Alex

SUMMARY

Alex is a depressed dipshit with no idea what to do, jerking off to digital abominations resembling women in a hellish virtual landscape.

PERSONALITY

Alex is a depressive, a skinny mess, greasy, eternally exhausted and generally a downer. He constantly is wearing a face of hopelessness and despair coupled with disdain. The only way he's even remotely possible to get along with is if Jake is around.

Social media, at least in the way we see it in 2020s, does not exist in the Keno world. His social media addiction and subsequent hatred of it is supplied by the nearly non-existent, barely functional Mind Haven scraps. As such, he maintains meager interactions on a literal digital void. A landscape of empty, bugged, glitched platforms that once held humanity's largest digital social presence. The sheer vastness of this chasm greatly depresses him. But, he can't help but be drawn to it. It's his primary addiction. There will be sometimes he meets people on there but these interactions have the depth level of a spilt coffee cup on flat ground. These are denizens usually still in The City but either also a lost soul like Alex or more usually, completely unaware of their position. And, most of the time, they will be angry although he's never able to get a full answer out of them. Just angry. Sadly, he's angry too but not sure about what. But they, like him, are trapped in the virtual coffin that is The Mind Haven Void Platforms.

In order so that he doesn't completely lose all hope and ending up committing suicide to free him from the post modern nightmare, he's joined the ranks of the burgeoning punk club, Jimmy's club. Although less a club and more akin to a meeting venue for disenfranchised youth in an empty urban dystopia. While Jimmy and Alex share the intense hatred for the current City, Alex uses the club more to find camaraderie in dreary times. Jake, his best friend, uses it to find reasons to cause havoc and break things. Something Jake would normally be arrested for.

He spends his city days playing bass, wandering the Mind Haven and The Cleanrooms, going along with the gang, and generally doing nothing.

HISTORY

Alex, like Jake and more recently, Mullet and his class, come from suburbia south of The City. He was not born in The City. But unlike Mullet and the rest, he and Jake are fugitives, that actively searched for a new life. A life that wasnt drab and mundane like their parents. A place in the fascinating, large, endless City. They weren't however aware of the sheer level of existentialism that City would bring them.

Simply, one day, he and his bud had decided long ago to just skip school and run away. They had grown tired of the life of existing in a nice house with one car, a family and an easy job. They wanted more from life. More from life that their rock songs promised. Rock songs that told of a life that hadnt existed for centuries. But they didnt know that. They were, well are, dumb and young. So they figured life must be way more fun up north. Unfortunately, they only found this out after running away. After vandalizing school property one last time, one last final "fuck you." After they stole a car, got chased by police. After they had traveled miles from home, getting lost. After they crashed it some place down town and hid out for a few weeks. And after they discovered denizens. And their existences. So now they seek refuge with Jimmy, and soon Mullet.

So. Alex's eye. It's at a point in time where Jake and Alex are running away from suburbia, their home. They get into a fight about why they left. Alex regretted it, feeling it was too much but Jake argued it's what they both needed. They had already arrived in The City but Alex wanted to go back. Jake didn't. They were in a shitty, empty, rundown apartment that they just happened to be able to enter as the lock wasn't fully working/unlocked. At first, they thought they could reconcile it but clearly they weren't able to. Disagreements turned into arguing which turned into insults which turned into a full on physical fight. Jake had constantly been egging Alex on to the point Alex lunged at him, knocking both of them to the ground. They struggled briefly. Alex had pinned Jake to the floor by holding his wrists, demanding him to stop. Jake was fiercely ignoring him. Alex reached up to the counter to grab a knife, not as a weapon but as a threat. He flipped around and held it to Jake's throat. Jake instantly used his free hand to shove his knuckles into Alex's eye, severely bruising it. Alex screamed, holding his eye. He released and they both stumbled away from each other. They reconciled. Both acknowledged fault. Jake for egging on and permanently damaging Alex and Alex for nearly slicing Jake's throat. It's been a few years since then but oddly enough it brought them closer, realizing they were the only two that could look out for each other. They could have done worse to each other but didn't. Jake's been severely apologetic, making a note to check on Alex's condition, even a few times a week. Alex brushes it off, saying it's fine. It's one of the few things Jimmy wont mock or say anything about. He realizes he'd be in deep shit between the two of them. Mullet thinks it's disturbing and Chloe thinks it's really badass.
