PERSONALITY

There is no one more chill and laid-back than Huilin. With an entire bit built around being constantly sleepy, Huilin is always the one ushering her group to take breaks or calming everyone down. She goes along with most plans her friends come up with unless she decides it's way too dangerous and/or causes too much stress, which usually end up being Kejian's concerning ideas. She is a big fan of enjoying the sights around, trying new food, and befriending people the group meets on their journey.

While being separate from her god form, Huicha, Huilin still retains some characteristics from her previous life. She gets along exceptionally well with strangers and newcomers, often being the one facilitating connections with individuals who end up helping the group on their search. She has incredible charisma along with her generally goofy demeanor, which also serves to balance out Feng'An's rigidness and Kejian's hotheaded impulses.

Although Huilin appears very mellow upon first glance, while true to some extent, there lies a bit of a mean streak under the soft expression. Despite her ever-smiling face, Huilin can be quite snarky and sassy, specifically towards her party group as a form of affection. She enjoys teasing Feng'An and Kejian and taking sides in their silly conflict just to drive some funny interactions for the day.

Still, Huilin's laid-back attitude cracks once she starts becoming frustrated with her own lack of memories and constant tiredness inhibiting the group from further progress. She becomes much more quick-tempered with aggravated and needs to take a break from interaction to calm down.

TRIVIA
  • Huilin's design and basic character premise is based off of my Genshin sona, who shares a similar design and name. (i have never played genshin before in my life)
  • That being said, she used to be the joke character, but got lore expansion.
  • Huilin (晖麟) means "qilin of light" and her surname Yi (希) makes it a pun that sounds like "qilin of darkness". Huicha (彗姹) means "beautiful comet", but is a pun on the word "coma".
  • Huilin and Huicha have always been the ones to make friends everywhere. Thus, quite a few gods noticed Huicha's absence after she went into a coma.
  • Like Feng'An, Huilin rarely ever gets angry. However, when she does, it's always directed towards herself.
  • Has the biggest sweet tooth imaginable. Will stop at every single tanghulu stand out on the streets, no matter the situation.
  • Can and will eat anything. Despite that, she never seems to gain weight.

STORY

Gods are formed through belief of mortals. Whenever there is appreciation or need for something, there will be a god to oversee it. As the world advances, more and more gods are formed to properly manage matters spanning from the earth, mind, life, and more.

Huicha was formed thousands of years ago to watch over waterfalls. She oversaw the flow and collaborated with the gods overlooking other freshwater domains. She also got along exceptionally well with mortals, having been a patron god of the waterfall village Xunbi for thousands of years. Huicha would commonly be seen around rivers and waterfalls or spending time with the people of Xunbi, as if one of their residents.

Going comatose and Huilin's formation

One day, minor gods suddenly begin vanishing. Huicha decides to take a nap at the most inconvenient time, which resultes in her consciousness being transferred into a mortal form and everyone assuming she was caught in the extinction event.

Huilin wakes up with no memory of her past or who she is. In fact, she didn't even know her name -- so she collaborates with a bartender to make one up on the spot when asked. Huilin spends the next month wandering around the cities in Shanjin without a clear direction until she meets Feng'An, who claimed he was searching for the goddess Huicha. Hearing Huicha's name jogs some of Huilin's memories of the goddess, and she joins Feng'An in his expedition with hopes to help his hunt and to have a little more direction in her life.

On the way, Huilin also meets Kejian and a myriad of other intruiguing characters who become her friends and reveal a little more about her hazy memories. For the majority of the journey, she is never quite certain what her connection to Huicha is, which frustrates her.

The unexpected solution

Through their search, the group discovers the true cause of the disappearance was because of the Calamity's resurgence under a controlled vessel. They learned from Mingwu, the Goddess of Death, that a priest named Qizhen released the Calamity once more to make the upper pantheon listen to his demands. The group attempts to stop him, but they quickly find out that he has become the new vessel for the Calamity and can't be stopped with their forces alone. In short, they get their asses kicked.

To make matters worse, Qizhen rushes off to destroy Huicha as the ultimate hit to the Earthkeeper. However, this reveals that Huicha never disappeared all along due to the unrelenting care and support from her people, because she had cared so much for them in return. When Qizhen tries to vanish her, it doesn't work. This revelation pushes the group to take action and for Huilin to get help from her people to restore the sleeping goddess. With help from the gods and mortals combined, the Calamity is finally laid to rest, and all the missing gods return, including Huicha.

Now with her true form regained, Huicha continues her godly duties and protecting the people of her village, but also spends more time in the city that she has grown to love so much in her time as a mortal.

RELATIONSHIPS
yanzhi-icon.png
Yanzhi
[best friends]

From the very beginning, stone and waterfalls were intertwined. Yanzhi and Huicha were closest friends for thousands of years, through the changing tides of earth and humanity's progression. Even after Yanzhi became the new God of Earth, Huicha continued to visit him and make sure he was okay. Thus, when she went missing, that sparked him to instantly go searching...

Meilang
[friends]

(picrew by トロロ) Huicha was Meilang's friend when she was first formed as the Goddess of Freshwater Life. With their godly duties over freshwater sources, the two are commonly seen spending time together around their domain, gossiping or telling stories of their mundane daily events. Meilang was also the first to notice Huicha's absence and teamed up with Yuchi to start a search for her.

Yuchi
[friends]

(picrew by elenaillustrate) Although Yuchi is a part of the saltwater domain as the God of Oceanic Cuisine, Huicha still found him while exploring the lands and became good friends with him. He is a large reason why she enjoys seafood. He was the one who suggested hosting a search for Huicha when she went missing.

fengan-mugshot-blank.png
Yi Feng'An
[friends/party member]

Feng'An met Huilin randomly at a restaurant one day, where he asked if she knew anything of the Waterfall Goddess's wherabouts. She joined his adventure due to her own curiosity of her missing memories and has gotten along well ever since. Feng'An enjoys her presence, reminiscent of his time with Huicha. He tries to win her favor during banters with Kejian, in which Huilin almost always grants him the win due to his general demeanor and Huilin picking sides based on whatever's funniest. Huilin can't put her finger on it, but there is also just something about Feng'An that is very familiar.

kejian-mugshot-blank.png
Kong Kejian
[friends/party member]

Although Kejian joined the party on the account of his suspicion towards Feng'An being a god, it was Huilin who made him incredibly conflicted if he was right or just going crazy. Originally under the assumption that Huilin was a normal person, Kejian is shocked whenever she does something crazy like eating rocks or not knowing that money is a thing that exists. Regardless, her absurdity is what makes Kejian warm up to her. Huilin also finds Kejian to be incredibly entertaining and funny, as well as have a strange instinct to look after him and make sure he isn't doing anything stupid.

neyo-mugshot.png
Neyo Ciliano
[friends]

The group meets Neyo right as they were visiting Shanjin to research the gods' disappearance. Right off the bat, Huilin gets along exceptionally well with the historian, cracking jokes and sharing stories. Neyo also introduces Huilin to wine, much to Kejian's dismay. Neyo's research helps the group discover the true reason behind the appearances, but even after that, they remain friends. Huicha even visits Neyo's home country of Marenòs regularly to spend time with them.
