Insider's Look Into Personality

The desire to be seen has been a constant feeling that Haruto holds dear to him. It's one of the reasons why he pulls pranks and do mischievous things as a means to gain attention. Most of these pranks are harmless unless you happen to be Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. If you are those three, those pranks are malicious as hell. Then again, considering how much those three bully Haruto and the fact they stole his masks, can you truly blame him for being so cruel to them. Regardless, Haruto is a energetic, kindhearted, and caring individual that has yet to master working out what is right or wrong. After all, he's a kid and the "Lousy Three" had rubbed off of him in a negative way. Thanks to his adopted fathers, he is learning to be compassionate and respectful to others. Ok...maybe not so much the last part. That boy has the tendency to say things a bit too bluntly to the point that Ronin has to often apologize for the things that his son says. One thing that should be noted is Haruto love for combat and his desire to challenge strong opponents. He rarely shows nervousness or fear when fighting. While not arrogant in his abilities, Haruto has a tendency to be too relaxed and recklessly challenge anyone he views as strong to a fight.

Haruto lack of emotional maturity has also left him somewhat naïve, which often makes many incorrectly assume him to be somewhat stupid. His direct and carefree approach, combined with often taking things to face-value, is what leads to Haruto to be as blunt as he is. Despite this, Haruto is remarkably effective at applying himself once properly motivated. For a six year old, he is able to quickly comprehend the situation and likewise learn the basics of anything presented to him, if not master it. When taking a firsthand experience, he is shown to be incredibly perceptive and intuitive, quickly able to analyze the situation and formulate an effective countermeasure. Very methodical and tactical in his approach, this is what allowed the boy to be able to hold his own against a single member of the "Lousy Three" despite being a demi-god. The boy makes great use of his mask and is capable of flicking between them on the fly when the situation calls for it.

Summary of Appearance

Haruto takes the form of a small, light green humanoid Pokémon that resembles a baby oni. He has a green torso with a small white star on his stomach with two additional yellow dots along the right side of his body. The male has four arms with his smaller arms positioned in front of his chest that he keeps buried within his fur and his larger ones attached in the typical areas of a bipedal would be located. His smaller arms appeared to be covered with fur while his larger arms are composed of that of wood. His long black legs matched the same wood texture of that of his larger arms with two toes on each foot. Between his toes are sprouts with two leaves. A green, leafy cloak covers his arms, the neck of which appears to be a large, thorny vine. Two thorns stick out prominently from the top, resembling two large horns. These thorns resembled that of a six-spiked headband with a single leaf peaking out of he top. When he isn't wearing a mask, one would see their brown face with two yellow dots above their eyes and two dark gray ones below their yes. Their yellow eyes have a star-shaped pupil with a light green markings along the very ends of the eye itself. Removing the cloak, one would see their face and the mess of green locks on their head is shown to be extremely fluffy with the four dark gray horns in the same positioned as the first four spikes on their headband.

  • Haruto has a diguise form that can be seen here.
  • Haruto is able to change forms with the four masks that he has. The forms can be seen here.
  • This is what Haruto looks like when he isn't wearing his mask and cloak.
  • Haruto is rarely seen without his cloak and often gets distress if someone else besides his dads make him take it off.

Story

Summary

A long, long time ago, a Toxtricity Bestia and an ogre came to Village of Kitakami within Haifipas from a land that is said to be blessed by the Gods. The people of the village feared the Toxtricity and the ogre, who looked so different from them. As such, they refused to let the travelers come anywhere near the village. The Toxtricity and the ogre were saddened that the villagers did not welcome them but they did not push their luck. After all, they were happy just to have each other. They settled quietly in a cave on the mountain, making that darken void a home for the two of them. There was only one villager who pitied the two travelers: the village mask maker. He made several masks for the Toxtricity and the ogre. The masks were brilliant works, adorned with gems the Toxtricity brought from somewhere far away. By wearing these masks, the travelers could hide their true faces and mingle with the villagers. The Toxtricity and the ogre were overjoyed. They thanked the mask maker for his kindness. Wearing the masks, the Toxtricity and the ogre started secretly joining the village festival. The mysterious pair soon became the talk of the village because of their brilliant masks. In fact, rumors about them quickly spread far and wide, even to distant lands. But rumors of exquisite, shining masks attract more than just innocent curiosity...A group of greedy Gods soon made their way to the village of Kitakami. These Pokémon sneaked into the cave in which the Toxtricity and the ogre lived and tried to make off with the masks, which were carefully stored away. The Toxtricity happened to be there. He managed to hold on to one of the masks, but he was not strong enough to protect them all. The greeydy Pokémon stole the other three masks. Several hours later, when the ogre returned to the cave, he found his beloved home in ruin. All that was left were the signs of a struggle and a teal mask. The ogre donned that mask and went down to the village, perhaps to search for his friend. He found the greedy Pokémon there, gloating over their stolen masks, and defeated them. The villagers, of course, had no idea what was happening nor why. All they saw was the raging ogre and they felt great fear. The villagers thought the three Pokémon had fallen trying to protect the village from the ogre. To honor their sacrifice, the villagers named them the Loyal Three and interred them with care. Wounded and weak, the ogre returned to his cave-alone and with great sadness.

