Because they're broke, Neyo only has two sets of fancy clothes. They swap out the different parts to seem like they have more clothes than they do.
Neyo is a historian from Marenòs who was spurred into action after their patron, Galeria, mysteriously vanished. Being one of the few people who was properly literate at the time, they looked into foreign politics and tracked down the source of the trouble in Shanjin. They sold their posessions to buy a boat ticket and set off for another country. They meet Feng'An, Kejian, and Huilin at a hotel tavern, where they exchange information and ultimately help uncover the truth behind the disappearances.

Neyo has always admired Galeria, the Goddess of Faceless Crowds. Their line of study has always focused more on the civilians and the impact of events on their daily lives, which is why they look up to Galeria as the representative for those who were forgotten through the tides of time. Because of Galeria's niche domain, she never had that many followers, which is how the Calamity's resurgence in Shanjin affected her first. Galeria's sudden disappearance is what sets Neyo on the path to search for the other missing gods.
The group meets Neyo right as they were visiting Shanjin to research the gods' disappearance. Feng'An finds the historian's general research to be fascinating and is especially interested in their findings related to geography. However, as Neyo reveals their findings about the god extinctions, Feng'An slowly realizes there is more happening at the base of the disaster. This is what ultimately leads the group to finding the true reason behind the disappearances, and Neyo is also able to return to their own country to spread the discovery.
The group meets Neyo right as they were visiting Shanjin to research the gods' disappearance. Right off the bat, Huilin gets along exceptionally well with the historian, cracking jokes and sharing stories. Neyo also introduces Huilin to wine, much to Kejian's dismay. Neyo's research helps the group discover the true reason behind the appearances, but even after that, they remain friends. Huicha even visits Neyo's home country of Marenòs regularly to spend time with them.
Neyo's first impression of Kejian was a bombastic idiot, but the two unexpectedly became fast friends. Once they get past the initial scuffle about history versus combat, Kejian and Neyo bond over their travels, love for spicy food, and their admiration for a specific important god in their lives. Unconsciously aware that something is going on with Feng'An and Huilin, Neyo finds Kejian the most easily to relate to out of the rest of the group due to their similar age and background. Neyo also noticed his top surgery scars and winked at him in solidarity, but Kejian didn't quite understand what that meant. Kejian spends a few months tagging along with Neyo's travels after the god disappearance event is resolved, and the two become great friends.
