Tyler is the middle child of Jessica and Elena Browne and spent his childhood living the quiet life on a farm in the Catskills. Growing up, he was always closest to his younger sister, Clara, and the two were inseparable until her untimely death when he was 10. While they were playing hide-and-seek in the family barn, the building abruptly caught fire, trapping them inside. Unable to reach his sister, Tyler escaped to find help by breaking and jumping through a second storey window, breaking his leg upon landing. His mother, Jessica, ran into the fire in an attempt to save her daughter but was also unsuccessful, and Clara tragically died before the fire could be extinguished.
As playing in the barn had been his idea, Tyler spent several years suffering from survivor's guilt and PTSD, and his relationship with his mother, Jessica, became strained as a small part of her couldn't help blaming him despite her best efforts. Fortunately, she was able to move past those feelings within a few months and reconcile with her son, helping him as he went through therapy. With the support of his family, Tyler was able to accept what had happened and stop blaming himself for it. A year after he left highschool, he decided to become a police officer so he could help people in Clara's memory since helping people (and animals) was what she'd always strived for.

- His go-to pizza order is chicken, mushroom and bacon with extra cheese and a side of garlic pizza bread.
- He has a faint slightly curved scar on his forehead, just below his hairline, from the accident that killed his sister.
- He technically has no forename as he was named after his mother's maiden name – Tyler – and his other mother's surname – Browne – when the latter filled in his birth certificate tipsy and thought it would be funny. His first name was originally supposed to be Thomas.
- His favorite restaurant is The Lost Island, located on the seafront in Shelle Cove.
- He owns a female golden retriever named Biscuit.
- His middle name is Anthony.
- Claire notably reminds him of Clara, partly because she resembles her to an almost uncanny degree. The first time the two of them met, he briefly thought he was seeing a ghost.
- He's always up to date with memes and has one saved for seemingly every occasion. He quotes Vines on the regular, but the only one who ever gets the references is Claire.
