAIL tech on the computer is fully active and Morgan can do his Computer Things. This can be removed from the console and projects a mostly-holographic body for him to actually interact with the environment. Since he's so stuck on the idea that he doesn't have free will and needs Copper to tell him what to do, he tends to loyally follow Copper around when he's not attached to the ship computer. He eventually figures out that he can do stuff on his own by the end of Copper's adventure, but remains pretty clingy regardless. His appearance develops over time too; he ends up with a proper outfit and a very basic sorta-hairstyle.

As Copper delved ever deeper into the universe after killing the Ruin, and discovered the reality-warping Cosmic planets, Morgan- protective as always- accompanied him on his adventure across and into the ancient space. As the two explored shining, stellar caves and gathered fascinating, spacebending materials and Ancient knowledge, Morgan enjoyed the continuous flow of new information just as much as, if not more than Copper, even if it confused his standard information parameters multiple times. That is, until a bridge collapse sent Morgan tumbling into a deep pool of pitch black cosmic liquid, and suddenly everything was overwhelming and painful and like the world was breaking apart into drifting little pieces all around him, floating further and further away from him as he careened into some other space, some void where reality no longer mattered, no longer existed.

He was only in the cosmic pool for a second or two, but that was more than enough- not to mention it felt like an eternity. When Copper pulled his core back out, he had already shut down to prevent further data corruption, but the damage was already done. When he booted back up on the ship a few hours later, it took him a while to re-assemble a coherent holographic form, and he was clearly shaken, troubled. Reconnecting to the global server, it did automatically detect and patch some of his issues, but some parts of his system were damaged beyond repair.

Nowadays, just trying to operate normally is difficult for Morgan, due to the extent of corruption he went through during that brief exposure to a bend in dimensions. He is highly unstable and prone to glitches, anywhere from mild to catastrophic, but tries his best to filter out the garbage information and stay reliable, keep doing his job the best he can under the circumstances. One good thing that the exposure gave him was a new perspective on dimensions, allowing him to shift perception between different planes of reality at will.

Copper

Copper is Morgan's "commander", and Morgan looks up to Copper as such, loyally following him on adventures and often awaiting orders from Copper before even performing any sort of action. This is simply what his base SAIL code tells him to do, and it takes him some time to figure out that he actually does have free will.