This is the story of Haruto. However, this is only the surface level summary of his life as there is more to this demigod that meets the eye. What has lead him to Kitakami? What is his friend? Why was said friend the one responsible for him? Why are Gods bullying one of their own? So many questions.

Story of the Oni

It's not uncommon for a God to have thralls. Thralls have their fair share of uses such as being the eyes of a chosen deity or doing whatever tasks that is asked for them to do that a God may have the inability to take care of as a result of being busy. For most of Nox [a Bestian Toxicrity]'s life, being a thrall was what he was used to being. With his parents abandoning him when he was a child, he was lucky to be found by God of Fertility and Family [Tulio the Manaphy]. The man was willing to use his time to ensure that he was able to live his life to the fullest undearneath his wing. The option for him to leave was always there, but Nox never bother to take it. In fact, he decided to take on a thrall role for Tulio. Most of his time was spent ensuring that young mortals would end up in places where they can grow when left abandoned by their parents. Sometimes, he will even raise them for a bit until they were old enough to move on. This has been Nox life for decades and something that he was good at. It was why that Tulio selected him to help raise a new demigod that was forged by the hands of the God of Healing and Prophecy [Orion the Calyrex]. The new demigod would serve as the eventual God of Nostalgia with the eventual goal being for him to be a form of balance between life and death.

This new demigod was Haruto the Ogerpon.

For five years of Haruto's life, Nox was Haruto's older brother. Nox never rushed Haruto when it came to learning about the world and what it means to be a God. Haruto was a child, and Tulio always taught Nox to never rush a child's growth. This was very important when it came to Haruto as nostalgia was going to end up becoming his main title. Together, Haruto and Nox would travel the world together without much of a goal in mind. For Nox, he wanted to build memories for Haruto. He wanted to try out as many things as he can in hopes of making those starry eyes of his sparkle in delight of what he was seeing. Sometimes, those memories were bad. Sometimes, those memories were good. For Nox, it didn't matter to him as long as they were balanced. Memories allow for one to grow as a character, and that was essential for Haruto. The boy needed to learn how does memories affect the world and what to do while dealing with them.

However, Nox would eventually realize that Haruto needed a place that he can call home. A place that he can associate his most positive memories with. That is why this man went to the Village of Kitakami. He hoped that the village would be so willing to accept them into their land. To his sadness, they were not accepting. The villager were quite wary of them espesically Nox due to his Bestian blood. As such, they did not allow the two of them to live in their village. Not wanting to turn a sad situation into a hopeless one, Nox and Haruto decided to head to the mountains, where they would convert a cave into their new home. While the villagers weren't accepting of them, they were still happy to be with each other. However, there was a village that wasn't as wary of them. That village was the villager's mask maker. The mask masker made four masks for the pair with Haruto infusing them with tera shards that has been gifted to him by God of Creation and Origin [Aipis the Arceus]. Overjoyed by their new masks, Haruto and Nox thanked the man before using these mask to go to and from the town. The pair would become the talk of the village due to their masks with rumors spreading far and wide about their masks. These rumors of their mask would catch the attention of three greedy Gods: God of Hatred and Desire [Towa the Okidogi], God of Dread and Education [Satoshi the Munkidori] and the God of Despair and Persuasion [Rika the Fezandipiti].

