THIS SECTION CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE CHIMERA HEART WEBCOMIC! PLEASE READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Personality:

Mazenta is incredibly shy and anxious. She constantly stutters through conversations, and tends to get overwhelmed easily in social situations. Unlike most of the other members of House #13, she doesn’t really like to do extracurricular activities either. However, she has a great love for art and cartoons, and gets very passionate when sharing her interests. Because of her lack of identity, she struggles to find herself.

Powers and Abilities:

Mazenta is a mermaid, meaning she possesses all merpeople powers.

- Shapeshifting: Mazenta can shift between her human form on land and mermaid form in water.

- Aquatic Respiration: Mazenta can breathe underwater.

Because she is a mermaid, she also possesses these weaknesses.

- Merpeople are a Non-Living species, meaning they have died at least once and do not exude Living energy. Mazenta cannot use unnatural magics (like bending bracelets) because these magics rely off of the Living energy one produces.

- When on land, merpeople tend to get dehydrated easily, especially in hot environments. Mazenta typically carries a water bottle in her school bag for this reason.

Backstory (Spoilers):

Mazenta woke up at the bottom of the ocean as a mermaid, without any memory of how she got there or who she even was. According to her, she just remembers becoming “an entirely new being.”

She decides to look for someone, anyone, and spots a seagull flying above the water. Following it, it leads her to Amai Island. Exhausted from swimming, she hoists herself onto some rocks on the shore to sit and rest. She notices a pink-beaded bracelet on her wrist.

Suddenly, someone jumps up from behind her and telling her to freeze in the name of the Stars. Mazenta slips and falls back into the water. The stranger apologizes to her, mistaking her for a monster. She then sees Mazenta’s form, realizing she’s a mermaid. In excitement, the stranger starts to file a rare species report. She asks Mazenta for her name, age, or any other mermaids she might know about, but Mazenta says that she doesn’t know and starts to cry. The stranger comforts her, realizing that she’s scaring the poor mermaid, and introduces herself as Kokoro, an android Starrior in-training.

Because Mazenta is all alone in the ocean, Kokoro offers to take her to the Crest of the Stars. Mazenta takes her hand and agrees. After being examined by the Crest, Kokoro and her boyfriend, Taimu, take Mazenta in to live with them in House #13. Mazenta still kept the bracelet, thinking it might be a link to her past.

History in Chimera Heart (Spoilers):

Arc 1

Mazenta lives with Kokoro and Taimu in House #13. When Ita, Kashi, Una, and Faji move in, Mazenta introduces herself very shyly to the group. Una thought that mermaids were extinct, to which Mazenta explains that she was the first mermaid found in many years.

The next day, at the first day of school, she sits with the group at lunch. While the others are saying what sports and activities they’re going to participate in, Mazenta says that sports aren’t really her thing. The last class period of the day is her favorite class: art. This is where she introduces herself to her table partner, Kara. Mazenta and Kara, both being incredibly anxious, struggle to make conversation until Mazenta accidentally knocks over her water bottle. The both of them are able to relax a bit more after this, and they even exchange their drawings to each other at the end of class. When Mazenta meets up with the House #13 members after school, she says that she’s made a friend.

After school, Mazenta introduces Ita to her favorite TV show, “Genesis Dream Girls.” Yami hijacks the television signal, proclaiming war on society and the Crest of the Stars. Mazenta is frightened and confused at her message.

A few days later, Mazenta is in her Basic Magics class. Nervously, she tries to use a hydrokinetic bending bracelet, but she can’t get it to work, causing her to panic. Her teacher asks her if she is a “living” species, to which she replies that she does not know. Upon examining Mazenta’s school medical folder, it’s discovered that she is an “nonliving” species, therefore she cannot use unnatural magics like bending bracelets. However, this also meant that she had died at some point, and had been brought back to life somehow.

When she talks to the members of House #13 after school about this, Ita asks how she died, to which she replies, “I don’t know.” She just remembers waking up at the bottom of the ocean as a completely new person. Mazenta then tell the group the story of first waking up, swimming to Amai Island, and then meeting Kokoro, who took her in. Mazenta then reveals her bracelet to the group. She claims that she never takes it off, thinking that maybe it would have some kind of key to her past.

In Chapter 8, when the group gets attacked by the shadow monster, Mazenta nervously watches the chaos unfold in front of her. She gets frozen by the ankles by Masuku, but is rescued by a trio of Starriors.

In Chapter 9, Mazenta admits that she does not know about the Fire of Mythenhaft, which causes Kashi and Kokoro to explain it to her.

Arc 2

When the lunchtime group is talking about homecoming, Mazenta says that she probably wasn’t going with a date, but planned to go with Kara if neither of them got asked. This makes Ita and Mazenta the only two members of House #13 without dates.

At the homecoming dance, Mazenta finds Kara and sits next to her, both too nervous to actually dance. As they watch their friends dance, Mazenta starts to panic again. When Kara asks what’s wrong, Mazenta says that all of her friends on the dance floor looked so confident and happy. “How can I be confident in myself if I don’t even know who I am?” In response, Kara calls Mazenta her “art buddy” and proceeds to tell her that she shouldn’t dwell on the past so much, and should rather focus on the person she wants to become. Mazenta takes her advice to heart, and gives Kara the bracelet.

Arc 3

A few days after Yosei goes missing, Kara texts Mazenta, alerting her that she needed to talk to her and she will be at their place shortly. A knock is heard at the door and Mazenta answers, shocked and confused to see a shivering Kara on their porch. She confesses to Mazenta that she is a member of Yami’s Army. Kokoro gets in-between the two, arming her laser cannon at Kara and telling her to stay back. Mazenta steps in front of the cannon, begging Kokoro to hear Kara out. When Kara explains to Taimu, Kokoro, and Mazenta that she just wants to tell her side of things, Taimu agrees to let her. Mazenta comforts Karami as they prepare for the interrogation.

Mazenta sits to Karami’s right during the interrogation. Per Mazenta’s request, Taimu allows Karami to spend the night on the condition that him and Kokoro supervise in the living room.

Ita is Mazenta's friend and housemate. While Ita can tend to be too energetic for her at times, Mazenta loves to indulge in her interests with Ita.

Kara is Mazenta's friend, whom she met in art class. The two are both too anxious for their own good, yet they bond over each other's introvertedness.

Kokoro is Mazenta's friend and housemate. Mazenta was discovered on the shores of Amai Island by Kokoro, who offered to let her live with her and Taimu.
