About

Francine Von Thanatos is the God of Death who rules over Purgatory, the brother of The Lord and the Father of Ed. Its a posh, sophisticated, well-mannered God who takes great pride in its craft of gardening. Considering himself 'the greatest gardener in all of the Afterlife', he loves bragging about his garden and scoffing at those who he deems are lesser gardeners.

Despite being short-tempered, Francine prefers to bargain or come up with a peaceful solution to any conflicts it finds itself in... Unless anyone touches one of his plants, then he elegantly unleashes his fury upon them.
Outside of gardening he enjoys living a simple quite life in his castle and more importantly, to not be disturbed by any outsiders.

Appearance

Francine is a tall skeleton held together by a suspicious dark ora. He has glowing yellow eyes within his skulls eye sockets, a scruffy black beard and long black hair covering his back.

It wears a straw hat with a red stripe with a gold badge depicting the symbol of a rake, a dishevelled black rose is attached to its hat by the stripe . It dresses in a purple bath robe covered in plant life and wealds a pare of skeleton hands fused together atop a massive bone, which Francine insists is just a rake.

Lore

Centuries upon centuries ago, in his youth, Francine used to be a chaotic being who "spread death and despair" across the Mortal Realm in direct rivalry to its brother. However, he soon discovered the beauty of nature and chose to dedicate his existence towards gardening instead.

Many legends later, atop its recently constructed Castle, it was attending its garden only to make a horrifying discovery!
The Lord had a much larger, much more vibrant garden than him. Naturally, Francine did the responsible thing and declare war on its brother. After countless afterlives were taken over this petty dispute, Mother Steve — the Garden's true owner — had enough of the conflict and demanded both sides to ceasefire. She did however listen to both plights and decided to trade a third of her garden to the Lord, leaving Francine in the dust. Francine did not take the loss lightly, but eventually came to the conclusion that taking a perfect garden wouldn't be as for-filling as making one himself. From that day forth it strived to make its own Garden of Death surpass even that of Mother Steve's.

Even more Centuries later, Francine was confronted by Rucifel, who attempted to seduce him into having a child with her. It rejected her offer due to being centuries older than her but agreed to give her partial rule over Purgatory if she would raise its child Ed. With that Francine had one less distraction from his gardening and inadvertently aided in the Demon Revolution.

Trivia

  •  Francine's name was literally made up on the spot by an old friend, weather or not they knew of Francine was male or not isn't clear, but I kept it because I found it funny to have the God of Death be called fucking Francine.
  • ● Francine being a gardener was also due to the input of the same friend who named him. Originally he was conceptualised as a generic evil Grimm Reaper, but my friend's idea was bother funnier and more creative.
  • ● Francine also wasn't a skeleton at first, he was just some grey humanoid. I only made him one after another friend mistook him for one.
  • ● Francine's voice claim is similar to Hades from Kid Icarus Uprising
  • ● Francine was originally going to be a villain who got involved with the war between Aether and Hell because it disturbed his quiet reading time, this was changed as to not take focus away from the Demons.

Relationships

Ed — His troubled child who Fran believes is going through its "edgy phase". Francine tries to get the kid to help out with the garden, but this is Ed we're talking about, so...
Fran never properly disciplines the kid either, which might explain why Ed turned out to be... Ed.

The Lord — His good old brother who depending on what time of the century it is, Fran may or may not be declaring war on. The Lord willingly listens to Francine's long drawn out boastings and attends dinners with him every few thousand years, so they seem on good terms for the most part.

Skulity — His own personal butler. A charmer for Fran to talk to when the crushing emptiness of his hollow life starts closing in around him, not to mention he does his job near perfectly.

Rucifel — Ed's little babysitter/un official mother. Somewhat of a mini rival who Francine loves to make jokes at expense of behind her back and to her face. After all, what's a little Demon like her going to do about it?
