Orlov Mironovich Branovich

Orlov's strict, almost bossy demeanor appears intensely intimidating to others. He fights with strong anger issues, for which he has had drugs prescribed that he doesn't take. He doesn't like the way they make him feel, as he is entirely convinced that the medicine limits his performance. Although Orlov would like to apologise and make up for the mistakes he has made in his past deep down, he can never bring himself to take the first step. He enjoys being in control too much, something that easily goes to his head when he isn't taking his medicine, and would not want to give up that feeling voluntarily - as he likes to always be one step ahead of others.

Back when Orlov was still in university he took part in a rescue mission, which intended to retrieve a crashed Xenobiologist. Despite his current demeanor he used to be a quite nice and fun person back then. After setting out with a team of soldiers and his fellow medicine graduate student Nicolai Kozlov the team chanced upon a nest of a race of horrible alien creatures (coined 'Scarabs') stalking their home planet Eon not far from the site that they were supposed to head to. Nicolai, who had lost most of his legs and left arm due to an unfortunate circumstance a little bit prior, had developed some new cybernetic limbs for himself and had just shortly beforehand been cleared to join field operations again. Due to this he was still getting used to the new robotics replacing his original body parts. Orlov and Nicolai had been close friends for most of their university time and were glad to have been put into the same unit, thinking that they would be able to have each others backs when delving into the deep tunnels of the Scarab's burrows.

Inside one of the countless underground caves however, the team chanced upon one of the creatures' hatcheries. When Nicolai kicked one of the grubs trying to make its way up his leg aside he didn't account for the fact that Orlov was standing not too far from him. Horrified he watched as the writhing maggot exploded in his friend's face, covering him with its juice and innards - as well as a pheromone that attracts and alarms the rest of the swarm, marking him as an intruder. Although they quickly managed to find the lost Xenobiologist not too deep into the cave, it was quickly apparent upon checking the man's vitals that there was no way that he could possibly still be alive. Suddenly the ground below them began to vibrate, and from countless holes more and more of the Scarab creatures burst out, crawling into their direction just as the soldiers called for retreat. They managed to fight their way through to the cave entrance and already thought themselves safe - before the queen of the swarm burst from the darkness right in front of them, tearing Orlov down onto the ground with her, clawing at him with her crescent-shaped arms. Orlov desperately tried to escape, but the queen managed to bite down onto his right arm with her jaw full of grinding-stone like rows of teeth and attempted to pull him back with her into the hatchery. Nicolai posessed just quick enough of a mind to grab Orlov by the hand, but due to the fact that he used his organic arm instead of the new and much stronger cybernetic one, Orlov's fingers slipped out of his grasp - a fact that he still hasn't forgiven him for to this day. Although the soldiers managed to wound the queen enough so that she let go of him, Orlov's arm and most of his right face including his right eye was beyond saving. Nicolai had to amputate his arm then and there, with his friend screaming that he better not dare touch him the whole while. Shocked, bruised and broken they barely managed to make it back, though now an irreparable crack ran through their friendship - which then finally completely broke apart when Orlov, still angered by the fact that Nicolai had let go of him, left him lying and bleeding out after he had been hit quite badly durin another field mission. Before taking a look at the wounded Nicolai he even stretched his arm out as if to help him, before pulling it away with a spiteful grin and leaving him to bleed out, just like he felt Nicolai had done to him back in that horrible cave.

Nowadays the initial friends hate each other, and Orlov works for the head of Colony 69 - Ilja Volvitch - in a research laboratory of Section 9, which deals with the development of experimential drugs. There he works as the overseeing senior physician, responsible for making sure that everything runs through him - and runs smoothly, infirmary included. He has long stopped going onto field missions for the red Guard after the two horribly failed missions that he never speaks even one word of. These incidents have turned his previously much brighter demeanor dark and cold, completely unearthing the sadistic aggression problems he'd always tried to surpress most of his life. But now Orlov sees no reason not to delve into this dark side of him, as niceties will just lead to you being betrayed, after all.
