MUCH OF THIS INFORMATION IS NOT CLEAR, AS APPROPRIATE SECTIONS HAVEN'T BEEN MADE YET. WIP WIP WIP

"...and from the soil of Eraden and his own furious light he shaped Variga, to be eternal and serve him forever..."

Birth from necessity
Unlike other Calamities, who are always created by their Voids, Variga was was created from a fragment of the Calamity Belgrath, master of Eraden. This means that she only has dominion over Eraden itself, unlike Belgrath, who controls a few other planets as well(though none have life as advanced as Eraden). Variga is very young compared to other Calamities, despite being alive for eons herself.

Devourer of Souls
With time the population of Eraden grew, and life slowly infected all corners of the planet. In order to appease his mother Void, Belgrath created Variga to more efficiently lead souls through the life-death cycle(more on this cycle in the section about the Calamities). From up-close Variga can decide if a soul is to be reincarnated. With each cycle the soul deteriorates, and in the final  cycle it can only give way to absolute evil and monstrosity. Variga can choose if a soul should be devoured and subsequently destroyed, or allowed to continue the cycle. Not all souls are made to be the same quality, some can witstand only a few cycles while other's can go through many more. A few rare souls can be indefinitely recycled and never 'rot'. Souls of the Calamities do not die but can 'rot' if their actions are not just and serve their  dominion.

The Moon rises from the North
After spending millennia following the advancements of the First Nameless, Variga was distraught to hear that their time was coming to an end. As an act of defiance against Belgrath and other Calamities, she chose to protect the Heavensfield Archive from Heavenfall, allowing all of the knowledge the Nameless gathered to survive.

Variga's trials
After leading ten thousand souls through ten thousand cycles of life and death, Variga was finally allowed to create her own life. In order to fill an at the time empty niche, she created
Syllks. These trials made her question the motives of Belgrath and other Calamities, as well as her place in the universe.

Reaching the stars
As Belgrath's grasp on Eraden fades due to his rotten leadership, so does Variga's. In order to overthrow him as the Calamity of Eraden and other planets under his grasp, Variga must once again reclaim her material form in order to regain the connection to the planet and return to her former glory. As a backup plan, ages ago Belgrath created a few 'undying' souls which cannot be destroyed through the reincarnation process. Possessing the body this type of soul inhabits assures that the body will not be destroyed by the Calamity's overwhelming spirit. Variga intentionally destroyed the first soul of this kind and has now located another one, contained within a child named Andomeda. Using Andromeda to travel back North and reclaim her true material form, Variga plans on destroying Belgrath's spirit and taking his place.

Agrabath vs Variga

Two names for the same entity. In the south of the Eraden continent Variga is known as Agrabath and is believed to be a trickster deity of death and mockery, and the opposite of the wise and kind Sun Serpent Belgrath(More about their depictions in Eraden religions--coming soon). In the north Variga is depicted as the mother of all Syllks and a Moon deity who judges who goes on to live in paradise and who is sent to the equivalent of hell. Neither religious viewpoint encompasses her entire personality or purpose. Variga wasn't a fan of either depiction, and worked hard to change her image in the north. Sadly she could do nothing about what Ghalla of the south think of her, as the cult of Belgrath is too strong.
