Map reader extraordinaire

overworked • undervalued • acceding

Everyone in the Cloudlander crew draws eyes, high-flyers and curious characters as they are. Everyone except for Iki. He just wants to do his job well.

Never mind that his job is really more like three different jobs, and that he's always trying to juggle four tasks at once, pouring (metaphorical) buckets on raging (metaphorical) house fires, like when the Sail Fed doesn't postpone races during thunderstorms...

He's so high-strung he practically vibrates, and can be found muttering to himself about multiple stresses at any given time. Even so, he'll rarely take credit for his good work, citing the fact that "it's just his job."

Despite his self-effacing nature, Iki has his fair share of appreciators and fans, especially within the team—Jinai thinks he's the reason they ever win at all and often credits podium finishes to him.

Both at work and outside it, he's quite eager to do as told. Even if he really doesn't want to do it. He'll rarely put up direct resistance other than complaining the whole time.

Helping the Cloudlander find the best route through storm, squall and lull is Iki's job! With a side of pre-empting competitors' decisions, making modelling programmes do his bidding, and recalibrating the game plan on the fly.

Effectively, they do a little bit of everyone's job. They can take one glance at a weather map and tell you what it looks like out on the water with almost magical accuracy, but that's far from the only skill needed for offshore navigation, which demands that he move a mile a minute.

Although they were trained as a meteorologist, their skills with reading maps and charts (and multitasking) have served them well in this anchoring role. What he wasn't quite prepared for was how much things are always happening, all the time. So much for his dreams of drafting daily forecasts in a remote weather station on the northern hills of Helfi.

His pay, while reasonable, does not reflect how vital he is to the team's victory. This poor sod just really needs a vacation. 1 like = 1 day off...

Trivia

I've always associated Iki with grid patterns, geometric motifs, and purple. He's never seen without his three filographs: 1. personal, 2. work correspondence/research, and 3. specialist software. He's quite severely short-sighted and can barely see without his glasses. One of his parents is from Niro while the other is from Aora.

Connections

Lujangcoworker

These are a pair of antsy, work-obsessed teammates who often find themselves relying on each other. Occasionally, they don't meet each other's standards, and this has resulted in countless overblown arguments. But most of the time, they run like a well-oiled machine. Iki often finds themself soliciting Lujang's help with equipment setup, especially when they're too busy focusing on some other part of their job.

Telakicoworker

Iki would do anything for Telaki. Well, almost anything. He (like everyone else) recognises how much she does for the cohesion of this team. Sometimes she makes calls he doesn't agree with. But that's fine! She also listens to him when he disagrees. Usually.

Jandacoworker

Iki wants to know Janda better! He finds the intel officer easy to work with and very serious about her job, because unlike the rest, her work usually happens when races aren't going on. Unlike Lujang, he recognises how having family to take care of impacts her schedule.

Anqienteammate

Iki finds Anqien to be their most pleasant teammate (and vice versa), though they're a little too awkward to become proper friends (and vice versa).

Jinaiteammate

Unlike his amiable temperament towards Anqien, Iki practically hero-worships Jinai. She's pretty famous and that means her presence is kinda intimidating by default! Usually it's her praise, more than anyone else's, that he doesn't know how to respond to. But mainly because she gives him way too much credit (in his opinion).