With the chains being touched by the hands of the God of Greed, Satoshi, Towa and Rika couldn't help but make their way to Kitakami in hopes of claiming these masks as their own. They happened to strike around the time that Haruto had been away from home, gathering some berries in the surrounding area. Howeve, Nox was there and ended up encountering the three unruly bunch. The Gods cared little about Nox connection to Tulio and fought against him as they tried their damnest to claim those masks. Despite Nox's best attempts to stop them, he would fail and be gravely injured as a result. Taking advantage of his defeat, Satoshi, Towa and Rika grabbed the treasure they sought for and left Nox's dying body. Unknown to them, they only managed to grab three out of the four masks that Nox with the Teal Mask being hidden away thanks to Nox's quick thinking. With his dying breath, Nox laid there, trying his hardest to stay awake long enough to at least say goodbye to Haruto.

It would be hours later that Haruto would returned. When he came home, he was greeted by his home in ruins and his adopted bother lying in a pool of his blood. Haruto would rush to Nox, who would quietly explain what happened to him and plead with the boy to return to Tulio and not seek revenge for what happened. Then with a final wheeze, he died. The light in Haruto's eyes faded as the fairy typing that the boy once had melted away to become that of the ghost type as a small part of him died and his malice materalized in a strong hatred. He would find the Teal Mask and hunt down Satoshi, Towa and Rika. Upon encountering them, he would attack and lash out against the three despite the strength that the three should have to overcome him. His rage only pushed him harder and harder until he managed to knock them out.

Before he had a chance to break their bodies, the village of Kitakami stopped him and shamed him for what he done. They didn't know the reasoning behind why he lashed out at these Pokemon and thought of him as a raging monster. From a mixture of shame of realizing he was going against Nox's words and how alone he was, Haruto would flee back to his ruined home as the three Gods he defeated were declared as being heroes and earn the title of the Loyal Ones. It has been over a year since that event and Haruto has turned to a life of mischief and chaos, where he made the villagers and the Loyal Ones a living hell. This ferals in the mountains became his friends and taught him how to grow stronger. A day would come where a group of Pokemon would enter Kitakami with some being apart of a "guild". From that group, a young boy caught Haruto's eyes. A boy that Haruto would lean on in hopes of getting the truth of what happened out there....and to get one step closer to having family.

Fighting style

For a six year old, Haruto has a lot of experience when it comes to fighting. While he's certainly won't be taking down experienced fighters like his fathers anytime soon, let's not forget the boy's rage was what allowed him to overcome three Gods at once. Haruto is a physical attacker who makes great use of his size and speed to deliver heavy and quick blows. He can be best described as being a mixture of a rouge and a barbarian with his strength/mindset stemming from a barbarian and his speed/agility coming from a rouge. His fighting style can be best described as "fuck around and find out" as the boy is great at coming up with plans on fly. After all, when you carry masks that allows you to flick through the types, adapting becomes a essential feature as it allows for Haruto to be unpredictable and learn more about how his enemies tend to fight. Haruto is capable of terastallizing but has yet to master the art as doing do takes a lot out of the young man. That and there are times doing such a transformation can sometimes not happen.

Strengths

  • Is capable of changing his typing through his masks
  • His creativity allows him to adapt on the fly when needed
  • His speed and attack allows him to deliver heavy, quick blows
  • His varied moveset allows him to pull off some incredible feats

Weaknesses

  • Can lose his temper if he's not being too careful with his emotions
  • His Terastal form takes a lot out of him due to his rare use of it
  • Still requires a bit of time to master battling due to his age
  • Outside of his attack and speed, his stats are overall pretty average
Defiant/Water Absorb/Mold Breaker/Sturdy
Natural Abilities

Difficulty
Mastery

Haruto is very unique Pokemon when it comes to his moves as he comes with four different one depending on which mask he happens to wear. By default/when he's wearing the Teal Mask, he has Defiant. With this ability, his attack is increased by two stages whenever a enemy lowers any of other stats. While wearing the Wellspring Mask, he has Water Absorb. With this, if he's hit by a Water-type move, he ends up healing from the move intead of taking damage from it. With the Hearthflame Mask, he has Mold Breaker. With this, his moves are unimpeded by the Ability of the target. With the Cornerstone Mask, he has Sturdy. With this, he cannot be knocked out by a single hit as long as his HP is full. One-hit KO moves will also fail to knock him out.

