Profile

The protagonist of our story!!

She awoke one day in the futuristic city of Lotus with no memories whatsoever - not where she came from, who she was, or even her own name. She chose the name "Echidna" based on a tattoo she found located on her back and neck.

Echidna is extremely moody, and is particularly prone to anger and lashing out at others. She's frustrated with her situation and finds being surrounded by all these weird, alien-looking people very tiring. She is impatient and not good at sitting still and thinking of solutions to problems - she prefers to solve them by running at them head-on and beating them into submission. Others usually find her intimidating.

In reality, she's very depressed and alone, seeking some thread of hope in her situation. Even though she'd never admit it, she wants someone to lean on in all of this. She can't stand to see others suffer, especially at someone else's hands.

general information about the city

The city is named Lotus, according to those who remember - a group that becomes smaller and smaller by the day. It appears to have once been a fantastical island landscape filled with towering skyscrapers, arching bridges of gold and brass, and a menagerie of colorful citizens. But one day, the people of Lotus woke up to find their city in ruins, if they woke up at all. For an enormous percentage of the city's population disappeared without a trace overnight, and a decent portion of the city itself, as well - buildings appeared to have been chopped in half or gnawed at, missing enormous pieces in inexplicable places, with debris nowhere to be found. There were great sinkholes opened up in the ground, and entire chunks of land missing. What's more, the citizens that did survive the incident came to a disturbing realization very soon: their memories were in tatters as much as the city. For some of them, it was as simple as not remembering how they moved to the city or where they were born - for others, it was as intense as not even remembering their own name. But all of them, to a man, cannot remember anything about the history of Lotus, nor anything about the very world they exist in. They know that it wasn't always this way - that it used to be normal - that there's something more. But what, they don't know.

Travel outside the island is limited to a single high-speed train, which comes several times a day, rocketing off across the ocean towards the horizon on a thin bronze rail. Where it goes is unknown. Nobody who boards the train has ever come back. Some theorize that it leads to another land, and that those who leave the destroyed city have no reason to return. But most assume that the riders are dead. The train has no conductors, and seems entirely automated. These factors have lead to the platform and train being called Dead Station.

Lotus is large enough to sustain itself, thankfully. It has a few farms still being maintained by various volunteers (if the original owners have disappeared) and the city itself was clearly built to exist in tandem with nature, rather than fighting against it. Plants and animals can be found all over the city; parks and natural spaces are intertwined with the architecture, where it still exists.
