He used to be a local short course champion, before deciding that the excessive regulations were stifling him. Then he signed on with the sailing team of AmaShiru Beverages—a popular fruit juice brand that's currently branching out into other things, like soda...and offshore racing.
The AmaShiru Mirages (consisting of Xye and the up-and-coming star Zera) made a splash at their first race, and have been in the spotlight ever since. They're looking to complete a hat-trick of wins in the Niro-Helfi Race.
When she's not racing, Xye still a powerful, petulant, impenetrable wild card, making headlines as easily as flicking her hair. In the interviews, he loves to deliver the meanest, hammiest jabs at the rival team, and Jinai can't help but wonder: is this really necessary? Anqien doesn't mind him...for now.
Xye has no clue who her biological parents are, but her memories begin in Anami-sa, so that's her birthplace for all intents and purposes. Xye's parents, a pair of Anami-sa locals, adopted him when he was 1, and he grew up in their waterfront house with two older siblings (also adopted). Before she started sailing, Xye was a trainee lifeguard on the local beach. Then she did a complete 180 to become the most unsafe sailor in the sport, always escaping reproach because of her preternatural skill.

Xye's name is pronounced like the first syllable of "xylophone". But he doesn't care how you pronounce it tbh. She uses both he/him and she/her very interchangeably and absolutely lives for the confusion it creates when two different people use different pronouns to refer to him in the same conversation.Likes

Connections
Zera • teammate
Zera is the only person in the world who can keep Xye under control. It's probably the only reason their team works so well. Something about her stone-wall impatience for bullshit takes all the fun out of being annoying. I mean, she did once ask Zera out, too, and got squarely told "no". Not even a second's hesitation. Ouch.
Jinai • rival
Ah, Jinai. She's beautiful, she's talented, she's also Xye's biggest, baddest rival in the sport (sorry, Anqien, but Jinai's the one who's been in the game for 9 years). Xye makes a point of taking mean jabs at her on the news. The tabloids love that shit. It always works. Jinai jabs back at him, and the balance of nature is sustained.
Anqien • rival
To Xye, Anqien went from being Jinai's shadow to one of the most intriguing people who's ever entered her attention. They seem quiet onscreen, but at parties? She's watched them chug three drinks and then sing at the top of their lungs. Xye does think they're cute and would flirt if it wasn't obvious something was going on between them and Jinai.