Ivy Cudgel
Natural Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Ivy Cudgel is a damaging physical Grass-Type move that Haruto naturally knows as it's a signature move for his species. With this, Haruto strikes with an ivy-wrapped cudgel that he summons from his pocket dimension. This move's type changes depending on the mask worn by Haruto, and it has a heightened chance of landing a critical hit. This is a move that you will commonly see Haruto use as it's one of his favorite moves that can do some impressive damage. A interesting thing to note is the fact that Ivy Cudgel can be either ghost or grass type in his Teal Mask form, though it tends to be mostly grass type by default.

Play Rough
Learned Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Play Rough is damaging physical Fairy move that Haruto ended up learning from Lewis. When this move is used, Haruto jumps towards the opponent and cloaks it with a thick, white smoke surrounded by stars. Hidden within the smoke itself, Haruto wildly punches and kicks them multiple times with enough force that the target's attack may become lowered. Play Rough is a move that Haruto wanted to learn as he thought that it would be funny to use it alongside Ivy Cudgel. The veil of smoke is really useful for someone of his size as it can also be used as a means to escape or a easy way to get some quick hits in.

Stomping Tantrum
Learned Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Stomping Tantrum is a damaging physical Ground-type move that Haruto learned as a means to try to have a upperhand against the Loyal Three. Drawing on his frustration, Haruto's body becomes outlined in yellow before he proceeds to stomp the ground repeatedly. With each step he takes, he sents out splinters of the ground flying at the enemy. The move becomes more powerful if Haruto's previous move failed/missed. This move is useful for dealing with poison types and ice types as those are common types that Haruto struggles with. However, this move can be quite a nightmare for Lewis and Ronin when he ends up throwing a tantrum while using it.

Seed Bomb
Learned Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Seed Bomb is a damaging physical Grass-Type Move that Haruto learned from a technical machine that he stole. With this move, Ogerpon creates several glowing green seeds in his hand and sends flying towards the enemy by either throwing them or bonking them with his cudgel. When the seeds reach the opponent, they explode. Haruto learned Seed Bomb as a means to have a move to cater to his primary typing for other forms as his signature move would shift typing based his secondary typing. He also learned the move because he's a big fan of explosions and the chaos they cause.

Zen headbutt
Learned Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Zen Headbutt is a damaging physical Psychic-type move that Haruto learned from a technical machine he was given by Nox. With this, Haruto's head glows green as aa light green reflective shield surrounds his body. He lunges towards the enemy and slam their head into them. Sometimes, his eyes glow blue while using the move. This move proves to be very useful for Haruto when dealing with poison types even if it sometimes gives him a bit of a headache in the process. He doesn't really use this move too often as he doesn't feel it's not as useful as his other moves.

Knock Off
Learned Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Knock Off is a damaging physical Dark-type move that Haruto learned from attempting to learn Thief. With this, Haruto's hand (or cudgel) becomes surrounded by black sparks as he slams it in full force. What makes this move so special for Haruto is that he is able to knock the held item a Pokemon has away from far away enough to stop them from using it. Not only that but the move does more damage if the Pokemon happened to be holding a held item to begin with. As such, you can see why Haruto was fond that he managed to learn this in place of Thief espesically when he easily go to grab the item once it's knocked away.

Swords Dance
Learned Skill

Difficulty
Mastery

Swords Dance is a status non-damaging Normal-type move that Haruto learned from a technical mchine that he one time stole from the Loyal Ones. With this, Haruto lets out a battle cry as multiple light-blue swords circle around him. The swords stop and point towards Haruto, end first, before disappearing. A red aura bursts from the ground underneath him, before a lighter-colored red aura goes upwards along him body. This aura sharply raises Haruto's attack. This is very useful, given the fact that Haruto already has a high attack to begin with. As such, it doesn't hurt for him to have something that further boosts that to a level where he can rival Lewis.

Inventory

Masks

Haruto possesses four masks that he has infused with the tera crystal shards that he received from Kitakami's mask-maker. All four of these masks are as important to Haruto as they are essentially equivalent to Arceus' plates. Not only that, but it's the only thing he has that reminds him of Nox. Due to this, Haruto keeps all of his mask besides whatever current one he wears post Teal Mask arc in a pocket dimension that Falkor taught him to make.

Scarf

Every once in a while, Haruto is seen wearing a red scarf that was gifted to him by his younger brother when he officially joined the family. It's one of the few garbs that he's willing to wear whenever he's not wearing his leafy cloak as he is cable of using it as a partial hoodie if he wraps it in a certain way. Most of the time, he uses it as a means to calm down whenever he's experiencing strong emotions.

Trivia

General

  • Yes, I am fully aware that Ogerpon is a female. I am choosing to ignore that fact because it's not like I'm require to "follow" that.
  • I never intended for Haruto to be a character until I was smacked in the face with Ogerpon's face when its face was leaked.
  • Haruto's name stems from "sunlight". I felt it was fitting because Haruto is as bright and warm as one.

Combat

  • The typing of Haruto's main typing when he's using Teal Mask/default form is that of Grass/Ghost instead of just Grass.
  • If I can simplify his battle style into one sentence, it would be "Bonk Hard=Victory for Haruto".
  • Honestly, I can almost say Haruto borrows more of Lewis' battle style with more of a lean to speed instead of defense.

Social

  • I did based a bit of Haruto's personality on that of Kid Goku from Dragon Ball with some tweaks here and there.
  • I had Haruto's personality worked out the moment I saw Ogerpon's dex entry image as it captured the vibe I was looking for.
  • If you must know, I am in the battle of trying to call this boy Naruto as I did borrow some elements of him. Honestly, most shonen protagonist is what I used for his character.

Design

  • When it came to Haruto's design, I wanted to go for a more cutesy monster design. This is why I inverted his teeth into tusks and gave him horns.
  • It took a while to work out what colors I wanted for him because I wasn't a fan of species' color.
  • Technically speaking, if you look at Haruto's Hearthflame form, he doesn't break the red theming going on with his adopted parents.

Haruto was immediately attached to Lewis the moment he learned that the older man was a Bestia. After all, Nox was a Bestia so Haruto knew by default that Lewis knew a thing or two about being ostracized by a community. Haruto loves his father with all of his heart and tends to spend a bit more time with him than Ronin. Lewis is one of few that Haruto allows to hold his masks and clean them whenever they get too dirty. He isn't all that fearful when it comes to his feral form and takes great delight in seeing the man in it. He has picked up Lewis' charisma and has been relying on it to get whatever he wants. Lewis finds this to be quite amusing.

When Haruto first met Haruto, he was initially hestiate of him. He was typically the one that took Finn away from him so in some ways, he thought that he was purposely trying to make him lonely. However, his fondness of him would immediately shot up when Ronin would move to defend him when the Loyal Three try to attack him during the festival. It's through his actions that he realized that he was similar to Nox in attitude and was willing to do what it takes to stay by the frog's side. When the two of them are together, they are usually training and working out the mechanics of terastallization as the two have some ways to go before they can truly master the art.

Haruto was attached to Finn the moment the young boy stumbled upon him during the first day of the festival and returned his mask when he was spooked. To know that Finn wasn't scared of him and wanted to be his friend was enough to convince Haruto to stick by the boy's side. It was thanks to Finn that Haruto would become apart of the O'Connor family and find his place in life. Haruto loves his younger brother with all of his heart and will do whatever it takes to defend him from harm. You wanna pet him?". His fondness of Jasper is so strong that he often falls asleep in his bed with Jasper close by him. Falkor is one of the few Gods that Haruto encounters on a semi-regular basis. As such, he tends to rely on him to work out what it means to be the God. While Falkor takes his time in teaching the boy what he needs to know due to his age, Falkor has done a good job at earning Haruto's respect as Falkor would be the God assigned to punished the Loyal Three for their treatment of Haruto and the problems they caused to the Village of Kitakami. Haruto favorite thing to do is riding on the back of Falkor's back and claiming the area as being his special tower. Haruto has been learning a lot about being a part ghost type from his Uncle Rigel. He has made learning such a fun experience since most often than not, it involves acts of violence and pranks. Well mostly the latter since Ronin isn't a fan of Haruto being too violent. Haruto looks up to Rigel and enjoys listening to the man talk about Divine since he feels it helps him connect to his roots. He is often quick to defend Rigel from any verbal attacks he may receive from anyone outside of his family and even have moments where he defense what he ends up saying. Rigel often has to remind him that Haruto doesn't have to do that.
